Hey guys, Jana here,
***UPDATE***
It was reported yesterday that Will Ferrell was going to star as President Ronald Reagan in a new film. That’s not the case today. The ‘Reagan’ script was highly considered by the actor, but has passed on it . I wonder if this will delay the film even more. So if not Reagan, maybe Ferrell will do a big budget Bush film soon.
***END OF UPDATE**
Will Ferrell has signed on for ‘Reagan‘, this one comes from the Black List. The Black List is a yearly listing of the top unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood. There is not a director attached, but Ferrell will produce through his Gary Sanchez Productions shingle.
Ferrell is set to play the former commander in chief, while we know he has it in him to play a straight role, this won’t be one. The storyline takes off at the former president’s second term where he falls into dementia and am ambitious intern is left with the daunting task of convincing him he is an actor playing the president in a movie.
It sounds like it can kind of stand alongside another presidential folly film, ‘Dave’ starring Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver from 1993, that one had an actor playing the president, the only difference being he knew he was not the president. Still, a fun flick that I’d highly recommend checking out.
Ferrell is going right back into his wheelhouse with this flick, as this isn’t the first time he’s portrayed a president. He spent years perfecting a President Bush persona that ran the gamut on ‘Saturday Night Live‘ for years and it ultimately ended up in a rather unlikely place – Broadway, with ‘You’re Welcome America‘.
The script was running high on popularity when it’s placement on the List became known and a live read was done in March starring Lena Dunham and John Cho. A director is currently being sought and then there will be some gasoline thrown on this fire of a project.
