Oct/2017

Hi, Bryan Here….

The good folks over at Google have added a mighty fun search option.  That’s right, you can now play and check your Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon questions.  All you have to do is type in the google search engine “bacon number” then which ever actor you want to look up that is somehow related to Kevin Bacon.  I, of course typed in Bruce Campbell to start, and low and behold the separation was only 2.  Bruce Campbell and Embeth Davidtz were in ‘Army of Darkness’.  Embeth Davidtz and Kevin Bacon were in ‘Murder in the First’. Check Mate!

Film Review: ‘Patriots Day’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 11th, 2017

Dan M., here….

screen-shot-2017-01-11-at-11-31-05-am

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was born in Massachusetts (moved in middle school) love all the sports teams and have close to 40 families members in and around the outskirts of Boston. The only reason I disclose this is because I watched the news closely during this whole ordeal, read two books on the events/survivors, and caught the excellent HBO doc that premiered late last year. I’m not an expert on the event but I feel like I know a bit more than a casual viewer. Most importantly I wasn’t there. I don’t know anyone who was lost. I can’t imagine what it is like to see a tragic event in your life monetized into a film so I am reviewing this strictly as a fan of movies and how it was portrayed as a movie. The politics, timing, and ramifications of turning events like this into films are for others to debate.

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

The Music of Strangers - Yo-Yo Ma

Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble have and continue to learn and make beautiful, inspiring music for sixteen years. The Silk Road Ensemble consists of musicians from various countries like Spain, Iran, China, etc., along the historical Silk Road (the link from China to Venice which was utilized to trade silk among other products). Ma and other musicians (Wu Man, Cristina Pato, Kayhan Kalhor, Kinan Azmeh, etc.) brought us The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble, an insight to cultural musical masters from around the globe. Film Review: ‘Midnight Special’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 17th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

maxresdefault

I’m a complete sucker for the sci-fi genre, and as of very recent years, we’ve seen an uptick in solid, satisfying sci-fi movies of all kinds. However, the original ones from our childhood of the 70s and 80s always come back to us once or twice a year to warm the nostalgic feelings. I’m of course speaking of ‘E.T.‘, ‘Starman‘, ‘Blade Runner‘, and ‘Close Encounters of Third Kind‘. All of those films have made a significant impact on a bunch of people’s creative and personal lives. There have been too few films that have reached this caliber of moviemaking, but Jeff Nichols’s film ‘Midnight Special‘ might just have a spot at the top with these greats, despite a few minor flaws.
