The director who brought us ‘Gravity‘, ‘Children of Men‘, ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien‘, and the best Harry Potter film is now playing with the horror genre, which just excites me to the end of the Earth. You mean to tell me, that Alfonso Cuarón who has terrified us with outer space and women not having babies will take the horror genre on head first? I’m so in.
What we know about the project so far isn’t much, but we can give you a little bit from what we know, according to Deadline. The project is being pitched as a TV series or TV movie miniseries with no major network signed on yet. It could be HBO, AMC, Netflix, or something else. The story will follow the origins of a cult and that’s basically all we know at this point, which is fine by me.
Casey Affleck (Ben Affleck’s brother) will star in the project with Alfonso Cuarón set to write, produce, and direct. I’m so intrigued by all of this right now, because Alfonso Cuarón hasn’t done much since ‘Gravity‘, besides his new film coming out soon, called ‘Roma‘, which is about a middle class family in the 1970’s in Mexico. I’m sure it will be amazing as all of his movies are. Then you have Casey Affleck coming off an Oscar win and we all know he has the chops to be in a horror movie about a cult, so that’s a good duo right there for sure.
I’m curious as to what the cult will be about though. Will it be a satanic blood orgy cult, or will it be something like Heaven’s Gate, or even something like Jonestown that has everyone drinking their favorite sugary drink. Whatever it may be, I’m sure it will be original and unnerving to the point where I will be scared to sleep with the lights off. I will update you more when there is more information available.
