The Bishop Charlotte Reporting….
Seems SyFy is tuning in to holiday craze with some themed original movies this coming season. Too bad only one of them actually sounds “original.” Ah well, we don’t watch SyFy for great filmmaking.
First up, we have Dawn of 28 Days of the Walking…I mean, Zombie Apocalypse. After a zombie plague wipes out 90% of the world’s population, a group of survivors led by Ving Rhames (Dawn of the Dead, and who’s surprised?) tries to make it across the US to a rumored refuge on an island. Maybe they all survive. That would be original. The movie airs October 29th.
At Christmas, we have Snowmageddon. This is probably the one I would call “original.” If you shake a magical snow globe, natural (or rather, unnatural) disasters hit various parts of the world. So it’s sort of like The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, but there’s a rather interesting reason that it’s all happening. I could go for that. It comes out December 10th.
St. Patrick’s Day will bring us Lephrechaun, except the working title is St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun. I’m impressed, yes I am. An evil leprechaun, trapped in an oak tree, is accidentally freed. He then goes out and kills the descendants of those who imprisoned him. Okay, so it’s a little different. And hey, it’s been 18 years since the original. Plus, Warwick Davis has not yet said whether he’ll reprise his role…I mean be in the movie on March 17th.
We don’t expect great things from SyFy, nor should we have to. It’s pure B-movie ridiculousness, and we love it for just that. These will each be their own entertaining night’s fun, and hey, who doesn’t like watching weird random things destroy other weird random things/people/worlds?
