Hi Bryan Here…
Director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four) recently sat down with Clone Web to discuss mainly all things “I Am Number Four”, but some juicy details about the MEGA ultra violent and awesome comic book, Preacher emerged.
Caruso said that the script is finished yet and that casting has not started yet, but they are getting tons of calls from various actors who want roles for the film. He said Chris Pine (Star Trek) wants the role of Jesse Custer, Shia LeBouf (Transformers) wants the role of Arseface, and Alex Pettyfer (I Am Number Four) has expressed interest in The Saint of Killers.
This is what Caruso said when asked how he plans to approach the film:
“It is a crazy road trip and I think what’s amazing and what makes Sony so brave is they can see there’s a real universality to the story when you have good vs. evil. I think when you have these crazy characters, that are not necessarily politically correct, there’s something generally attractive to those characters and those elements. But at the end of the day it really is a story about good vs. evil and the decisions that you make. Whether the demons are going to win or whether the Genesis or the good inside of Jesse is going to be there. So I think there’s a great universality that makes the movie commercial but at the same time it’s one of those that will shock you.”
Writer John August (Charlie’s Angels and several Tim Burton films) is penning the script, but has not finished with it yet. Caruso said about the script:
“It is a lot of story to put into one movie so that’s really the challenge. John August, who’s a great screenwriter, is doing a very good job.”
So with all that said: this film should NOT be made in to only one film. There is too much here. This needs at least two films if not three films. All the story lines, the characters, and events are too much to pour into one film.
Secondly, there is no way Pettyfer should be put anywhere near this film, let alone The Saint of Killers. At one point, Samuel L. Jackson expressed a lot of interest to play the Saint of Killers. Caruso…if you are reading…go with that lead.
This film has major religious themes and some of the most brutal ultra violence and sex ever presented in a book. I am starting to think that Caruso is NOT the right person for the job. I hope I am wrong, but I think he should exit this film and they should hire somebody better.
Your thoughts??
