Bonus Episode With Mike P. Nelson on Beware Boiúna

Out in the slithering snake-infested jungles of horror podcasts, where every third microphone appears to be broadcasting from a basement illuminated by Halloween lights and unresolved childhood fears, there exists the delightfully unhinged institution known as My Bloody Podcast. It occupies that rare cultural space between a graduate seminar on horror cinema and three friends arguing in a video store that no longer exists.

There are filmmakers you interview once, filmmakers you interview twice, and then there’s Mike P. Nelson, who has now appeared on My Bloody Podcast ten times, which officially makes him less of a guest and more of a recurring character we apparently refuse to write out. On this bonus episode, Bryan Kluger and Marc Ciafardini welcome Mike back to discuss his brand-new Lionsgate horror film, Beware Boiúna, which is a movie about a gargantuan, man-eating snake in Colombia, because apparently, regular-sized problems were no longer terrifying enough.

We get into the making of the film, the beauty and terror of snakes, practical effects, horror, the wildness of shooting in Colombia, and what the movie is really hiding beneath its enormous, scaly underbelly. Mike, as usual, brings stories, insight, and just enough chaos to remind us why we keep inviting him back. It’s always a pleasure having Mike on the show. Now go see Beware Boiúna, and, for the love of God, check the pool for snakes.

You can find My Bloody Podcast wherever podcasts lurk. It’s a reminder that great horror can be transcendent, bad horror can be fascinating, and arguing about both is often more entertaining than the movie itself.
