Bonus Episode with Aaron Eckhart and John Stalberg Jr

Out in the phone booths of podcasts where death stalks the airwaves, somewhere between a cursed VHS tape and the ghost of a Blockbuster Video, lurks My Bloody Podcast, a horror show equal parts terrifying and delightfully unhinged. Imagine if The Criterion Channel got possessed by a demon, or if your horror-obsessed friend from high school actually started a podcast with their equally disturbed and well-read pals. That’s the vibe.

Hosted by Bryan Kluger, a man who speaks fluent Freddy and Jason with the academic rigor of a TED Talk on gore, My Bloody Podcast is a weekly séance-slash-horror-symposium where no monster is left behind and no bloody boil goes unpopped. Preston Barta joins him like a vampire with a PhD, dissecting dread with surgical precision, while Chelsea Nicole; cultural critic, scream queen, and walking IMDb of feminist horror, makes sure every terrifying nuance gets its due.

This week on a very special My Bloody Podcast, a BONUS EPISODE, you know the kind that feels like finding an extra fry at the bottom of the takeout bag. Well, we sink our teeth into Muzzle: City of Wolves. It’s a film that wanders confidently into the John Wick Cinematic State of Mind that follows a former cop, a loyal dog, a vengeful cartel, and the sort of urban carnage that suggests the city’s zoning board has long since given up.

Joining us for this canine-and-carbine opera are two men who know their way around both a frame and a fight. Aaron Eckhart, the square-jawed statesman of The Dark Knight, Erin Brockovich, and Thank You for Smoking, and the film’s director John Stalberg Jr., who has quietly been constructing a small universe of his own with the Muzzle franchise.

We talk about the making of the movie, and, more importantly, the Herculean labor of making any movie. You know, how a single production day can feel like a decade spent negotiating with gravity, weather, budgets, and the universal law that says cables will always tangle when you’re in a hurry. Stalberg gives us the on-set details that include filming on location without permission, wihle Eckhart gives us the quiet truths, including an unexpectedly intimate moment he once shared with the late Heath Ledger on the set of The Dark Knight. You can practically hear the whole show fall still. We all got chills.

It’s an episode about dogs, about movies, and about the strange fraternity formed by anyone who has ever tried to tell a story while the universe gently but insistently pushes back. Listen wherever you get your podcasts, or anywhere that welcomes good conversation, better anecdotes, and at least one great dog.
