4K UHD Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
THE FILM
First off, my favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe film is ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. I love the weird, oddball, and sometimes anti-hero characters so much, the dialogue, and the feel of the whole movie, that I really connected to it and enjoyed it on every level. This group of heroes are not the norm and I relish in all their conflicts, endearing moments, and witty banter. That brings us to Vol. 2 that reunites all of our favorite characters as they go on missions to save the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is coming to 4K UHD!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
I can’t believe it’s finally happening. Disney is releasing their first 4K UHD release with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which couldn’t be a more perfect debut release in the new format. Disney has been holding out for a while now, while other studios have been releasing their new and vintage films in 4K. It was only a matter of time. There will be Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos included on the release as well, along with quite a few fun bonus features. You’ll be able to watch the film on digital platforms, starting August 8th, and purchase the actual 4K UHD Disc on August 22nd. So now I’m impatiently waiting for Disney to start announcing some vintage vault films and shows, re-releasing in 4K UHD. It’s only a matter of time, but expect my wallet to dwindle down with the following announcements.
Dan Moran’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Review!
Dan M., here…..
I love the first Guardians of the Galaxy. That movie is a blast and despite the typical Marvel villain issue, it is just a completely enjoyable movie start to finish. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues where the first one left off and despite not being as great as the first one, it is still a worthy sequel that is a blast for the entire run time.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Has a New Trailer!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
It’s getting close to the release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ and to celebrate that, we have a brand new trailer. It’s a good trailer, however, I think it gives quite a bit away in it. That being said, I trust James Gunn fully and know he will have some shocks and surprises throughout.
Media-Ocrity Ep. 24 – Sitcoms, Road Trips, Luke Cage, Guardians of The Galaxy’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
We have an incredible 23rd episode of our fun podcast under the MULTI-MEDIA MEN banner called ‘Media-Ocrity‘, where the show is just – okay. Here on the show, we focus strictly on horror/sci-fi, comic books, and video games – basically all the fun stuff that tickles your fancy. In our twenty-third episode, titled ‘The Road Trip with Luke Cage and Sitcoms‘, we discuss some of the BEST sitcoms with laugh tracks, trailer for the latest big films, Luke Cage season 2, road trip movies, and Atterbury’s soul is destroyed, because nobody likes ‘FRIENDS‘. Also, we have our fourth installment of the Kevin Hart/The Rock movie pitch, which was so good this time.

Nathan Fillion Cameo In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Is WONDERful!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
I am passionate about a lot of different things. This bit of news combines two of those loves – Nathan Fillion and comic books, more specifically, comic book movies. If you combine the gorgeous Captain Mal or Hammer, whichever you choose, with the Marvel universe you get a very particular response – ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘!! **Warning kids – Spoilers Ahead**
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2’ Enlists New Cast Members Including Kurt Russell!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ promises to be every bit as much an awesome ride as its predecessor. We’ve got a new mix tape our heroes will be kicking ass, and dancing, to. The first soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy, so this one has to up the ante. Plus new cast members including one suave, charming dude that wasn’t at all shy about kicking a chick’s ass in ‘The Hateful Eight‘, that’s right – Kurt Russell. Who are the others new cast members you ask, I’ve got the details after the jump.
Check Out The Sneak Peek For Disney XD’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Series!!!

