Aug/2020

Hi, Bryan Here….

So much has been speculated and mentioned over the last couple weeks about the whole Disney purchasing Lucas Films, which includes the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.  News came out that they have already begun pre-production on new ‘Star Wars’ films and have even hired a writer.  They are wasting no time at all.  However, it looks like Darth Vader might be back in action for the new films.

Wreck It Ralph – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 2nd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Wreck-It Ralph‘ is one hell of a fun and entertaining movie. Not only will the little kids enjoy this, but adults will eat this up too.  Disney has done a a great job with their 3D animated comedy to start the holiday season.  The amazing voice cast, the video game references, the characters and storyline can all compete with the likes of any Pixar film.  Well, I guess you can get a phenomenal film when you have John Lasseter executive produce and Rich Moore direct.  Moore has directed tons of episodes of ‘The Simpsons’ and just about every episode of ‘Futurama’, so you know this will be a funny and intelligent film done right.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Jason Schwartzman was just offered the lead male voice role in an upcoming DreamWorks animation film called ‘Trolls’.  Schwartzman will take on the role of Masklin and joins Chloe Moretz as she has been cast as the female lead according to Deadline.  Sadly this is not a ‘Troll 2’ remake.  Although, I think that secretly should happen some day soon.  However, this is a new animated feature that revolves around those 80’s/90’s troll dolls.  You know, the ones with the big puffy hair that became huge collectors back in those days.

Bryan Reviews ‘Cars 2’ in 3D!!! (A 3D Blu-ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 19th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…..

I liked two things from Cars 2.  It looks really good and crisp.  And Bruce “man-god” Campbell lends his voice to one of the cars.  That’s it.  I don’t understand why Pixar lowered the bar with this one.  Cars 2 actually should have been called “The Mater Show” since the film it 95% about him, which is just terrible on every level.  Maybe it’s because I find Larry the Cable Guy just an untalented guy.  The first Cars film has always been my least favorite of all the Pixar films, but that’s not saying much, because every Pixar film is AWESOME.  AWESOME until this sequel.  However this is one of the best looking Pixar films ever to grace blu-ray.  And the 3D is top notch after the first big scene of the film.  But does that make it worth the buy?  You be the judge.

Steve Jobs 1955-2011. A sad day for the world.

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 6th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

Steve Jobs the CEO of Apple and and co-founder of Pixar lost his bout with cancer yesterday.  The world has indeed lost the last true genius and thinker who pushed the world into the future.  Jobs was our generation’s Thomas Edison.  I grew up on PC’s.  Playing computer games, Q basic, and writing.  In high school, I got into the world of Apple.  And it wasn’t until eleven years ago that I got my first apple product.  A G4 Tower computer.  It blew my mind as well as my old PC’s out of the water on every level imaginable.   I feel like I could do anything with my mac.  Fast forward a decade later and my household is completely Apple run.  Not to mention I run my website and comic book store on Apple product and software.

Hi Bryan Here….

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ from Disney is sounding awesome.  The new CG animated Disney film looks to be about a bad villain in a video game who wants to prove he can be a good guy.  Now that just sounds AWESOME.  The press releases says it will be a simple 8-bit video game.  Oh nostalgia.  Sounds like ‘Toy Story’ with a little bit of the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ mixed in.  This could be really good.  Plus it already has some great actors lending their voices for the animated film including: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silveman, Jane Lynch, and Jack McBrayer.  Read the entire press release below.

Hi Bryan Here…

It is very difficult to imagine a Buffy Universe without any involvement from its creator, Joss Whedon.  I can’t believe it was 1992 when I was first introduced to Buffy.  I was 11 years old.  Then I went on to enjoy the Buffy universe through tv shows and loved every minute of it.  But now, we will get a reboot on the big silver screen of the Buffy universe.

‘Good Boys’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2019

“‘Good Boys’ is so f#*kin’ funny!”

Three young friends find themselves banning together in the R-rated misadventure of a lifetime in ‘Good Boys‘. When you have Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Jonah Hill, and the producers/writers of ‘The Office‘ work on a movie together, you know you’re bound for big laughs, and that’s exactly the case with this movie. ‘Superbad‘ could be a close relative to ‘Good Boys‘, but replace the three high school friends trying to get laid with three elementary school kids who want to hit up a make-out party and finally kiss a girl. The underlying themes of friendship, growing up and moving on are all on display here, where the charm and innocent vulgarity mix perfectly with each other. ‘Good Boys‘ is so fuckin’ funny!

Shazam! – 4K UHD/Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 29th, 2019

It’s easy to see that the executives at Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been listening to the fans in wanting funnier and more light-hearted superhero films after the super dark and very adult previous films. With ‘Aquaman‘, they literally threw in everything and the kitchen sink into that film to bring a wild, chaotic affair that was silly, yet fun in a “so bad it’s good” kind of way. There is much more of a balance with ‘Shazam!‘ and dare I say it in my most impressive imitation of WWE’s The Rock – “Finally! DC has made a fun movie!” I stand by that statement too as an odd choice in director David S. Sandberg (‘Lights Out‘ and ‘Annabelle: Creation‘) took his cues from Tom Hanks‘ 1980s film ‘Big‘ and made a large budget superhero movie out of it, set in the universe of The Justice League. Everyone in the film looks to be having a great time on screen with their respective characters and it transfers to smiles and laughs in its audience.

Cruel Intentions: The 90’s Musical – Theatre Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 23rd, 2019

“Cruel Intentions: The 90’s Musical is a satisfying night of sensual bliss – and it shouldn’t be missed!”

Just in time to commemorate National Goth Day, The Wyly Theatre in Dallas opened its doors on 5/22 to a risqué musical based on the classic cult film: Cruel Intentions (1999). The stylish lounge was abuzz for opening night of ‘Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical’ as attendees picked up their tickets; each one accompanied by a trendy slap bracelet. As the audience filled the black box theatre auditorium, dark tufted walls and dim lighting set the intimate mood for this scandalous dramedy. Get ready for a late night swim with the cast of ‘Cruel Intentions: The ‘90s Musical’ as they offer up the decade’s best songs with sequenced dance moves, infectious hilarity and yes – put a spotlight on an infamous blue moon.
