Hi Bryan Here…
The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition mega Set has been officially announced for a June 28th release date. We previously reported on this story HERE. Tons of very cool extras and features have been added to this release.
Warner Home Video has officially announced The lord of the Rings Extended Box Set. There are going to be 15 discs in this monster of a set.
If you are like me, then you already own the extended editions of Lord of the Rings on DVD. And if you remember, the films are split onto two discs. I know many of you were hoping at some point that these bluray releases would have each whole film on a single bluray disc. You might be a little disappointed then, because the films will be split up again on two separate discs.
But let me tell you why this is an AWESOME decision and the right thing to do.
By being split up on two discs, the film’s audio and video presentation will be 1000 times better. The films won’t be as compressed as if they were on one disc which would make the quality of the audio and video less. By splitting each film on two discs will let the films flow easier and have more room to present you with the BEST quality ever seen on bluray. I am always a fan and for the best quality, even if it means splitting the discs.
Now let us get into the good stuff.
The films have been given a new transfer which will be from the original 2K files and will have English 6.1 DTS HD Audio.
Extras from the previous extended editions of the DVD will all be transferred to these bluray releases and as well the amazing documentaries of the behind the scenes of the making of Lord of the Rings by Costa Botes.
So let us recap:
2 bluray discs of the actual film.
2 DVD discs of all the extras of the film.
1 DVD of the behind the scenes documentary of the film by Costa Botes.
That comes to 5 discs per film for three films which comes out to…say it with me….15 discs.
No word on digital copies yet, but there are rumors that there will be some codes to go to Warner’s website to download the extended versions of the film.
Also there will be an HD trailer for a new Lord of the Rings game coming sometime in 2011 called “Lord of the Rings: War of The North: The Untold Story.”
Not to mention, all three films will come with its own booklet detailing the information on all the discs.
I am very excited for this release and think that they have done the right thing by making this the best presentation of these films yet. You won’t hear me complain about a choice that results in better quality in audio or video.
