Hey guys, Jana here,
Die-hard fans of Cassandra Clare’s ‘The Mortal Instruments‘ book series should be excited for the latest announcement from ABC Family! The network has ordered ‘Shadowhunters‘ a series based on the uber-successful, YA novels.
This is ABC Family’s first foray into a scripted series based on a book saga. Clare gave a statement “I’m excited to see ABC Family bring the world of the ‘Shadowhunters’ to life. As a huge fan of longform television drama, I can’t wait to see the story unfold and for the fans to have more time with the world and the characters.”
‘Shadowhunters‘ will follow 18 year old Clary Fray, who discovers on her birthday that she is more than she grew up thinking and that she is from a line of Shadowhunters, a cross between human and angel with one purpose, to hunt demons. A family crisis tosses Clary into a crash course on who else inhabits the world she was sure humans were alone in and vampires, werewolves, warlocks and faeries are a lot closer than she would have believed.
“‘Shadowhunters’ is a big epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Hunger Games,’ and ‘Twilight’ franchises,” said ABC Family president Tom Ascheim. “A New York Times bestseller for 122-consecutive weeks, with over 35 million copies in print worldwide, ‘Shadowhunters’ is the perfect story to share with our audience.” ‘The Mortal Instruments City of Bones‘ saw itself made into a feature film that starred Lily Collins as Clary and Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace. The series will be produced by Constantin Film, with Ed Decter (‘There’s Something About Mary‘, ‘In Plain Sight‘) serving as exec producer and showrunner. We have no casting information as yet but the series is set to go into production this May in Toronto.
