End of Year 2025 Awards

Out in the world of award film podcasts, Fear and Loathing in Cinema sets itself apart with its irreverent blend of pop culture critique, nostalgic deep-dives, and a razor-sharp, at times almost uncomfortably candid, dissection of cinematic relics that were once scorned but now, with the benefit of time, seem worthy of a second look.

Hosted by a group of unpredictable yet undeniably insightful voices; Bryan Kluger, a media director with a sharp sense of irony of offensive things; Dan Moran, a lawyer who brings an often absurd legal perspective of the film industry and Kevin Costner; Preston Barta, a film critic with a taste for the heart-warmingly obscure branch of cinema; and Chelsea Nicole, a culture critic who digs into the nuances of social dynamics and horror; Fear and Loathing in Cinema Podcast thrives in that rare space between sincere analysis and gut-busting humor.

The end-of-the-year episode of Fear and Loathing in Cinema has arrived, like a tipsy friend barging into your living room on December 31st with a notebook full of opinions and absolutely no intention of keeping them to themselves. This isn’t an episode devoted to a single film so much as it is a cinematic reckoning or a long look back at the movies we saw in theaters in 2025.

You know, it’s the episodes we survived, and the moments that made us laugh, wince, or briefly question why we started a podcast in the first place. We sift through the year like raccoons in an alleyway dumpster, deciding what deserves our very particular brand of awards and which episodes were pure joy versus those that felt like emotional endurance tests.

Naturally, we do not traffic in sensible trophies. Instead, we hand out honors for things like the grossest scene of the year, the sexiest film, the best horror movie, the most unexpectedly tender cinematic moment, and, because some traditions must be protected, Bryan’s Best Nudity Award, which in 2025 turned out to be, somewhat impressively, an entire symposium on penis.

We also debate which 2025 release we actually covered on the show (the answer may cause you to clutch your pearls) and crown our first-ever Guest of the Year, an honor reserved for someone who brings equal parts chaos, intelligence, and love of movies. That inaugural trophy goes to the endlessly sharp Kristi Shimek, whose multiple guest appearances made us smarter, funnier, and only slightly more unhinged. Congratulations, Kristi. Listen everywhere you get your podcasts, and please, wash your hands after handling the awards.
