Fernando’s Film Review of ‘John Wick’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 23rd, 2014

Fernando M., Here….

John-Wick-Movie (11)

Remember all those times you made fun of Keanu Reeves?  Well get ready to eat your words you nonbelievers!  Reeves is fixin to show you what pain is for 90 minutes of gun shooting neck breaking knife stabbing throat crunching action! The plot is as timeless a tale as our childhood stories of yesteryear.  Who doesn’t remember that lovable parable about the old retired hitman who gets wronged by the Russian mob….oh….well anyways, that’s the plot.  It is an incredibly simple setup for a fantastic revenge story.

Film Review: ‘John Wick’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 21st, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

John Wick Movie

It’s been a long while since we’ve received a balls out action movie that works on every level. Luckily for us, filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have concocted one hell of a brutal, fun, and highly entertaining action film, starring the man, the myth, the legend Keanu Reeves. If you’ve been bored with your action movie choices as of lately, don’t worry, ‘John Wick‘ is the ultimate action flick of the year. Sure, it’s a story that you’ve seen many times before, and I’m sure you’ll see many times after this one, but ‘John Wick‘ is filmed so well, has great performances, and is as brutal as you would hope in a gut wrenching action film, that you’ll leave the theater fully satisfied and wanting a ‘John Wick‘ franchise.

Hello, Jana here,

h0qn7y2r4ikrdkrf7ve4

A John Grisham novel is like a mug of coffee on a stormy day, a glass of wine after the kids are asleep, or even a Xanax when you want to rip someone’s head off. The point is, it’s a calming, reassuring presence. It’s going to be an intense, legal, thrill ride that has a feel-good ending. Grisham’s tried and true writing style is gripping, authentic and something that lends itself to film adaptation easily. This has been the case with ‘The Firm‘, ‘The Pelican Brief‘, ‘The Client‘ and ‘A Time to Kill‘ among several others. There is even a complete departure from his norm evident in ‘Christmas With The Kranks‘.

Step Brothers movie image Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly

I love a good buddy movie and won’t even pretend that I don’t. That being said, I loved Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly teaming up in Step Brothers! Needless to say, this news about a new film from Sony and Ferrell’s joint company, Gary Sanchez Productions, with Adam McKay, got me excited for what this movie will have in store. Sony is remembering that sweet payday that Step Brothers brought them when it earned $100 million in domestic box office sales, I’m sure. Devil’s Night is the name of this potential comedy gold. If that name doesn’t evoke memories from movies like The Crow and Grosse Pointe Blank, well you just haven’t been paying attention.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I’ve already noticed as of a couple of weeks ago that stores have already set up shop for Halloween.  I’m getting psyched already for this year’s Halloween celebrations.  And of course, what is Halloween without John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’?  I just love this film, and am excited that this horror classic is returning to the theater.  The film will open in theaters on October 25th and run through October 31st.  Participating theaters will be listed beginning Friday, Sept 14, and new locations will be added continuously through Sept 28. Be sure to check back with ScreenVision for newly added theaters.  Scroll down for our current list and please check back for updates!  You can click the links below to purchase tickets as well.

EXTRACTION – Netflix Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 22nd, 2020

“What an energetic thrill ride Extraction is.”

A story that has been done many times before is given a big breath fo fresh life and brutality in Netflix’s newest violent action film Extraction, starring Thor the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, as he escorts a kidnapped kid out of India to safety, avoiding the ruthless drug cartel. What seemed like just another yawn of an action film, turned into one hell of a thrilling and extraordinary experience in Extraction, which can share a space with some of the best action films ever made. What an energetic thrill ride Extraction is.

BIRDS OF PREY – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 6th, 2020

“Birds of Prey is shot extremely well, keeps the pace fast, and goes in a different direction than any DC film before it.”

DC Comics and Warner Bros. have been putting their ears to the ground and listening to the calls for a less brooding and more energetic, fun-paced superhero universe for quite some time now. We saw a good bit of that change in the wonderful Shazam! film and now DC Comics has turned that volume up to eleven with the ultra-violent, over-the-top anti-hero team-up Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Even the title suggests that they’re trying too hard, which is the ultimate flaw with this otherwise fun if not exhausting movie.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2020

Dan Moran’s Favorite Movies This Year (in no order):

This is one of the most powerful movie experiences I had this year. An amazing cast anchored by two young newcomers in Taylor Russell & Kelvin Harrison showcase a whirlwind of emotion as a family in Florida deals with unspeakable tragedies and how they cope moving forward.

