Comic book fans, Dark Knight collectors, and DC fans everywhere can now speculate on how the young Bruce Wayne is going to pan out now that he and Selena Kyle have been cast for the Batman prequel series ‘Gotham‘ for Fox. Thirteen-year-old David Mazouz, co-star with Kiefer Sutherland in 2012’s ‘Touch‘, has been confirmed for the role of the young- eccentric-millionaire-orphan Bruce Wayne. Camren Bicondova, a newcomer to the film industry, is set to play the role of the highly skilled sticky-pawed Catwoman, a.k.a. Selena Kyle.

‘Gotham‘ is cashing in on the superhero craze with an origin series that shows us the early interactions of the boy who would be Batman, Bruce Wayne, and his coping with his parents murder that leaves him an orphaned millionaire to be raised by the protective hands of Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) and a fresh-faced, idealistic Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie). Included in this re-telling are the villains that feature prominently in Wayne’s adult-life from Catwoman Selena Kyle, to Penguin Oswald Cobblepot.

Mazouz and Bicondova come on board a cast that already includes Sean Pertwee (‘Elementary‘) as Alfred Pennyworth, Ben McKenzie (‘Southland‘) as Detective James Gordon. Jada Pinkett Smith, Erin Richards, Zabryna Guevara, Robin Taylor and Donal Logue are some of the actors that have been brought together by director Danny Cannon’s (‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘) vision of the building blocks of Gotham City as we know it. It will be interesting to see the backstory of Gotham City and how the lives of all involved are intertwined from an early point in time. We should see this series premiering on Fox for the fall lineup. I, for one, am eager to see how the show pans out. I’ve always had a strong fascination with all-things Batman from my first table top memory game when I was five years old. I’d like to point out that I just spent 30 minutes searching for a picture of that game and can’t find it anywhere. Maybe I should have hung onto that game more tightly.
