Favorite Movies of 2017!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2017

Was 2017 a great year for movies? Of course it was. There were some excellent films to be released in 2017. There were also some bad ones for sure, but the focus on this article are some of the Best films that stuck with me long after viewing. Most people will give you their Top 10 list, but this is no Top 10, because there are just so many movies that I loved and feel passionate about, that I find it difficult and unpleasing to rank them.

Instead, these are my favorite movies of 2017, which I hope you’ve seen already. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a real treat and I can’t wait for you to see them. Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..

Hey guys, Jana here,

59b5f914-0214-41e2-a276-e38a879c0a00

Writer director M. Night Shyamalan (‘The Sixth Sense‘) went from one of the most exciting directors to a cliche joke seemingly overnight after ‘The Village‘ and, especially, the floating turd that was ‘Lady in the Water‘. The man heralded as “the next Spielberg” has seen his stock rise in 2015 with ‘The Visit‘ and once again with ‘Split‘ which many put on par with ‘The Sixth Sense‘. It’s ‘Split‘ that is gathering attention today with the announcement from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment of it’s release to Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand.

Film Review: ‘SPLIT’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 18th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

M. Night Shyamalan has sure given us some wonderful and unforgettable films over the years. Somewhere along the way, Shyamalan lost his way as a filmmaker. So much so, that the studios would leave his name off all advertisements for the movie. It wasn’t until ‘The Visit‘ when Shyamalan came into the good graces of his fans again. Perhaps this is because he only had a very small budget to work with and got creative control without a ton of studio interference to do his own creative work. Now we have a new small budget film from Shyamalan called ‘Split‘, and is yet another step forward for the filmmaker in the third part of his career, which seems to drop the Spielberg aspect and go straight for the B-Movie genre.

Film Review: ‘The Visit’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 9th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

the-visit-06

Finally, we have M. Night Shyamlan back in rare form with his new horror-comedy film ‘The Visit‘, which definitely doesn’t look like a Shyamalan movie at all. In fact, this is one of those “found footage” movies that rejuvenates this sub-genre of filmmaking once again. The world was introduced to M. Night Shyamalan back in 1999 with his hit film ‘The Sixth Sense‘, which quickly led the young director to superstardom as one of the coolest and imaginative directors of this modern era. Not only that, but he re-invented the “twist ending” again, which became a trademark of his down the road.

Film Review: ‘Insurgent’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 19th, 2015

Taylor E., Here…

640_insurgent_trailer_20141212

Insurgent, the sequel to the popular young adult trilogy-turned-film-series, takes place immediately following the events of Divergent. Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James), are on the run from Jeanine (Kate Winslet), who is hunting the Divergents. This action/adventure/science fiction-thriller failed to perform, but was at least pretty to watch. Insurgent would be far more enjoyable if viewed on “mute”.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

wayward-pines-dissecting-wayward-pines-what-can-we-expect

Fox aired the trailer for their new upcoming show ‘Wayward Pines‘, which has an all-star cast, and looks mysterious and pretty frightening. This new series is produced by M. Knight Shyamalan (‘The Sixth Sense‘) and stars Matt Dillon as secret service agent Ethan Burke, who is looking into the deaths of two fellow-agents. He ends up in a strange town where everyone seems on edge and fake. Maybe that’s because the mysterious people who run the town, call people at random and force them to brutally murder fellow citizens. Sounds fun, right?

Will Smith in Talks To Be in ‘Brilliance’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 21st, 2014

Jana B. here,

Brilliance

The silver screen adaptation of the Marcus Sakey novel ‘Brilliance‘ is courting Will Smith to star. This film was already on a ‘to watch’ list when Julius Onah (‘The Girl Is In Trouble‘), the Nigerian-born up and comer, was on tap to direct, but if Smith signs on to act, it will widen the number of people who will be viewing.

Terrence Howard Set To Star In ‘Empire’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 20th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Terrence Howard

Terrence Howard is one of the most hard-working and in-demand actors the film industry has to its credit. Right now, he has 8 projects that are in development. That doesn’t even include some of the powerhouse films he is just on the backside of like ‘Prisoners‘, and the award winning ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler’.

Film Review: ‘After Earth’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

After-Earth-Movie-Trailer-photo

After Earth‘ has a ton of good things going for it. We have Will Smith who has the largest box office draw in the business right now and his son Jaden Smith who has proven he has decent acting chops and can secure a decent crowd. This film also has a post apocalyptic scenario in the sci-fi genre that takes place on different planets in the far off future. Did I mention that it also has aliens, spaceships, and cool weaponry too? This is a perfect recipe for a potential massive summer blockbuster that could make over $1 billion. Despite these seemingly cool aspects, ‘After Earth‘ comes up short and never fully delivers the movie it should be.

Film Review: ‘Now You See Me’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

now-you-see-me-banner

With a mix of ‘The Illusionist‘ and ‘The Prestige‘, and a healthy dose of ‘Ocean’s 11‘, director Louis Leterrier gives us ‘Now You See Me‘, which is a heist movie involving four magicians. The illusions in the film are over-the-top, but incredible and despite the movie’s flaws, its super fast pace makes its problems disappear from memory. With an all-star cast and decent dialogue, this magical caper might be one of the summer’s biggest surprises.

Movie Box Office Weekend Roundup

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2010

Ben Affleck is on top again at the box office.  His movie “The Town: starring himself and John Hamm from the AMC series “Mad Men” is number 1 at the box office this weekend bringing in almost $24 million dollars.

Coming in at number 2 is the teen comedy “Easy A”.  This movie is loosely based on the classic novel “The Scarlet Letter”.  It brought in a little over $18 million dollars.  It only had a budget of $8 million.  So kudos there.  Read Cowdefender’s review HERE.

At number 3 is the M. Night Shyamalan film “Devil” bringing in a little over $12.5 million dollars.  This is the first in  series of films thought up by M. Night Shyamlan who other people write and direct.  Supposed to be a creepy film.  Read Cowdefender’s review HERE.

Resident Evil: Afterlife went from the top spot last week to number 4 this week bringing in $10 million for a combined two week total of $44 million dollars.

George Clooney’s “The American” went from the number 3 spot to the number 7 spot this week bringing in about $2.7 million dollars for a combined three week total of  about $32.8 million dollars.

In a surprising movie, the blockbuster hit “Inception” went from being number 10 last week to number 8 this week bringing in a little over $2 million dollars for a combined 10 week total of a little over $285 million dollars.

Machete came in at number 10 bringing in $1.7 million dollars for a combined 3 weeke total of about $25 million dollars which has surpassed its budget.  Hopefully this means sequel.

Also something to note is Sly Stallone’s “The Expendables”.  It came in at number 12 bringing in $1.4 million dollars for a combined 6 week total of $101 million dollars.  That is an uber violent rated “R” film bringing in that much money.  Kudos Sly.  Kudos.

That’s it for this week.  Stay tuned for next weekend.
