Kimbrell Here…
I’m sad to report that as of today, February 2, 2011, The White Stripes have decided to call it quits.
The reasons for the amicable split are not entirely clear, but according to the Third Man Records website, “the reason is not due to artistic differences, or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health”.
Despite whatever reason the band came to in regards to the split, the band hopes the news is not ‘met with sorrow’. Even though there will be no future recordings by the band, fans can still look forward to unreleased studio and live records via the band’s Third Man Vault subscription service and other outlets.
The last 13+ years the band has been together have gone by in a blur, I will admit. In that short amount of time, The White Stripes have ushered in a new era of rock n’ roll, recorded some incredible records, and I’m sure have inspired many garage acts to follow in their place.
As John Lennon once said about the break-up of The Beatles, ‘it’s not the end of the world. You’ve got all the records if you still want to reminisce.’ We all hear you there, John. Instead of mourning the loss of another great rock band, let us instead celebrate the art they did give us, and hope there is a chance for a reunion somewhere down the road. Besides, as busy as Jack White is, this isn’t the last we will ever hear from him…or Meg.
This does suck, but it has been quite a bit of time since they have collaborated together on new music. Plus Jack is busy with about four other musicians plus Third Man. I think it was going to happen no matter what. Maybe one day a decade from now there will be a reunion. Or at least a sex tape.
This is now the worst Groundhog Day ever…
We are lucky that Jack has so many other projects. The specialness of the band is preserved through the albums, and it is awesome that it’s over before it started to stink.
I have the new Wanda Jackson album on it’s way to me, so there is still work being done. Yes you turkeys… that is the same Wanda Jackson that is the “Queen of Rockabilly” and toured with Elvis.
Keep your chin up everyone…
I have the new Wanda Jackson LP and it is killer. WELL worth the wait. Look forward to seeing her in Dallas later this month. Maybe she’ll sign my record…I don’t think we’ll have much to worry about in regards to Mr. White.
Yeah Wanda and Jack were so amazing on Conan’s show last week. She is a badass. Definitely need to get some tickets for the show here in Dallas. But yes, the white stripes will be forever great, and be remembered not only as a great band, but as a band that put out their full 120% on every album, making them a band that has a flawless record of being EPIC.
