Hey guys, Jana here,
Steve McQueen (‘12 Years A Slave‘) is casting ‘Widows‘ for New Regency, and has a great star attached to begin with – Viola Davis. The project is based on the 1983 British miniseries based on a caper that went seven shades of wrong.
The film is based on the premise of three armed robbers who die when the security van they’re robbing catches fire. Their widows find their husbands’ plans for the robbery and decide to stage it themselves with the help of a fourth woman. One woman discovers her husband didn’t die in the fire and he wants his money back.
So far I’m seeing a fantastic director, an amazing story, an Oscar-winning actress, it’s going to take a super-star screenwriter to bring the project home and none other than ‘Gone Girl‘ screenwriter, Gillian Flynn, is on board to write the screenplay. McQueen’s production team from ‘Shame‘, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films, are back to produce and co-finance with New Regency.
