Angelina Jolie may be coming off her evil power trip as ‘Maleficent‘ but she’s still going to wielding some pretty massive power. Universal Pictures just picked up rights to a script written by Jolie, and is considering making it her next movie. In addition to writing it, she will star with Brad Pitt and direct. The rumor of a Jolie written-script had been floating around for a few months. ‘By The Sea‘ will give producer credits to both Jolie and Pitt.

Donna Langley, Universal Pictures Chairman, have formed a strong working bond after Langley brought Jolie in to direct ‘Unbroken‘. ‘Unbroken‘ is an adaptation of the book by Laura Hillenbrand about the late Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini. That film will drop on Christmas Day. Jolie has thrown all her efforts into making sure that film is ready by Christmas Day, so it will be next year before any work will begin on ‘By The Sea‘.

Both Langley and Jolie are very pleased with their relationship. Jolie said: “I am very happy to continue my relationship with Donna and the entire Universal team as I finish Unbroken and begin work on By The Sea. They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker.”

Langley commented: “Angelina continues to showcase her extraordinary storytelling abilities in front of and behind the camera and we are thrilled to extend our relationship with her on By the Sea. Angelina and Brad represent two of Hollywood’s brightest talents and we are excited to be a part of their collaboration on this powerful piece.”
