We’ve known for a few months that ‘Hairspray LIVE‘ was going to be next up for NBC, and two days ago we found out who two of the cast will be with Harvey Fierstein and Jennifer Hudson and you can read about their roles here , but we have two more names to add to the rapidly growing list – Martin Short and Derek Hough.

Comedian Short joins the cast as Wilbur, husband to Edna Turnblad (played by the brilliant Fierstein) and father to main character Tracy. Hough will play Corny Collins, the host of a local TV series ‘The Corny Collins Show’. The actors join the previously announced cast member Fierstein and Jennifer Hudson, who will play Motormouth Maybelle.

The musical is adapted from the Broadway smash, ‘Hairspray‘, which itself was a variation on the original Jon Waters movie from 1988. The story follows Tracy Turnblad, a teenager in 1962 Baltimore whose dream is to appear on ‘The Corny Collins Show’, a dream once achieved leads to a bigger goal of ending segregation of the show.

I’m sure more casting decisions will be announced quickly and we’ll bring you all the updates. ‘Hairspray Live!‘ isn’t set to air until December 7 of this year.
