Hi Bryan Here….

Ethan Coen and Joel Coen are set to executive produce an hourlong single-camera comedy for Fox, which the two co-created with another feature writer, Phil Johnston (Cedar Rapids). The project, titled HarveKarbo, has received a script commitment with significant penalty from Fox.  How cool is this.  I wonder how hands on the Coens will be on this.

Hi Bryan Here….

Charlie Sheen and Lionsgate have made a deal to bring the ‘Anger Management’ to television with Sheen set to star.  ‘Anger Management’ is based on the 2003 Adam Sandler/Jack Nicholson comedy.  In Sheen’s deal, he will own a considerable stake in the show.  The show will follow a “mild-mannered, non-confrontational man who is ordered to attend group anger management sessions led by a therapist who could probably use some anger management himself.”

‘Game of Thrones’ Is The Last TV Show of Its Kind!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 9th, 2019

Television has always been a cultural touchstone for me growing up. I remember the rush home to catch the season finales of Lost and 24 so I wouldn’t miss out on the conversation the next day. When my wife was in college I bought her a DVD recorder that we would set on a timer to record shows on to a blank DVD. When TIVO and recording came around it was a Godsend. This is how television has always been to me. The collective pop culture experience that would take the next day at work discussing everything we all watched together. I understand this way of consuming media has been dying for years but it struck me a few days ago that April and May are the true end of an era, specifically with Game of Thrones.

‘Relaxer’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 22nd, 2019

“It’s a film that crawls under your skin, but in a great way.”

At some point in all our lives, we’ve all daydreamed of sitting on the couch for days on end without a care in the world, a bill to pay, and appointment to make, or someone to answer to. All we want to do is watch television or in the case of Joel Potrykus‘ new film ‘Relaxer‘ – play video games all day. Set in 1999 and all on a unkempt couch, we meet Abbie (Joshua Burge) who acts much younger than he is and would rather play video games rather than clean himself or meet people outside of his house.

Climax – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2019

There are no other motion pictures out there quite like a Gaspar Noé film. The French filmmaker only has a few movies under his belt, but they have all made a significant impact on cinema in general, including the controversial films ‘Irreversible‘, ‘I Stand Alone‘, and ‘Enter The Void‘. Noé’s latest film, which I’m going to call his latest masterpiece, is called ‘Climax‘, and is a thrilling musical journey straight into hell.

‘Someone’s Watching Me!’ Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 8th, 2018

Not to be confused with Michael Jackson’s song (Rockwell) ‘Somebody’s Watching Me‘, this 1978 made-for-television film called ‘Someone’s Watching Me!‘ was directed by the iconic John Carpenter (Halloween), which interestingly enough, came out a couple of weeks after ‘Halloween‘ was released in theaters. The film stars Lauren Hutton as a young woman who moves from NYC to LA in order to become a TV producer/director. She seems to be enjoying life out there, however, she has a stalker who spies on her from the building across from her with a telescope. This stalker sends her awful messages, harasses her, and even sends her strange gifts in the mail.

TV Review: The New ‘JACK RYAN’ Series!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 4th, 2018

This weekend I had the time to watch the entire first season of Amazon’s new series Jack Ryan. Growing up I enjoyed all of the Harrison Ford versions of Jack Ryan and even liked the Ben Affleck iteration. The reboot attempt with Chris Pine fell pretty flat for me a few years back but I’ve always enjoyed the character. John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan is a perfectly serviceable TV hero but is really bogged down by the story around him. In an effort to be optimistic, I will say that I am hopeful for the second season.

Film Review: ‘Ahockalypse’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2018

The past decade and a half, the undead have risen in all forms of entertainment. We’ve seen zombies on the big screen with big stars like Brad Pitt, we’ve seen the undead walk on prime time television and win awards, along with playing zombies in video games, and even in our kid-friendly cartoons. Zombies are the main-stay nowadays and like superhero movies, they’ve completely oversaturated the movie market, where it becomes tiresome to watch yet another zombie movie. We’ve seen Nazi zombies, Shakespeare zombies, marijuana zombies, romantic comedy zombies, and even zombie beavers. What’s next? I’ll tell you what’s next, it’s a movie called ‘AHOCKALYPSE‘ and is a hockey sports movie with zombies that was made in Minnesota.

LP Review: ‘Luke Cage Season 2’ Soundtrack!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2018

Marvel is certainly on a roll with their content over this past decade with their billion dollar movies and their successful television shows across multiple platforms. One of these shows is called ‘Luke Cage‘, which just debuted its second season on Netflix. Luke Cage was the first black superhero in comic books to be featured as the main protagonist with his name as the title. Cage is an ex-convict who was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit who was experimented on, thus creating his superpowers of strength and unbreakable skin. Once he hones in on these powers, he basically becomes a hero for hire and is one of the coolest characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Movie Quotes

Floyd:
Takin' bets today, Red?
Red:
Smokes or coins, better's choice.
Floyd:
Smokes. Put me down for two.
Red:
All right, who's your horse?
Floyd:
That little sack o' shit. Eighth, eighth from the front. He'll be first.
Heywood:
Aw, bullshit. I'll call that action. You out some smokes, son, let me tell you!
Floyd:
Well, Heywood, you so smart, you call it!
Heywood:
I'll take the chubby fat-ass there. Fifth from the front. Put me down for a quarter deck.
