Hey guys, Jana here,
Sci-fi fans the world over have been awaiting Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson’s (‘The Last Days On Mars‘) ‘The Leviathan‘ and has gathered two more minds to the creative team with solid sci-fi backgrounds, Neill Blomkamp and Simon Kinberg.
Kinberg has ties to the superhero world with ‘X-Men: First Class‘ and the upcoming ‘Deadpool‘ and ‘Gambit‘, and will come onboard as producer. While Blomkamp has ties as writer and director to ‘Chappie‘ and ‘Elysium‘ and is joining the team as exec producer. There were tons of big name producers that have bent Robinson’s ear pitching for the project but none of them stood a chance once Kinberg made his decision to come aboard.
Robinson released a 3 1/2 minute concept video for ‘The Leviathan‘ last week and it has been viewed millions of times, the fan interest is clearly palpable at this point, which is a good thing because Fox has first dibs on the project thanks to Kinberg’s contract with the company, and fan interest will make it a no-brainer to pick up. The storyline is an intriguing look at the early 22nd century where mankind has colonized the many worlds in a time where travel is faster than the speed of light. It’s been made possible only by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species ever seen. The hunt isn’t for excitement and is done mostly by involuntary laborers.
