Syfy is amping up their superhero game with a pilot order for a project that’s been in the works for quite a while, ‘Krypton‘. David Goyer has been working on the series for more than a year and a half. He and new exec producer/showrunner Damian Kindler (‘Sleepy Hollow‘) have been busy doing rewrites on the pilot teleplay which was penned by Goyer and Ian Goldberg.

Director Colm McCarthy, known for his extensive work in TV, most notably ‘Peaky Blinders‘, has been set to direct, at least the pilot, for Warner Horizon TV.

Goyer is steeped in the superhero world balls deep being the writer of choice when it comes to anything comic book related. His resume is beyond impressive with the ‘Blade‘ movies, the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance‘, ‘Man of Steel‘, the ‘Constantine‘ series, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ and ‘The Sandman‘. Goyer will exec produce via his Phantom Four banner.

Warner Bros. TV backed an incredibly successful prequel story on the Man of Steel, already with ‘Smallville‘ which ran for an awesome 10 seasons, I was a giant fan. This prequel series is based on characters brought to life by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Where ‘Smallville‘ focused on the teenage life of Clark Kent, ‘Krypton‘ will go back two generations before the planet was destroyed. We will meet Superman’s grandfather during a time where the House of El was ostracized and shamed, while he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his world from chaos. Either way, it will be exciting to see the world of Krypton as an active and functioning world instead of being spoken of in the past tense.
