Film Review: ‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

hot-tub-time-machine-2-trailer

With the success of the ‘Hot Tub Time Machine‘, both critically and financially, it made sense to make a sequel. Well that time has come and original director and writer Steve Pink and Josh Heald have conjured up more or less a similar story, but this time with more gross out humor and less 80’s pop culture references. Instead of going back in time, the gang minus John Cusack jumps in the tub and end up in the year 2025 in New Orleans, where it looks more like 2015 with the exception of pets flying on hover boards and automobiles acting like humans.

Top 10 Horribly Cheesy Scenes in Otherwise Decent Movies!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

DirtyDancing3-lg

I am not claiming that all of the following movies are cinematic works of art. Some of these films might be considered mediocre at best. However, they do all have one thing in common; all of them suffer from having that one scene that takes audiences out of the moment and makes them groan in disbelief.  This list includes movies that were meant to be taken seriously. So over-the-top comedies and machismo action flicks will not be found as they are created with the intent of being ridiculous.

Film Review: ‘Predestination’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

2013_04_15  predestination_0241 2_{6320ac3a-9984-e311-8492-d4ae527c3b65}

Time travel has been done before Back to the Future, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Timecop, Terminator, and most recently Interstellar, but it hasn’t been done like this.  It is like Interstellar had a lovechild with the film, Womb.  If you haven’t seen Womb or Interstellar, just know that they were both mind-benders in two different ways that join together in Predestination. To mention the aspects would give the story away.  I believe this is the first time a film has explored the consequences of time travel in such a raw way.  No holds barred doesn’t even come close to the conclusions the viewer will see in this perverse tale.

Film Review: ‘The Guest’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 17th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-guest-dan-stevens-1-600x400

Filmmakers Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett have struck gold again. They pleased critics and genre fans alike with last year’s slaughter fest ‘You’re Next‘ and made great entries into the ‘V/H/S‘ franchise. Their new film ‘The Guest‘, which Wingard directed and Barrett wrote, is one of the most entertaining films of the year. Not only that, but Wingard and Barrett single handedly revitalized the horror genre with this movie. It’s a hit to the nostalgic testicles that will make you fall to your knees and yell for joy.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Pumpkinhead’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 8th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

THE FILM

Would you say “Pumpkinhead‘ three times in the dark in front of a mirror? Of course you would, because you haven’t been a bad girl or boy, have you? I remember seeing ‘Pumpkinhead‘ on VHS back when it came out in the late 80s and fell in love with the horrifying creature known as Pumpkinhead, despite some of the movie’s flaws. Hell, I even owned several of they action figures and toys of Pumpkinhead over the years and every time I come across it in my house, I think, “I better be a good person or Pumkpkinhead will come after me.” Well at least that is what I thought when I was younger. But what most interested me, was the creature itself. And that’s where the late, great legend Stan Winston comes into play.

Top 10 List of Reboots We Don’t Want To See!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2014

Paul N., Here…

Terminator-5-TV-Series

Like Bill Murray once said, “he’s got to be stopped. And I have to stop him.” You might have thought he was talking about a weather-predicting rodent, but no, he was actually talking about studio executives (the “he” is collective). Hollywood, like any business, is in it to make money. Therefore, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they choose to rehash tried and true film formulas over and over again rather than take a chance on something new. While this is understandable (albeit infuriating), it doesn’t excuse the idea that EVERYTHING deserves to be re-made. Some films, like priceless art, should never be re-made and re-sold. Every time a classic film gets re-made, audiences hold their collective breaths and hope that it won’t be a straight shot in “the feels” (that nostalgic part of your brain that remembers, with fondness, all your pop culture favorites).

