Film Review: ’71’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

71-jack-o-connell

Remember the name Yann Demange, because sooner than later, he’ll be up on stage accepting an Oscar in the near future for his amazing talent as a director. His most recent film, which is more or less his first big feature film is called ‘71‘, and is one of the best “trapped behind enemy lines” movies in a very long time. Not only is the script, which was written by Gregory Burke simply brilliant, but the attention to detail in the period costumes, hair and makeup, and sets look incredible and fully immerses you into 1971 Belfast, Ireland, hence the title.

‘Escape From New York’ Remake Coming From Fox!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 14th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

escapefromnewyork

It’s official the bidding war for ‘Escape From New York‘ was heated, but Fox has won the day and their spoils are rights to remake 1981’s sci-fi actioner that saw a lot of big names saddle up for the ride. Of course, Kurt Russell was perfect as Snake Plissken, Lee Van Clyfe, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasance, Isaac Hayes and Harry Dean Stanton are just among a few of the key players.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Ryan Murphy has made one hell of a name for himself in the history of successful television shows with writing and creating credits from ‘Nip/Tuck‘, ‘Glee‘ and the several incarnations of ‘American Horror Story‘. All things considered, Murphy knows how to scare the crap out of us, or make us want to randomly break out in song and dance in the cafeteria, which for some of us, would be more scary than an episode of AHS.

Film Review: ‘ABC’s of Death 2’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

abcs-of-death-2-2

I’m a complete sucker for horror anthologies. Everything from John Carpenter’sBody Bags‘ to ‘Creepshow‘ to the recent ones of ‘Trick R’ Treat‘ and the ‘V/H/S‘ franchise, I just love watching these talented filmmakers and writers try and scare the hell out of me with their short films, which 9 times out of ten, they succeed. But when I first watched ‘The ABC’s of Death‘ last year, it was a completely different set up.

Film Review: ‘The Guest’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 17th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-guest-dan-stevens-1-600x400

Filmmakers Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett have struck gold again. They pleased critics and genre fans alike with last year’s slaughter fest ‘You’re Next‘ and made great entries into the ‘V/H/S‘ franchise. Their new film ‘The Guest‘, which Wingard directed and Barrett wrote, is one of the most entertaining films of the year. Not only that, but Wingard and Barrett single handedly revitalized the horror genre with this movie. It’s a hit to the nostalgic testicles that will make you fall to your knees and yell for joy.

How Cool Is This ‘Halloween’ Blu-ray Collection!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 13th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

 BqBu2OOCAAM-nsZ

Good news, everyone. Anchor Bay Entertainment and Scream Factory have finally partnered up to give us horror fans something we have wanted for far too long. Not one but two different Blu-Ray box sets that spans all of the ‘Halloween‘ films. There will be tons of new bonus features, every film in high-definition, collectible packaging, and a 40-page Booklet. You can expect this amazing set in time for Halloween season, specifically on September 23rd. It’s about time they did this, because Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street already have box sets. Glad to see ‘Halloween‘ is catching up with everyone else. Now if we can just get that ‘Phantasm‘ box set to release in the US instead of the UK, all will be well. And today, they have unveiled the amazing Box Art it comes in. This is Fantastic. I Can’t wait. And you can pre-order the set now for 30% off.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

“You know what Jack Burton always says. It’s all in the reflexes.” But in this case, it’s all in the comic books. That’s right, ‘Big Trouble in Little China‘ is coming to comic book form starting June 4th from Boom! Studios. The John Carpenter film from 1986 starred Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, a hilarious truck driver who helps his friend Wang rescue his girlfriend from the evil supernatural Lopan and his monster and demon minions. I’m so happy that we get more ‘Big Trouble in Little China‘ now almost thirty years later.

Hi, Bryan Here…

escape

I’m very skeptical about this project. The original ‘Escape from New York‘ that starred Kurt Russell and was directed by John Carpenter is pretty much flawless. ‘Escape From LA‘ on the other hand wasn’t as good, even though it had Bruce Campbell. That being said, Hollywood, specifically producer Joel Silver has been wanting to remake the film for the better part of a decade now. But it seems as of recently, that things are picking up speed.

The Director’s Bracket Championship!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 22nd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

untitled

After 17 weeks, we have finally arrived with a the championship match and a winner for out infamous Director’s bracket. Back 17 weeks ago, we took a couple of days to come up with 64 of the best directors, and put them in a NCAA-style tournament bracket to see who would emerge as the best director of all time. We separated them into four categories, which were: modern filmmakers, dead filmmakers, genre filmmakers, and foreign filmmakers. Some fights ensued over the course of these 17 weeks, but we have all healed, and have picked a winner, which was a 3-2 decision. You can click the link below to see the bracket in its entirety. The final four were Steven Spielberg, John Hughes, John Carpenter, and Danny Boyle.

‘Director’s Bracket Final Four’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 13th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

film_shoot-1

Here we are with the FINAL FOUR picks of our infamous ‘Director’ Bracket’. Over the past thirteen weeks, we have set up a NCAA tournament style bracket with filmmakers, instead of basketball players. It’s been a rough thirteen weeks, narrowing down 64 directors. Well now, we have the final four, and it was tough. Friendships were lost, fights ensued, and blood was shed, but at least we got the picks, right? The match ups were between Stanley Kubrick and John Hughes, John Carpenter and Mel Brooks, David Fincher and Steven Spielberg, and Ridley Scott and Danny Boyle. Enjoy the show….

For you Dallasites out there, I have some excellent news for you. The Angelika Film Center in Dallas is getting into the midnight movie business. Well not so much at midnight, but rather at 11pm. Still, it’s the same concept. Starting November 1st, every Friday and Saturday night, The Angelika will show a retro horror, sci-fi, or comedy movie at 11pm for a only $7.00.  And the first lineup for the next month looks AMAZING.

The Top 20 Vampire Movies Of All Time!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

085 - Evil Ed

I love making lists. Grocery lists. Bucket lists. Holiday lists. Favorite movie lists. Favorite VAMPIRE movie lists. I bet that got your attention, didn’t it? This is MY list of the top 20 Vampire movies ever made. Why did I point out that it was MY list? Easy. So you read this knowing it wasn’t an Academy vote that got a movie on this list. No one paid me to promote their movie. However, I’m NOT against this, just to be clear. Why spend time putting movies in a list? Maybe it satisfies some Freudian lack of paternal affection I suffered as a child. But the real answer is, “Why wouldn’t I make a list as awesome as this?”
