Hey guys, Jana here,
It’s hard to believe, but ‘Carrie‘ is celebrating 40 years in an epic way. What’s a more apropos way to mark 40 years of a prom-related movie, than with a 1970s prom-themed fan event and fundraiser that combines a screening with a reunion of the cast and crew?!
The fundraiser evening will be presented by weSPARK Theatre at Ace Hotel and Scream Factory and it’s all taking place Friday, October 14 in Los Angeles. ‘Carrie‘ marks the very first in what has become a long line of Stephen King adaptations and fans of his films owe a very big thank you to Brian De Palma for kicking off an excellent trend.
weSPARK Cancer Support Center will be the beneficiary of the event which is in need of critical funds and ‘Carrie’s Nancy Allen is the Executive Director, and is a natural fit. Fans are offered a few ticket options and encouraged to dress in their snazziest 1970s formal wear or come as their favorite character from the film. There will be a special photo booth where you can win a Best Dressed ‘Carrie’ character costume contest.
The story of Carrie White, a girl brought up, almost in isolation, by her domineering, religious mother Margaret. After an embarrassing incident in the showers causes her classmates to tease Carrie ruthlessly, her teacher Miss Collins disciplines them severely. However, one of the students feels sorry for what she did and asks her boyfriend to take Carrie to the senior prom instead of her. Determined to have revenge, the other students hatch a plot against Carrie, which turns horribly wrong when Carrie’s strange mental powers are unleashed during the school prom.
The film starred Sissy Spacek , Piper Laurie, John Travolta, Nancy Allen, Wiliam Katt and Amy Irving. The picture gained two Academy Award nods for Spaceck and Laurie. Laurie gained a Golden Globe nomination as well. The reunion includes Piper Laurie, Nancy Allen, William Katt, P.J. Soles, editor Paul Hirsch and casting director Harriett B. Helberg. They will all take part in a live Q&A moderated by Bryan Fuller (‘Hannibal‘, ‘Pushing Daisies‘, ‘American Gods‘).
There are three different ticket prices and all will benefit weSPARK’s cancer support programs.
