I love bad movies.  That is an extremely oversimplified, yet usual response I give to people when discussing film and cinema in conversation.  It is true though, but if you want to have a conversation about what I love we are really going to need to discuss it much further.  I think the best place to start is really defining what a “bad” movie is.  When I am referring to a bad movie, I am talking about those movies that are usually made with the best of intentions, but due to a lack of knowledge, talent, abilities, etc. they usually fall short of their intentions.  Sometimes these movies are mishandled from the very beginning; sometimes they are well done but just too bizarre to hit the mark.

We will occasionally discuss the technical aspects of moviemaking, including writing, editing, sound mixing, music and other similar items.  I am not an expert in the movie making process nor do I have any formal training in film, and there will be absolutely no expertise that can be gleaned from these discussions.  The movies to be discussed don’t require technical expertise as they usually don’t have any experts in their creation.

At this point, I would like to make a distinction.  There are plenty of bad movies out there that I would not call a “bad” movie for the purposes of our discussion.  I’m thinking of Michael Bay right now.  These are not the films I am talking about.  My bad movies are those that may not have been written or executed well, but were made with passion.  My bad movies are those that you want to watch with a crowd, and you can have a conversation with those around you to make sure they just saw what you saw or heard what you heard.

It takes a lot of work and people to make a movie, which will shock the conscious when contemplating some of the movies that will be discussed.  These discussions will not be “hatchet” jobs though, as I believe that they were made with some sort of passion, and I have passion about watching them.  We will be poking fun of these movies, but it is all out of love.  I hope that those that follow along will join in the discussion, and I also hope that some of my passion and love for these movies will pass on to you as well.
