In true Hollywood fashion, re-making an old classic is always a popular project and ‘Magnificent Seven‘ is no different. The new Seven is based on, of course, the 1960’s film of the same name that starred Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach and James Coburn. Of course, this classic is a remake of yet another film, from iconic director Akira Kurosawa’s ‘Seven Samurai‘ from 1954.

The story is a classic, a poor, oppressed village, town, hamlet-whatever the population, they’re being attacked by a group of outlaws or bandits and hire protection. Protection in the form of unemployed, gunslingers or samurai to act as guards. It’s a good story that takes well to any adaptation thrown its way, I mean look at Disney’s ‘A Bug’s Life‘ and tell me that’s not true!

The newest Seven is featuring some big talent that has worked exceptionally well in the past together, Ethan Hawke and Denzel Washington. The duo, of course hit the streets of LA in ‘Training Day‘ back in 2001 which led both actors to receiving Oscar nominations with Washington taking home the little golden man. Hawke and Washington are boarding the remake with Day director Antoine Fuqua helming the western re-boot. If this wasn’t big enough, already, Chris Pratt and Haley Bennett have signed on, as well. The script has been re-worked by John Lee Hancock where he perfected a version by ‘True Detective‘ creator Nic Pizzolatto. This film will be one to watch when it’s released with likely Oscar buzz surrounding it.
