Hey guys, Jana here,

We all know the movies based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien (‘The Lord of the Rings‘ and ‘The Hobbit‘ trilogies), but not many knew the man. Chernin Entertainment for Fox Searchlight have set Dome Karukoski at the task of directing a biopic of the author. Nicholas Hoult is the front-runner to take on the part of the gifted author.

Hoult has certainly come a long way from the role I spied him in first, 2002’s ‘About A Boy‘, where he played opposite Hugh Grant and took on the role of awkward adolescent better than most. Imagine my surprise when I re-discovered the hottie in ‘Clash of the Titans‘! Anyhow, Hoult is in talks, very EARLY talks, to take on the part of Tolkien. Although we can’t discount how much Ryan Gosling actually resembles a younger Tolkien.

The script was penned by David Gleeson (‘The Front Line‘) and Stephen Beresford (‘Pride‘) and begins with the orphaned author at school, finding his place among new friends who will stir and inspire the budding writer. All of his life experiences leading up to the outbreak of World War I where he and his friends will go separate ways will one day become the Middle-Earth novels.

If given this part, this will make the second famous author he’s represented on-screen. He will appear in ‘Rebel in the Rye‘ as J.D. Salinger in September of this year.
