Here’s another one of our infamous Re-Casting segments. This time, we re-cast the amazing and iconic 90s film ‘Empire Records‘. Not only do we re-cast virtually every character in this movie, but we also select songs and musicians that would be best suited for a remake today. This was fun as hell to cast. Enjoy the show….

Film Review: ‘Don Jon’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

don-jon09

Here is Joseph Gordon Levitt’s debut as a writer/director/actor all in the same film, which is called ‘Don Jon‘. This movie at its core shows a simple man’s transition from an unlikable Guido sex-obsessed douche-bag into somewhat more a friendlier human being who is capable of having meaningful relationships. Levitt’s directorial and writing debut is quite fun and a tad-bit meaningful, but is often quite repetitive as we go along with his character, who himself can’t seem to stop doing several habits. Levitt and his love interest Scarlett Johansson should draw a decent crowd at theaters, considering the adult subject matter, but I see this making more money on home video than in theaters.

Film Review: ‘Rush’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

NWS_20130904_New_006_28803830_I3

It’s no doubt that Ron Howard makes great films. His movies have won numerous awards and have starred the biggest names in the business at one point or another. That being said, I would go on to say that Howard’s films tend to be forgettable after the first year or so and begin to collect dust in people’s movie collections. There are a few exceptions with ‘Apollo 13‘, ‘Willow‘, and ‘Parenthood‘, but the rest of his resume tends to be forgotten and not watched as much as people claimed when it first came out. Unfortunately, this is the case with his new movie, ‘Rush‘. People will love it at first, but nobody will mention it next year.

Warner Bros. and DC Comics have teamed up yet again. This time it’s for a television show based on the comic book ‘Constantine‘. If you remember, a few years ago, Keanu Reeves starred as John Constantine, based on the same book. This particular series will be headed to NBC with David S. James Gandolfini left an emptiness in his wake, especially for those of us that loved him on HBO. His legacy lives on with HBO, as befits Gandolfini’s biggest and arguably best starring role in, the numerous award winning, ‘The Sopranos‘.  Gandolfini played a role in the ‘Criminal Justice‘ pilot, that will be filled by none other than, Oscar winner, Robert De Niro. The actor who is no stranger to playing mafia characters has stepped into the vacated too soon size 12’s James Gandolfini left behind after his untimely death in June of this year. Tom Green Has A New Talk Show Again!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

 TomGreen1

AXS TV has been one of my favorite go to channels for in depth concert footage, MMA, comedy and even Dan Rather. They’re adding a new one hour weekly talk show hosted by none other than the pioneer of the unpredictable, himself, Tom Green. “Tom Green Live” will premiere Thursday, October 3 in the 9 PM ET time slot.

Funnyman Richard Belzer is booked as his first guest. Belzer has a long resume’ that features a 5 year stint where the jokester perfected his funny bone as a regular for ‘Saturday Night Live‘.

The show will include live video internet calls from viewers. AXS TV founding partner Mark Cuban is credited with saying “Live television works best with an element of danger and when results are unpredictable. Throughout his career, Tom has embodied the skill-set you look for in a live performer. Adding the unedited viewer element means that anything can happen. Tom Green Live was exactly the type of show I envisioned when we decided to develop the network as a vehicle to deliver the best in live entertainment.”

Tom’s antics first gained popularity with the, then, groundbreaking ‘Tom Green Show‘ on MTV. No word, yet, on if we can expect to see him jump a skateboard through a ring of fire on TV again. But one can hope.

Kevin Smith Will Make ‘Tusk’ Before ‘Clerks III’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 25th, 2013

Jana B., Here….

kevin_smith_spoilers_large

Kevin Smith. I don’t hide my unabashed love for him and lust for Silent Bob’s counterpart, Jay, or has we know him, Jason Mewes. Felt like I was just living out the fantasy in ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back‘ when he first saw Justice. OK, back to the reason I’m writing this. There is news on the ‘Clerks III‘ front! I seriously did a fist pump like I was channeling my inner Judd Nelson when I learned this. You know how Kevin Smith tells us that we’re going to have a new Clerks movie, but he has to do this one project first? This is one of those projects. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the next film he’s going to make is titled ‘Tusk‘. Smith says it will be an “Ivory bridge” to ‘Clerks III’. If that’s not some Oscar Wilde like word play, I don’t know what is. Yeah, gratuitous insertion of ‘Clerks II‘ reference. Smith says it will make financing the sequel easier and also to work out some of the cobwebs from not having directed a film since 2011’s ‘Red State‘. We can all agree we want Smith at the top of his game for what will probably be the final Clerks installment.

You know how certain films come along and make you feel deeply connected to the lead, or even the antagonist? They touch you deeply and form who you are as a person. It always comes to you in times of need…this is starting to sound too much like ‘Let It Be’ by The Beatles. I’ll jump ahead. ‘Searching for Bobby Fischer‘ never inspired any of that in me. I get that he was a Chess prodigy Grand Master. I know it’s all about his struggle to get there. If it’s an ultimate struggle at least give me video games…I could relate to ‘The Wizard‘ all day long. Chess just taught me to taunt obscenities and throw pieces when I got beat…which is all the time. I guess my point is this – ‘Searching For Bobby Fischer‘ wasn’t great to me, so why make a new one? However, Hollywood doesn’t listen to me or there would be a lot of Christina Hendricks showing up in TV and movies… naked.

Finally. I’m surprised it’s taken this long for there to be a spoof made from ‘The Fast and Furious‘.  The writer-director team of Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg who have both brought us’Vampires Suck‘, (as if ‘Twilight‘ didn’t already show us that), and ‘Meet The Spartans‘. Personally, they ought to be grateful King Leonidas isn’t around to kick their arses all over the place for that one, but I digress. The Top 20 Vampire Movies Of All Time!!!