‘Siberia’ Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 29th, 2018

Keanu Reeves is one of the most fun and best actors around. We all love him in a variety of films and we can’t wait until the next installments of ‘John Wick‘ and ‘Bill and Ted‘. In between these films, it’s really hit or miss with the movies Keanu chooses, but one thing is and will always be true – Keanu Reeves is a badass and a great actor. So ‘Siberia‘ is his most recent film that probably took a couple of weeks to shoot and I’ll compare it to Leo DiCaprio’s ‘Blood Diamond’ movie because it has Keanu Reeves in the diamond business under shady and dangerous conditions.

UPGRADE

Upgrade is an excellent 90 minute Black Mirror episode. If you enjoy action movies or anything sci-fi I suggest checking out this quiet little movie before it leaves theaters. The basic plot is in the near future a guy has his spine severed when he and his wife get attacked by a group of men. After becoming a quadriplegic, he undergoes an experimental procedure that puts an AI chip in his spine. This chip gives him some superhuman abilities and senses which he uses to hunt down his wife’s killers.

Film Review: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2018

Ryan Reynolds was born to play the Marvel Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Reynolds just pours all of his unique charm, wit, comedy, and physical choreography into the character. It’s almost like Reynolds is the actual Deadpool in real life, and indeed the world is better for it. Marvel and Fox decided to play nice a couple of years ago and we got a rated R Marvel superhero film with ‘Deadpool‘. It was a gamble for sure with the strong bloody violence and foul language, but the film ended up making almost $800 million at the box office and  was met with rave reviews across the board.

Film Review #2: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 15th, 2018

Deadpool 2 checks all the boxes of  the very entertaining first film to the point you wonder if the script was some sort of mad lib experiment. Don’t get me wrong, letting Ryan Reynolds go full Ryan Reynolds in an R Rated superhero movie is a 90 minute blast just like it was the first time around but that’s kind of the problem… Deadpool 2 brought nothing new to the table. The Deadpool movie formula works to an extent because Reynolds is so damn fun and the first time you hear the jokes and references they land almost every time. Every criticism of the film can be 100% true but also not matter one bit with this franchise because Ryan Reynolds‘ charm is turned up so damn high that you gloss over the abundant flaws because there was a joke that you actually choked on a drink from.

Film Review: ‘Death Wish’ (2018)!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 1st, 2018

Filmmaker Eli Roth is passionate about the horror and thriller genre since he was young. His big debut film was Cabin Fever, and then went on to the successful hyper-violent ‘Hostile’ film series. More recently, he made ‘Green Inferno‘, which was similar to ‘Cannibal Holocaust‘. Needless to say, Roth isn’t subtle in his filmmaking, as he’s shown close up gore and torture on screen with an over-the-top style. When it was announced that Roth was sitting in the director’s chair for a remake of 1974’s classic film ‘Death Wish‘, that replaces Charles Bronson with Bruce Willis, I was excitedly intrigued to see his take on this iconic film. With writer Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Narc, Smokin’ Aces) penning the script, this updated version of ‘Death Wish‘ is quite toned down for Eli Roth’s resume, which isn’t a bad thing.

Ethan Hawke has ’24 Hours To Live’ on Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 12th, 2018

Why did this movie not get a major theatrical release? I have no idea. This movie called ‘24 Hours To Live‘ stars Ethan Hawk and produced by the guys who helped make ‘John Wick‘. I mean, this has gold written all over it. Not sure what bonus features will be available, but there is none listed at the moment. Let’s hope that changes. You can currently see the film On Demand, but the Blu-ray will be available on February 6th.

Captain Typho:
My Lady, let me come with you.

There is no danger. The fighting is over, and... this is personal.

Captain Typho:
As you wish, My Lady... but I strongly disagree.

I'll be all right, Captain. This is something I must do myself. Besides, Threepio will look after me.
