In a move that will surely have people claiming that Hollywood is trying to ruin their childhood, and why can’t they just leave it alone, along with my favorite – are there no original ideas anymore? Comes the announcement that Warner Bros. is revamping ‘Ocean’s Eleven‘ with ‘Ocean’s Ocho‘. Of course there’s a twist – the cast consists of women. If you’re claiming the George Clooney led ‘Ocean’s Eleven‘ from 2001 doesn’t deserve a reboot, just remember that film was a reboot of the ‘Ocean’s 11’ ensemble original from 1960. Frank Sinatra was Danny Ocean and was surrounded by his rat pack buddies. So go ahead, take a few minutes and get the whining out of your system, I can wait.

Now that the shock of the moment has worn off, let’s get into who is on board to star in the reboot. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett were the first to be attached to the project directed by Gary Ross who is behind the recent ‘Free State of Jones‘. As of now, deals are so close to being sealed with Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Nora Lum a.k.a. Awkwafina. If you’re counting along, you’ve noticed that there are only 7 names on the roster. No idea who will fit into that eighth open slot, but it could be anyone, I keep hoping Julia Roberts might make a cameo considering she was in the most recent reboot. Come to think of that, maybe we’ll get cameo appearances from several of the actors that appeared in those projects.

Steven Soderbergh and Ross wrote the script with Olivia Milch. Soderbergh directed the latest film and the sequels and is staying on as producer.