Hey guys, Jana here,
One of the hottest films of the summer is sure to be one of the most asked for Blu-ray’s this Christmas! ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ takes us into new corners of the Marvel Universe with bold space adventurer Peter Quill steals an extremely rare and valuable orb that becomes the focus of a dogged bounty hunt. In order to run from his enemies, Quill forges an unlikely and uneasy truce with Rocket, a gun-crazy raccoon; Groot, a tree-like strongman with low verbal skills, a deadly assassin named Gamora and Drax who is focused mainly on revenge. Once the true power of the orb is discovered, the unlikely band of heroes comes together in a final battle that will decide the fate of the whole galaxy.
Hillary’s Review of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’!!
Hillary T., Here…
I was waiting for this screening, I’m not going to lie. I was excited to see if the movie was going to live up to the hype! I mean, James Gunn, an all star cast, a killer soundtrack, Marvel? Could it do it? Guardians of the Galaxy did! From start to finish this is an action packed movie! It opens with Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt’s) back story. 1980’s.
Film Review: Guardians of the Galaxy’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
Since Marvel became their own movie studio back in 2008 with the first ‘Iron Man‘ movie, they have quickly become one of the most lucrative movie studios in Hollywood in less than ten years. With films like ‘Iron Man‘, ‘Thor‘, ‘Captain America‘, ‘Hulk‘, and the billion dollar blockbuster ‘The Avengers‘, you can see why so many people stand in line for hours on end to see the top visual effects, greatest actors, and the fun and thrilling story lines for their favorite superheroes. And of course we all know that Marvel is now famous for connecting each of their films with cameos of heroes from other movies and those exciting end credit sequences after each of their films.
Enjoy the New Trailer for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Here’s The Amazing ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Trailer!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
We’ve been hearing about this film for a while now. This is Marvel’s new epic film in the whole superhero franchise. We saw a tease to this film at the end of ‘Thor: The Dark World‘ earlier last year. It’s where we saw Benicio Del Toro doing something sinister. James Gunn (Slither & Super) is directing. If you are unfamiliar with the story, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.
Benicio Del Toro Joins ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Good news, everyone. Benicio Del Toro is gonna flip people for real in the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film from Marvel Studios. Director James Gunn and the studio are keeping things tightly under wraps as far as his role goes, but his character is being built for future Marvel movies. Yes, that means he might be in the upcoming ‘Avengers 2‘ film.
Chris Pratt Will Lead the Getting ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
It’s official. Chris Pratt will play Star-Lord or Peter Quill in Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, directed by James Gunn. Pratt starred in ‘Moneyball‘, ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘, ‘Parks and Rec‘, and ‘Movie 43‘, amongst others. Star-Lord is the leader of the Guardians who is actually the offspring of a human and alien. There were tons of big names courted for this role including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but it went to Pratt.
Comic-Con 2012!! Marvel Unveils ‘Thor’, ‘Captain America’ Sequels, Plus ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Marvel had a busy day today at Comic-Con. Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Film Studios) confirmed today that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will be released August 1, 2014. Also, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) have finished writing ‘Ant-Man’ and have filmed some test footage which they showed the crowd at Comic-Con. Needless to say the crowd went ape-shit. Wright said, Ant-Man is a tiny guy who kicks ass one inch at a time.
Film Review: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!
For the last decade, we’ve been getting to know most of the Marvel super-heroes. In 2008, we met Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when the comic book company Marvel decided to start making their own films with their own company, without the help of any other big studio. It was a massive success, which led to 17 more films that included a ton of more superheroes, including Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For the first few superhero films, we were introduced to their origins and character, which led to the first Avengers films. Needless to say, that first Avengers movie broke box office records at the time and put in motion a story arc that culminates into what we have today – ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘.
4K UHD Review: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!
THE FILM
Thor is starring in his third stand-alone film called ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ and brings a much needed change to the character in the best possibly way. Thor now has a fun personality and great comedic timing, mostly due to Chris Hemsworth amazing acting chops here. In addition to that, the film is steeped in a hypnotic, yet hyper-active color scheme that looks like Willy Wonka and Andy Warhol got together and decorated a city. In fact, Wonka’s theme ‘Pure Imagination’ is a song that plays in the film. It’s not all cold and stiff dialogue here anymore with brown or earth toned aliens and robots that Thor has to use his hammer to fight. Everyone and everything is covered in bright primary and pastel colors that creates a breath of fresh air in this stale universe. That’s all thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi for giving his unique vision on this big budget film ($180 million). In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, particularly with Thor, things have been sour and gloomy.
Top 10 Moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Thus Far!
Black Panther is debuting very soon and in 3 short months, we will witness Infinity War on the big screen, which is the culmination of all 18 Marvel movies that came before it. I love the Marvel movies, at a minimum they get how to entertain and present their characters in the most appealing way possible. I’m sure that Black Panther will have an incredible moment or two and without a doubt the spectacle that Infinity War HAS to be will present us with some memorable scenes. Until then I figured I would share my 10 Favorite Moments from the MCU so far.
‘Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures: Season 2’ Releases To DVD!!!
Dan Moran’s Favorite Movie Moments from 2017!
This isn’t a Top 10 List. I have a few more movies to check off before I can make that list but I wanted to share some of the moments that wowed me on screen this year.
BEWARE OF SPOILERS!

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…
Oh, we got fun…and the game! Coaxing and soaring over the tails of its predecessor, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will rock your world. In 1995, Jumanji, centered on a board game, turned a home and a city inside out with adventure stampeding over the bounds of the silver screen. Picking up from where the first film left off, the board game is found on a beach. Jumanji ensnares new victims, so let the ride begin. Read the rest of this entry »

Check Out The Awesome Trailer For ‘Avengers: Infinity War’!
Hey guys, Jana here,
The Avengers are back and they’ve brought a few friends. The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe packs the star-power in like gunpowder to a bomb making it ready to ignite a powder keg of awesome to kick off the summer. The usual suspects have all returned, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey, Jr., and Jeremy Renner. But there is room for more awesome, and we get it with the addition of Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, and Zoe Saldana from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and far too many to mention to round out one kick-ass movie, or at least that’s what the trailer leads us to expect. We can’t forget to mention that Josh Brolin’s Thanos is back and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, the Infinity Stones.
‘IT’ is coming to 4K UHD on January 9th!
In one of my most anticipated 4K UHD releases, ‘IT‘ will be available on January 9th in physical form and on Digital HD December 19th. Below is all the information for the release.

