Film Review: ‘Rampage’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 11th, 2018

There really isn’t any point in denying that Dwayne The Rock Johnson is the biggest movie star in Hollywood right now, but he might also be the best. Nobody, except early Will Smith, can star in, sell, and market a movie the way he can. His power to entertain audiences with ridiculous premises is undeniable. Rampage is stupid, big, and insane, but it’s also obnoxiously entertaining and a joy to watch.

Hey guys, Jana here,

rampage1

Remember the arcade game from the mid-80’s called ‘Rampage‘? You know, the one that let 3 people play at once, each being a different giant monster that terrorized a city with the clever thought of “Smash. Bash. Trash?” Well, it’s being re-tooled for the big screen by New Line and producer Beau Flynn, part of the team who made the recent hit, ‘San Andreas‘.

Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Halloween’ 2018!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 21st, 2018

The original Halloween is barred none the best of the slasher genre. It is a simple story, a young boy kills his sister and is put in a mental institution, 16 years later he breaks out and goes on a rampage murdering people on Halloween. Michael Myers is terrifying in a way that Jason or Freddy isn’t. He feels more “realistic” in his behaviors in the first movie. Michael is just an unstoppable force of death who Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) runs in to. All of the sequels to Halloween try too hard to explain things or add significance. Sure, there are some fun entries that with the right amount of inebriation are quick fun. But ultimately they all abandon what was so great about the first, its simplicity. Halloween, 2018, erases all of the sequels in just 3-4 lines of dialogue and goes right back to the roots of what made the original such a groundbreaking horror film.

Justifying the Female Villain: An Essay by Tuesday Shank!

Justifying the Female Villain

By Tuesday Shank

(Find Tuesday Shank on Twitter and Instagram!)

I stumbled through my college career. After the better part of six years, I began my work on my senior thesis. I undertook the easiest thesis I could think for myself to do: analyze a television show. My advisor’s academic expertise was gender studies. As a fan of Joss Whedon, I knew of Joss Whedon’s reputation for feminist characters and decided to use my thesis to sing Whedon’s praises.

Thus, I began my work on “Careful Jayne, You’ll Scare the Women: An Analysis of Gender Representations in the Television Show, Firefly”. I watched Firefly enough that I’m still not eager to see it again. Halfway through the semester, I just wanted to watch anything else.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

You just can’t keep Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio away from each other. The two are prepping a new film that is based on the true crime thriller ‘Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI‘ by author David Grann. This insane true story is set in the 1920s where the members of the Osage nation in Oklahoma were brutally killed after someone discovered oil beneath their land. This went on for a while as a serial murder rampage, which was one of the first big cases the FBI investigated.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

In what looks like to be the BEST film of the year, ‘The Marine‘ is on its 5th installment, which is headed direct to Blu-ray and DVD on April 25th, but will be available for HD streaming on March 28th. The first ‘Marine‘ film came out eleven years ago in 2006 and starred John Cena as a marine who gives the Attitude Adjustment to terrorists. Solid gold entertainment, Jerry. Solid gold. That first film cost $15 million, but only made $22 million at the box office. I guess that was enough to have WWE Studios create a franchise, which now we are on Part 5 with Mike ‘The Miz‘ as Cena’s replacement.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…..

Malignant-Man

Fox and Boom! Studios have partnered up to bring ‘Malignant Man‘ to the big screen with Brad Peyton  directing and James Wan producing. Peyton recently directed ‘San Andreas‘ with The Rock and is doing the sequel and the upcoming ‘Rampage‘ film too with (you guessed it) The Rock. And we all know Wan is the horror master who just released ‘Conjuring 2‘, so thus far, this has a solid team behind it.

I think Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is going for a world record to star in the most movies ever, because he has signed on to star in yet another film. It’s really not shocking that it will be a big budget action-movie, but this one will be set in China and be called ‘Skyscraper‘.
