Miles Davis is a jazz icon, a name known even by those who don’t listen to the musical genre. Now, director George Tillman Jr. (Notorious) has been tapped to bring his story to the big screen.
Gregory Davis, Miles’ oldest son, is partnered with producers Nick Davis Raynes (The Business of Charity) and Ged Dickinson to chronicle the inspiring story. The script itself is loosely based on Dark Magus: The Jekyll and Hyde Life of Miles Davis, written by Gregory Davis himself.
“In much the same way that Walk the Line and Ray were able to open the world’s eyes to the life stories of Johnny Cash and Ray Charles, we want to make a film that will do the same justice for Miles Davis,” says Rayne.
No word on casting yet, but Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, and John Coltrane are essential to the story along with many other supporting roles like Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Michael Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sugar-Ray Robinson.
Gregory says that he trusts Rayne and Dickinson to “tell the true story of my father – without any sugar-coating.”
