Hey guys, Jana here,
Emmy Award nominated director Garth Davis is tackling some heavy subject matter in his next feature, ‘Mary Magdalene‘, and he’s already got his leading lady cast in Rooney Mara. Mara and Davis have worked together recently in his feature film ‘Lion‘ which is awaiting release in November of this year.
In a film about Mary Magdalene there is one character the flick has to have and it’s Jesus. In that arena, Joaquin Phoenix is being considered as a leading contender. Phoenix has been in the TV and film scene since the early 1980’s and made a name for himself in dozens of roles, among them his Oscar nominated turns in ‘Gladiator‘, ‘Walk the Line‘, and ‘The Master‘.
Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett wrote the script which has been described as “an authentic and humanistic portrait of one of the most enigmatic and misunderstood spiritual figures in history.”
The project is teaming up multiple production companies in various capacities, among them See-Saw Films, Universal Pictures Intl. Productions, The Weinstein Company and Transmission Films.
