Hi, Bryan Here….

As we have previously reported, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are making their directorial debut with ‘End of the World’.  This is based on a short film that starred Rogen and Jay Baruchel called ‘Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse’.  It had both  Rogen and Baruchel who took shelter in their apartment as they dealt with the end of the world.  Of course this is going to be on a much bigger scale and since it’s Rogen and Goldberg’s first job at directing; they want to litter the film with tons of big cameos.

Seth Rogen is looking to make his directorial debut with ‘The Apocalypse’ which is currently in final negotiations with Sony.  The film was written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg from a story by Jason Stone. The film was inspired by a short called ‘Jay and Seth vs The Apocalypse’. ‘Good Boys’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2019

“‘Good Boys’ is so f#*kin’ funny!”

Three young friends find themselves banning together in the R-rated misadventure of a lifetime in ‘Good Boys‘. When you have Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Jonah Hill, and the producers/writers of ‘The Office‘ work on a movie together, you know you’re bound for big laughs, and that’s exactly the case with this movie. ‘Superbad‘ could be a close relative to ‘Good Boys‘, but replace the three high school friends trying to get laid with three elementary school kids who want to hit up a make-out party and finally kiss a girl. The underlying themes of friendship, growing up and moving on are all on display here, where the charm and innocent vulgarity mix perfectly with each other. ‘Good Boys‘ is so fuckin’ funny!

The Lion King (2019) – Film Review

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 19th, 2019

“The Lion King is a soulless remake of the original.”

The Lion King is a soulless remake of the original that is beautiful to look at but (mostly) lacks any charm of the animated classic. In order to even properly discuss this movie one has to acknowledge that all of these Disney remakes are completely unnecessary cash grabs by Disney. I don’t care about that aspect to be honest. They are a business, and businesses need to make money. However, you can’t have a conversation about the substance of the movie if all you do is say how these “live action” remakes are pointless the whole time so I wanted to get that out of the way up front.

Long Shot – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 2nd, 2019

“Long Shot is fun to suspend disbelief for the sake of a romantic comedy.”

In reality, it’s a long shot that Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen end up together, but in Long Shot, it’s fun to suspend disbelief for the sake of a romantic comedy. This is Hitch meets Notting Hill and honestly, it was one of the better rom-coms I have seen lately. It’s got just enough star power, with smaller but shiny supporting roles, that it doesn’t overwhelm like the films that throw in every star they can (New Years Eve or He’s Just Not That Into You).  The plot is a bit farfetched, but it’s a Hollywood love story so just go with it.

Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day Lewis are back at it again with a new film called ‘Phantom Thread‘, which is set to release on Christmas later this year. I’m quite sure the film, along with both Lewis and Anderson will be nominated for all the Oscars. Of course, Anderson brought us ‘Boogie Nights‘ all those years ago and has continued to bring us amazing films over the years. He even teamed with Daniel Day Lewis with ‘There Will Be Blood‘, which is still talked about today, milkshakes and all.

Look Who Will Be in the Live Action Lion King Remake!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 10th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Unfortunately, Disney is remaking The Lion King in the form of a live-action debacle, similar to the recent horrid turd of a film Beauty and the Beast. Fortunately though, they have Jon Favreau in the director’s chair. I trust him. He gave us Iron Man and the recent live-action remake of The Jungle Book, which was loads better than that Beast movie. There are literally no humans in The Lion King story, unlike Jungle Book or Beauty and the Beast and if it follows the same pattern with the same exact camera shots and songs as its animated predecessor, it’s more than likely going to lose whatever emotion and lovable quality it had in the lifeless eyes of the CGI live-action animals.

Kay Cannon, writer and producer for hits like ‘30 Rock‘, ‘Pitch Perfect‘ and ‘New Girl‘, is stepping behind the camera for the first time with ‘The Pact’. The film has already got some A-list talent attached in the form of Leslie Mann (‘The Other Woman‘, ‘Vacation‘), Ike Barinholtz (‘Suicide Squad‘, ‘Sisters‘) and WWE superstar John Cena (‘Sisters’, ‘Daddy’s Home‘).

‘The Toxic Avenger’ Movie Has Lift Off!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

the-toxic-avenger

We’ve talked about the reboot of ‘The Toxic Avengera few times here, but we’ve heard nothing of it actually starting to film. That is changing today. Conrad Vernon, who co-directed ‘Sausage Party‘ with Seth Rogen is slated to take the director’s seat here, hopefully with Troma head honcho Lloyd Kaufman. If you know anything about Troma or ‘The Toxic Avenger‘, you would know that their films and Toxie is not for the faint of heart or for a mainstream audience by any means.

Film Review: ‘Neighbors 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

0002-neighbors-2-ew_0

It’s rare when a comedy sequel works on all levels. With sequels, you’d hope the original cast comes back and there is a good balance of returning and new jokes and plot devices to make it stand on its own without doing the same recycled material as the original. With the case of ‘Neighbors‘, you had a pretty great cast with Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, in an ‘R’ rated comedy about a couple with a newborn baby, trying to raise a family next to a frat house. It was a solid premise with a lot of funny moments. The small budget film of only $18 million went on to make over $270 million at the box office.

Movie Quotes

Will Turner:
You left Jack to the kraken.
Elizabeth Swann:
He's rescued now, it's done with.
[pause]
Elizabeth Swann:
Will, I had no choice.
Will Turner:
You chose not to tell me.
Elizabeth Swann:
I couldn't. It wasn't your burden to bear.
Will Turner:
But I did bear it, didn't I? I just didn't know what it was. I thought...
Elizabeth Swann:
You thought I loved him.
[Elizabeth tries to push past Will]
Will Turner:
[Will blocks her exit and pushes her back against the pillar of the cabin] If you make your choices alone... how can I trust you?
Elizabeth Swann:
[pause] You can't.