Disney is releasing ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ on 4K UHD!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
It looks like Disney is releasing more in 4K UHD since they announced their first 4K release with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the other day. I expect the flood gates to open up real soon, which means, Pixar, 2D animated classics, Marvel, and LucasFilm releases will be coming out in 4K. Bittersweet news, I know. Sweet, because it will look amazing in 4K finally. Bitter, because the wallet will take a big hit. Expect to purchase the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales‘ in 4K UHD on October 3rd with the digital version releasing on September 19th.
Film Review #2: Baby Driver!
Dan M., here….
Baby Driver is a complicated movie to review. First of all, let me say, I really enjoyed it start to finish. It felt fresh, the performances were great, and the driving sequences were awesome. I find it complicated because not one thing that happened in the movie surprised me. There wasn’t one twist, one character turn, one motivation, or one general plot point that you haven’t seen executed in 30 other movies. The way it was shot or executed felt new at times but the plot was familiar and in a movie that felt so fresh it was weird that from a story stand point it was made of old recycled goods.
Going in Style Comes to Blu-ray!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
Zach Braff’s heist comedy is coming to Blu-ray and Digital HD very soon. This is the remake of the 1979 film of the same name, but updated to modern times with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Alan Arkin, where the three men rob a bank. You’ll be able to purchase this film digitally on July 11th and own the Blu-ray Disc on August 1st. The details and bonus features are listed below.

Interview with Matthias Hoene for ‘Enter the Warriors Gate’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
I had the pleasure to talk with the the fantastic filmmaker Matthias Hoene and discuss his most recent film ‘Enter the Warriors Gate‘. We talk about shooting on location, the wide diverse cast and crew, working with Dave Bautista, horror films, and some of his favorite scenes from film. It was a great and fun conversation.
Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum Bring The Funny In Amazon Series!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Amazon is continuing to make strides in their original comedy series offerings. Amazon is not new to the comedy game with strong foot holds in the genre with original hits like ‘Transparent‘, ‘Mozart In The Jungle‘, ‘One Mississippi‘, and ‘Catastrophe‘. These just aren’t fan favorites, but have been lauded by critics and their peers as well with Golden Globe and Emmy awards. For the new comedy, there were two names that propelled Amazon into action: Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Doctor Strange’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
The next franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes with mystical and magical powers in ‘Doctor Strange‘, which is a damn good start to this new character. ‘Doctor Strange‘ was created by Steve Ditko and first appeared in Strange Tales #110 back in 1963. ‘Doctor Strange‘ or Stephen Strange is a highly intelligent surgeon who is in the top of his field. In an accident, he loses the use of his hands, which leads him to seek out alternate methods of healing. This brings him to a mystical and magical place across the globe where he meets ‘The Ancient One’ amongst other sorcerers that help him heal spiritually and physically.
4K UHD Review: ‘Suicide Squad’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
There seems to be a good movie hidden somewhere in ‘Suicide Squad‘, but the film itself makes it nearly impossible for you to find where those good moments are. The film is its own worst enemy, because it promises something new and fresh in the first dozen or so minutes, but then nose dives into the mountain from there on out. This is certainly writer/director David Ayer’s most ambitious project and I can’t tell if it’s his mistake or the collection of DC/Warner Bros. executives who forced the notes on him to make this film not succeed, because again, the first part of the movie gathers your hopes up for something fun. Ayer wrote ‘Training Day‘ and ‘U-571‘, then transitioned into directing with ‘End of Watch‘ and ‘Fury‘, which were both new and fresh takes on tired genres. I was hoping that Ayer could breathe new life and put the DC Comic movie franchise on the right track, but alas, that is not the case.
We’ve Got The First Teaser For ‘The Belko Experiment’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Director Greg McLean (‘Wolf Creek‘, ‘Rogue‘) has taken a script from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ writer director James Gunn and worked with a crew, including a few of Gunn-faithfuls to bring ‘The Belko Experiment‘ to life.
Michael Keaton Joins ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ As Vulture!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Is there anything Michael Keaton can’t do?! The answer to that question is “No”. Ok, he couldn’t exactly carry and birth a pack of puppies (without surgical help), but I’d like to think even Keaton could overcome that one if he wanted it bad enough. One thing he’s not done with is being super. As the first Batman I fell in love with he’ll always be the bat to me, but it looks like he’s ready to move to the villainous side of the comic book coin, he’s signed on to appear as Vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘.
The First Peek At ‘Logan’ Is Amazing!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
On the heels of the new ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘ teaser that released yesterday, comes the first look at ‘Logan‘! Director James Mangold worked with the Wolverine character in the past with 2013’s ‘The Wolverine‘ and has returned to bring the story home with the Old Man Logan story line. Hugh Jackman is back for the last time as the titular character along with Patrick Stewart. Other cast members include Boyd Holbrook, Doris Morgado, Sienna Novikov, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Stephen Merchant. Check out Merchant’s first peek as Caliban, an albino mutant.
Wizard World Will Land In Austin, TX in Two Weeks!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
If you’re among the super fans in Texas, you’re going to want to be at Wizard World Comic Con in Austin!!! The event will be attended by tens of thousands of fans from all over as pop culture is being celebrated in dozens of forms, from movies, comics, toys, video gaming, games, TV, anime, manga, horror, wrestling, to MMA and anything else that falls in between. Oh the cosplay, did I mention how much cosplay there will be?! The fun starts September 23 and wraps up September 25. The countdown is on – 9 days 20 hours and counting.
‘Jumanji 2’ Casts Karen Gillan In Clutch Role!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Sony’s sequel to 1995’s ‘Jumanji‘ just cast the clutch character, Martha, with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ and ‘Doctor Who‘ alum Karen Gillan. Director Jake Kasdan (‘Bad Teacher‘) went through an extensive search that included many A-list names before deciding on Gillan.
See Pennywise in Full Costume For The Upcoming ‘IT’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
The ‘It‘ reboot is in full swing of things and we’d been given a peek at the titular monster a while back. Now, we get the full picture of Pennywise, aka Bill Skarsgard, in full costume. When you look at him, you can see the influences from different time periods in the costume, which makes sense as he’s an ancient terror that’s been eating children for centuries.

