JOKER – 4K UHD Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 7th, 2020

THE FILM

Todd Phillips is several oceans removed from his usual comedy escapades (The Hangover trilogy) with his brutally dark, yet brilliant film ‘Joker‘. Those of you who are not particularly fond of the comic book genre these days will still find something amazing in this DC universe that takes place in the 1980s. Joaquin Phoenix gives an unparalleled performance as the titular psychopath with a smile like you’ve never seen him before in pages or on-screen. It’s really something to behold, but then again, Phoenix is always magnificent. The real star of the film is director Todd Phillips himself, who for the first time showed that he can hang with the likes of Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, and Francis Ford Coppola, delivering a picture-perfect account on Joker.

‘Joker’ – Film Review!

Film Review: ‘The Nun’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 6th, 2018

Coming in as WORST MOVIE OF THE YEAR so far, ‘The Nun‘ fails to impress on every level. I don’t say this lightly either. I’m a huge proponent of the horror genre and do believe that ‘The Conjuring‘, ‘The Conjuring 2‘, ‘Annabelle‘, and ‘Annabelle Creation‘ are some of the best modern day horror movies we have around. When we were introduced to this demonic nun un ‘The Conjuring 2‘, I had terrific nightmares where I had to sleep with the lights on. This character was horrific in a fantastic way. This nun was the hit of the ‘Conjuring‘ sequel for sure and now we have a whole entire film, simply titled ‘The Nun‘ that gives us a story about her from a couple of decades prior to the events in ‘The Conjuring‘. It’s not a prequel or origin story though as nothing about this demonic nun known as Valek is discussed. With a terrible screenplay, awful dialogue, dreadful editing, and camera movements, and not to mention stale performances – I prayed for the film to get better, but ‘The Nun‘ let me down at every turn. In fact, the film is so horrendous that I actually started to enjoy it on some comedic type of level.

4K UHD Review: ‘Justice League’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Dan Moran)

There are several things about Justice League that are good. I think the cast is terrific. Gal GadotBen AffleckJason Momoa, and Ezra Miller are great in their roles. They each have a character moment (earned or not) that makes me interested in seeing their next solo adventure. DC/WB has put some talented filmmakers in charge of the next slate of movies. Justin Lin doing Aquaman sounds great, Patty Jenkins taking Wonder Woman on her next adventure, and Matt Reeves writing and directing The Batman. These are world-class filmmakers who have a great actor in the title role and hopefully that leads to some great story telling. I have no idea who is directing The Flash but I did enjoy him as the comic relief character in Justice League and would like to see if he is more than that in the future. Even Henry Cavill’s “new” Superman was delightful as he is reborn in this film and is no longer a whiney douchebag with terrible parents. Man of Steel 2 is actually on my radar now! But those are the nicest things I can say about Justice League. I loved the cast and I look forward to their solo adventures because having them all together in whatever Justice League was/is/supposed to be was a horrific insult to the fans of DC and moviegoers in general.

DC Comics and Warner Bros. is set to release a hardcore rated R ‘Suicide Squad‘ animated film called ‘Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay‘ on 4k UHD and Blu-ray. You can watch the film digitally on march 27th, 2018 and purchase the 4K UHD and Blu-ray on April 10th, 2018. The film is rated R for strong bloody violence throughout, sexual content, brief graphic nudity, and some drug material. I’m super excited for this already.

You never thought we’d get a crossover feature animated film of Batman and Scooby-Doo, did you? Well we have one now and I’m here to say that’s it’s quite a fun experience that combines both the DC Universe and the classic Scooby-Doo antics that we’ve grown to love. This marks the 30th Scooby-Doo film and brings back the whole ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold‘ cast back to the screen, which is the first time since 2011 when they went off the air with their hit TV show. On paper, or even the fun poster art of the film, you wouldn’t think these two worlds would mix well together, but when the two universes collide, its seems like they were always meant to be together and solve crimes together. They are the peanut butter and jelly of the animated world.

4K UHD Review: Wonder Woman!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

The Warner Bros./DC Comics Cinematic Universe has been trying to get off its feet for a while now with no success, besides some decent box office money. However, most people would tell you that the new DC Comics‘ films are just not up to par with their rivals over at Marvel for many reasons. These people would be right. Perhaps one of the best moments of Batman v Superman was in fact Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It was just a shame she only had a few minutes of screen time in that film. The rest was mostly trash. Luckily, Warner Bros. and DC Comics decided to finally make a Wonder Woman movie, which is the first superhero film to feature a female superhero as its main protagonist, as well with a female director with Patty Jenkins. The result is satisfying, making Wonder Woman a damn good film with a few flaws.

Film Review: ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 7th, 2017

Dan M., here….

the_lego_batman_movie_-_batcave_teaser_trailer_screen_shot_-h_2016

The Lego Batman Movie or Deadpool for Families.

When it was released in 2014, The Lego Movie shocked me with how great it was. It was hilarious, had a brilliant concept, and a big reveal that was executed perfectly. It is also one of the few non-Disney/Pixar movies to have a ton of heart. Since that time I’ve seen some Lego Frozen shorts on Disney Channel and some Star Wars Lego stuff thanks to my kids and the humor is pretty top notch. The Lego Batman Movie takes all of these elements and created a truly laugh out loud movie, with a fun story, and some heartwarming moments. It is an A+ family movie.