Michael “explosion” Bay is releasing his latest bastardization of 80’s culture unto the world in the shape of the beloved “heroes in a half shell”. In case you haven’t been following, this has been one cluster mess after another. From alien origins to white-washed villains, this movie begs the questions: “does Michael Bay hate the 80’s? Did he have some traumatically horrific experience with toys when he was a kid? Why does he have to take a giant dump on our collective fond memories time after time?”  Read the rest of this entry »

Maggie V. Here…

Vasquez_aliens

I was so happy to be able to talk to actress Jenette Goldstein at Texas Frightmare Weekend. Goldstein played the memorable character Vasquez in “Aliens” and Janelle in “Terminator 2“. She is such a chameleon in the roles she picks that she is almost unrecognizable in person. We talk about her character development and how much of a bad ass she really is. This was such a fun interview. Enjoy.

Texas Frightmare Weekend Recap!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 7th, 2014

Maggie V. Here….

horror-horror-movies-2152340-566-453

To put it lightly, ‘Texas Frightmare Weekend‘ was AWESOME.  From the amazing guests to the outrageous costumes, to the comics, toys, posters, and movie props – all of it was a blast! This was my first time at Texas Frightmare Weekend so I wasn’t sure what to expect. But needless to say my expectations were succeeded. It was at the Hyatt Hotel at DFW airport and by the time I got there on Friday, there were already a ton of people there. This hotel is perfect for this event.  There was ample room for everyone to move around and everything was easily accessible. I immediately went to see Mr. George Romero (the godfather of zombie films) and Tom Savini (makeup artist extraordinaire). Their lines were fairly long but they moved quickly. Romero looks great and seemed to have a great time while Savini looks like he is tired of the convention circuit. It made me laugh. Everyone who worked at the event was very helpful as well.

Texas FrightMare Weekend is almost here, and it looks like it will be the biggest horror convention yeet, packed with tons of horror movie actors, actresses, and directors from your favorite scary movies. You’ll be able to meet the legendary zombie director ‘George Romero‘, Linda Hamilton, and a ‘Terminator‘ reunion minus Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron. Plus, you’ll be able to watch the original ‘Dawn of the Dead‘ with George Romero himself. How cool is that. Below, you’ll be able to find out all of the cool info on guests, times, and bands playing this year at the Festival. Enjoy and see you there.

Podcast #29 – Movies That Should Be Made Into Musicals!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 17th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

shop2_t588

We hope you are enjoying our 29th podcast as much as we are. In the past, we have done a few segments where we give a pitch to a wealthy billionaire (fake, of course) of a topic we want to see greenlit. We have pitched our own music festivals, film festivals, and TV networks, as we discussed all the cool things that we wanted to create and give the world. So along those same lines, we came up with Films that we want to see made into musicals for the Broadway stage. And the more ridiculous the better. My example to my fellow podcasters was ‘SE7EN: The Musical‘!! It only got better from there! And please let us know, what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher and subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show.

‘The Walking Dead’ Companion Series Headed To AMC!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2013

Jana B., Here….

 hr_the_walking_dead

Can there be such a thing as too much of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead‘? I think….it’s possible. When I learned  that AMC is expanding another successful series into a scripted franchise, I have to wonder if the shambling zombies can keep my attention. After giving the go-ahead last week to Better Call Saul, a spinoff series from Breaking Bad, the network just announced that it is in the initial stages of developing a companion series to the mega hit The Walking Dead. The new series is set to televise in 2015.  It will be will be executive produced by The Walking Dead executive producers Robert KirkmanGale Anne Hurd and David Alpert for AMC Studios. Gale Anne Hurd is the standout among the three having learned directly at Roger Corman’s side. She has a laundry list of successful producing credits and quite a few writing credits to her name from ‘The Terminator‘ canon. And of course, Kirkman is the creator of all things ‘The Walking Dead‘.

Hi, Bryan Here….

movies_main_the_toxic_avenger_poster

I never thought I’d write this sentence, but Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently in talks to star in the reboot of Troma’sToxic Avenger’ film. This project will be introduced to potential buys at Cannes this year of all places. I didn’t think Cannes would take any Troma film. But it looks like this re-imaging of ‘Toxic Avenger‘ will be a big budget project. Steve Pink is taking the reins of the film. Pink directed ‘Hot Tub Time Machine‘ and will direct the sequel. This is odd, but amazing news.
