Film Review: ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 12th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

I can officially say that the first AWESOME, kick-ass movie of 2015 is finally here, which is ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service‘. Based on Mark Millar’s (Kick-Ass) comic book, director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake, Snatch) has once again delivered the goods and high entertainment value with an homage to spy films, particularly the ‘James Bond‘ franchise. So what’s that mean? It means the guy who made ‘Kick-Ass‘ and produced ‘Snatch‘, made his own version of ‘James Bond‘, and it’s as violent and gory and funny as his other films I mentioned.

Film Review: ‘20,000 Days On Earth’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 15th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

20000daysonearth

I’ve been a huge fan of Nick Cave since 1994 when he and The Bad Seeds released their album ‘Let Love In‘. And over the past twenty years, I have purchased his music on vinyl, CD, and digitally. Nick Cave is not only one of the coolest people on the planet and a legendary musician and singer, but he is also a filmmaker who often collaborates with the amazing Warren Ellis.

Film Review: ‘Earth to Echo’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2014

Janet W., Here…

Earth to Echo is a film that exhibits what it really means to be a friend.  Can distance or circumstance separate real friends?

In the spirit of amateur filmmaking (constant shaking and quick pans that make your head hurt and your stomach queasy), we see the world, or at least part of Nevada, through the eyes of three, middle school aged, close friends, and a mysterious watcher.  Munch (Reese Hartwig) is a hyper, brainiac/hypochondriac.  Alex (Teo Halm) is a foster child that is used to being left behind.  Tuck (Astro) is Mr. Storyteller who has a camera glued to him at all times.  Munch, Alex, and Tuck are faced with mass eviction of their neighborhood for the construction of a complex series of highways.

The current theme with television series these days is they are either pointless, mind-numbing, IQ lowering reality shows, or big cable network sponsored in-depth series. I’m glad that it seems the sweeping series are becoming more the norm. Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead is adding to his stable of excellent tv offerings with Outcast. No, this isn’t going to be about a leper that is ostracized from the community, or even more zombies that are a threat to the brain functioning population. This time  we step into the world of exorcisms.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Director Roland Emmerich has been talking to masses these last few days on his sequel to ‘Independence Day‘. A couple of days ago, he said that Will Smith won’t be returning as the lead as he is too expensive, but he is trying to work out a del with him for a small cameo role. However, he did say today when talking to movie.com, Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum would be back in their respective roles.

Film Review: ‘Man of Steel’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 12th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

man-of-steel-theme

Did we need another Superman origin story to grace our theaters just seven years after Bryan Singer’s attempt at ‘Superman Returns‘? While that particular film wasn’t so much a reboot as it was a sequel to the original ‘Superman 2‘, and its failure in its characters and story, maybe it was time to forget that ‘Superman Returns‘ existed and start from scratch. And with the super success of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and Marvel’s Avenger’s films, DC and Warner Bros. might want to take the same road to a Justice League film starting with ‘Man of Steel‘.

Film Review: ‘After Earth’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

After-Earth-Movie-Trailer-photo

After Earth‘ has a ton of good things going for it. We have Will Smith who has the largest box office draw in the business right now and his son Jaden Smith who has proven he has decent acting chops and can secure a decent crowd. This film also has a post apocalyptic scenario in the sci-fi genre that takes place on different planets in the far off future. Did I mention that it also has aliens, spaceships, and cool weaponry too? This is a perfect recipe for a potential massive summer blockbuster that could make over $1 billion. Despite these seemingly cool aspects, ‘After Earth‘ comes up short and never fully delivers the movie it should be.

Hi, Bryan Here….

10034_400x600

We have heard it all when it comes to ‘Y The Last Man‘, originally an epic and amazing comic book series from the talented Brian K. Vaughan and  Pia Guerra, which began in 2002 under DC’s Vertigo label.  We’ve heard it would be a film, a television series, and few other mediums.  Nothing ever seemed to get off the ground.  But finally, New Line Cinema is moving forward with a film based on the comic book.

The Bishop Charlotte Reporting….

Having not seen Volumes 1 and 2, I considered that I might be a bit confused coming into the plot. However, a review like this can be done by a fangirl like me due to an extensive knowledge of comic book characters and situations. I marched right into Episode 14 of this series without breaking a sweat, and was mildly disappointed to learn that I am not special here – anyone could do it.

Hi Bryan Here….

Morgan Freeman and Tom Cruise will be starring alongside in ‘Oblivion’.  Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy), ‘Oblivion’ follows Cruise who is  the last man on a post-apocalyptic and nearly uninhabitable Earth, who stays behind to repair ships that hunt down and blast a virulent alien species.  And Freeman will play a vital part of the film, but that role is known at this time.

It’s brutally impossible to fathom The Doors’ 1971 Elektra Records masterpiece, “L.A. Woman,” is the Los Angeles quartet’s sixth and final album with singer/poet/shaman Jim Morrison, not to mention sounding as fresh and amazing as anything that has come out since, by any band. What’s equally impossible is to hear an album you’ve heard millions of times in your life for the very first time, and yet, “Mr. Mojo Risin’: The Story of L.A. Woman” is a uniquely superb and insightful document chronicling the making-of the band’s storied swan song that allows you to experience this magnificent piece of work for what feels like the very first time (again.)
