TERMINATOR: DARK FATE – Film Review

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 1st, 2019

New and old terminators battle it out to save humankind once again in this heavy-handed homage to the original two films with Terminator: Dark Fate. There are a few elements to like in this big reunion in the Terminator universe, but silly winks and too many head-nods ultimately take you out of the moment, along with some fairly over-the-top action sequences that seem to belong inside a Fast and Furious movie. Even though Arnold Schwarzenegger is still solid gold in this character, perhaps the robot apocalypse was the best thing that could have happened.

I Am Mother – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 9th, 2019

“I Am Mother is one sci-fi film that gets it right.”

As we’ve seen before, robots with artificial intelligence will either help us succeed into the future with a peaceful existence or completely obliterate the world population for their global takeover. With the new Netflix original movie I Am Mother, it’s not so black and white as that. There is a big gray area as newcomer directory Grant Sputore graciously tells the story about a human/robot relationship. This aptly paced thriller has some wonderful original ideas that are implemented with twist and turns throughout that never sells itself short on passionate participation. This is one sci-fi film that gets it right.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Piranha II: The Spawning’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 3rd, 2018

Back in 1981, the world was introduced to filmmaker James Cameron (T2: Judgement Day, Avatar, True Lies). His first feature film was called ‘Piranha II: The Spawning‘ or otherwise known as The Flying Killers and was a sequel to the first ‘Piranha‘ film from a few years prior. The production of this movie had a very troubled history, where Cameron wasn’t even the filmmaker hired for the job. The original director was fired due to differences with the hard-nosed Italian producer. This was also true with Cameron as well, where Cameron had a completely different filmed version and script of the movie that was more or less a comedy horror film that was fun.

Hey guys, Jana here,

leonardo-dicaprio-inline-zoom-e780bd67-8bfe-4cb1-a724-88c8403b9bba

I am a Leonardo DiCaprio fan. I’ve never hidden it, but I am. I wasn’t in love with him and his boyish good looks like other girls my age were, I recognized him from ‘Growing Pains‘, after all. He didn’t begin his career as absolutely gorgeous, that developed over time. I had to learn to love his work for what it was. Saying that, Leo’s been overlooked for that naked, golden, guy many times before he finally won his first Oscar at last night’s award show.

Guillermo del Toro is a busy man, but when you’re as creative as he is, it would require multiple outlets to sate the flow of curiosity. He recently joined with James Cameron to direct a remake of ‘Fantastic Voyage‘,this time del Toro is in the news for lending his skills to produce a movie version of ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark‘.

Since ‘Pacific Rim 2‘ has been shelved indefinitely, Master of the Chiller, director Guillermo del Toro is circling his next project and it looks to be a remake of the 1960’s sci-fi series ‘Fantastic Voyage‘. del Toro is coming off his last picture, ‘Crimson Peak‘ released October of last year, it was moderately received despite the star power involved. So it looks like it’s time to go small, figuratively speaking, of course.

Film Review: ‘Terminator Genisys’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 30th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

maxresdefault

The year is 2015 and we have our fifth ‘Terminator‘ film, titled ‘Terminator Genisys‘ or simply ‘Terminator 5‘. I’m going to start by saying that there should NOT be another ‘Terminator‘ film made unless James Cameron returns to write and direct it. There have been three ‘Terminator‘ movies since ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day‘, all of which were made by people other than James Cameron. How did they turn out? Let’s just say they were less than stellar.

Enjoy ‘The Terminator: Genisys’ Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 4th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

terminator-reboot-genesis-images

Well, there is going to be more ‘Terminator‘ films. The current one being made is called ‘Terminator: Genisys‘ and has Arnold Schwarzenegger back in his iconic role. We’ve written about this before on the site, and while I say, that no ‘Terminator‘ film can be good without James Cameron at the helm, this one might come close.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Pumpkinhead’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 8th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

artwork-revealed-for-blu-ray-release-of-pumpkinhead

THE FILM

Would you say “Pumpkinhead‘ three times in the dark in front of a mirror? Of course you would, because you haven’t been a bad girl or boy, have you? I remember seeing ‘Pumpkinhead‘ on VHS back when it came out in the late 80s and fell in love with the horrifying creature known as Pumpkinhead, despite some of the movie’s flaws. Hell, I even owned several of they action figures and toys of Pumpkinhead over the years and every time I come across it in my house, I think, “I better be a good person or Pumkpkinhead will come after me.” Well at least that is what I thought when I was younger. But what most interested me, was the creature itself. And that’s where the late, great legend Stan Winston comes into play.

Captain Typho:
My Lady, let me come with you.
Padmé:
There is no danger. The fighting is over, and... this is personal.
[Typho bows]
Captain Typho:
As you wish, My Lady... but I strongly disagree.
Padmé:
I'll be all right, Captain. This is something I must do myself. Besides, Threepio will look after me.

Oh, dear.
