Jana B. here,
The silver screen adaptation of the Marcus Sakey novel ‘Brilliance‘ is courting Will Smith to star. This film was already on a ‘to watch’ list when Julius Onah (‘The Girl Is In Trouble‘), the Nigerian-born up and comer, was on tap to direct, but if Smith signs on to act, it will widen the number of people who will be viewing.
From Marcus Sakay’s website – ” In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called “brilliants,” and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.”
Smith still coming off the bad reviews of ‘After Earth‘, which has to sting a bit considering it was his original idea and he directed his son, personally during filming and got M. Night Shyamalan to direct. Shyamalan took the project on, even though it is the first time in 20 years he has taken to directing a screenplay he did not write. Smith’s decision against reprising his role in ‘Independence Day 2‘ seems a solid career move at this juncture. Doing something fresh and original with a new director could be the fresh breath of air needed to keep Smith going, especially if he plans on doing a ‘Hancock 2‘ which has been announced.
However, Smith is doing some things right the way only he can. With a stellar spot as Jimmy Fallon’s first ‘Tonight Show‘ guest this week, including an awesome ‘Evolution of Hip Hop Dancing’ with Fallon, you can see it below. Add to that his going back to the success well that is the ‘Bad Boys’ franchise with the announcement of a third installment. This girl is over excited for another shot to ogle Detective Mike Lowry on the big screen!