I love making lists. Grocery lists. Bucket lists. Holiday lists. Favorite movie lists. Favorite VAMPIRE movie lists. I bet that got your attention, didn’t it? This is MY list of the top 20 Vampire movies ever made. Why did I point out that it was MY list? Easy. So you read this knowing it wasn’t an Academy vote that got a movie on this list. No one paid me to promote their movie. However, I’m NOT against this, just to be clear. Why spend time putting movies in a list? Maybe it satisfies some Freudian lack of paternal affection I suffered as a child. But the real answer is, “Why wouldn’t I make a list as awesome as this?”

Film Review: ‘Prisoners’!!

Hi, Bryan Here…

jackman-prisoners-jpg_163338

Director Denis Villeneuve has given us one hell of a terrifying and highly suspenseful ride with his first major Hollywood film, ‘Prisoners‘. With one amazing cast, excellent script, and terrifying story, I expect Warner Bros. to make a decent buck off this flick. This is a story that is all too familiar in our lives, where it seems like almost every week, we hear a news story of a child in our neighborhood, town, or city that has gone missing. The reactions and damage this causes their families seems all to real and scary. And with ‘Prisoners‘, the violence and suspense never lets up.

‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series Headed To AMC!!!

Can there be such a thing as too much of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead‘? I think….it’s possible. Gale Anne Hurd is the standout among the three having learned directly at Roger Corman’s side. Director Luc Besson must just love Martin Scorsese’sGoodfellas‘. I’m sure if there was a film that showed the life of  Henry Hill one he was in the witness protection program, this would have been that film. ‘The Family‘ is a dark and ultra-violent comedy where a former family working for the New York mafia is in the witness protection program after testifying on some big bosses. I was cautiously optimistic when I went to the screening of ‘Insidious 2‘. I’m a huge fan of Patrick Wilson as an actor and come on ladies, he’s pretty easy on the eyes but from the previews, the movie looked pretty cheesy. HEROES OF COSPLAY – GROUP CATEGORY

by Justin Cline on Sep 12th, 2013

logoFor those of you not already in the know, Heroes of Cosplay is a “reality” show currently airing on the Syfy network. Next week, the program will be airing its season finale, the second of two episodes filmed at Kansas City’s Planet Comicon. In this contest, the participants will be asked to compete as teams. Three of the show’s stars will be portraying characters from American McGee’s Alice, while yet another three will be recreating characters from How To Train Your Dragon.

While I’m certain their costumes and skits will be entertaining, I’m also of the opinion that the entire cast needs a bonding experience. To that end, I would like to suggest that they enter a group competition in the future as the characters from Pixar’s Toy Story movies.

And I like to think it would go a little something like this. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi, Bryan Here….

3176173-1748009911-hp.jp

You thought the world of ‘Harry Potter‘ was over, didn’t you? Well of course it isn’t. Those books and movies are too popular and make tons of money for them to call it quits. Hell, there is even a theme park now dedicated to the world of ‘Harry Potter‘. Not too mention all of the spin-off books from the series. And that’s where our story comes into play. Warner Bros. and author J.K. Rowling are putting a brand new epic film series together based on the ‘Harry Potter‘ world.

FX Wants An ‘American Psycho’ Series!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 11th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

 american_psycho-1

Looks like Patrick Bateman will still be returning videotapes, as FX wants the ‘American Psycho‘ storyline and characters for a tv series. Allison Shearmur and Stefan Jaworski are behind the project. ‘American Psycho‘ was first a novel written by Brett Easton Ellis, and is still considered one of the best books of the decade. In 2000, a movie was made based on the book that starred Christian Bale as Bateman, a successful CEO in 1980’s New York who moonlights as a sadistic serial killer.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Revenge-Nerds-movie-02

In this 7th episode segment, we Re-cast the popular 80’s film ‘Revenge of the Nerds‘. This was a hell of a film back in the 80s and was extremely difficult to recast now. I think we did it justice, and I’m sure this will be remade within the next few years, so Hollywood, please take our advice. Enjoy, and it was great to be Tri-Lambs for a day. Enjoy the show and let us know who you would cast in a modern day look at ‘Revenge of the Nerds…..

Bruce Willis Signs On With ‘The Prince’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 9th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

Bruce Willis in GI Joe 2

Bruce Willis isn’t giving up the action films yet. He is set to star in an action-thriller called ‘The Prince‘, which will be produced and financed by Emmett/Furla films. Get this though, the budget is only $15 million dollars. An action film, starring Bruce Willis for only $15 million? That’s crazy, considering what Willis did a few weeks ago.

Film Review: ‘Short Term 12’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 6th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

short_term_12_film_still_a_l

Destin Daniel Cretton’s film ‘Short Term 12‘ is in my Top 5 films of the year. This candid look at life in a big group foster home for trouble kids is natural, endearing, and brutal all at the same time. I was completely moved and fell in love with each character in its 96 minute run-time, and didn’t want to leave them when the credits started to roll. This film is more of an ensemble drama with Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr. taking the more meaty roles. This captivating film will pull at the heart strings, but won’t leave you depressed like so many of these similar films have done before. I cannot wait to see this again and again.

Film Review: Suzanne reviews “Riddick”

by Woozie on Sep 6th, 2013

Hi, Suzanne L., Here….

Screen shot 2013-09-05 at 10.58.20 PM

Keeping an open mind about the third installment of movies featuring Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel) was admittedly difficult. After enjoying 2000’s Pitch Black, the second movie, Chronicles of Riddickdid not live up to the expectations and the budget it was given. Within the first 15 minutes of the latest movie, Riddickmy open mind was wasted. The newest version rehashes old story lines, needs some serious editing, and cannot decide if it is going for cult-kitsch horror or serious action drama.