The MCU Has Found Their Captain Marvel In Brie Larson!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
We’ve known that Marvel Studios has been planning a ‘Captain Marvel‘ film for a while but now, we have an idea of who she might be. Brie Larson is the front-runner and has been in serious talks with the studio. She’s the best candidate, outshining previous contenders Emily Blunt and Olivia Wilde.
Dave Bautista Signs Onto ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Dave Bautista has made a name for himself in a few galaxies. One of them being the WWE Universe where he kicked ass all over the place, while another one being the film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ where he played Drax. Where ever you know him from, one thing is certain, the man has a palpable presence on-screen. I’d bet this is part of the reason he has been chosen for a high-profile sequel, and I’m not talking about his part in Guardians 2, this time it’s for ‘Blade Runner‘.
When Is It Coming Out?! From Cars 3 to Terminator!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
When is it coming out?! It’s a common phrase that is heard when the topic of discussion turns to much anticipated movies that are mapped out for the next few years. From ‘Star Wars VIII‘ to ‘Cars 3‘, and what’s going on with the ‘Terminator‘ franchise? I will reveal all after the jump.
We’ve Got The ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Trailer You Want To See!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
So here’s the new trailer for ‘Star Trek Beyond‘ from director Justin Lin. Trekkies appear to have mixed thoughts on the new trailer. For one thing, you can tell it’s directed by someone new because there is a definite ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘/’Fast and the Furious‘ feel to it and absolutely ZERO lens flares!
Vin Diesel Revealed Big News About A New Riddick Movie and Series!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
What do we know about Vin Diesel? We know he’s an avid ‘Dungeons and Dragons‘ player of over 24 years, he might have been ‘Daredevil‘ had he accepted before it was passed on to Ben Affleck, once upon a time he even did a promotional video on….how to break dance! We also know a bit more about the actor now that he’s announced ‘Riddick 4′ in addition to a spinoff turned TV series!
Could ‘The Gunslinger’ Actually Be Happening?! Matthew McConaughey Circling Role!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
‘The Dark Tower‘. The title is enough to make Stephen King fans, directors, actors and Hollywood as a whole hold their breath waiting to see which direction the next bit of news will be taking our emotions. Definitely with good reason, since the series of books has been attempted, many times over, to be cut into slices manageable enough for the big screen, it’s difficult because that novel series is a mammoth undertaking.

Film Review: ‘Ant-Man’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues this summer of 2015 with ‘Ant-Man‘, which is a lesser known character and storyline than the usual big Avenger characters. This is a film that i’ve looked forward to for a few years now, because the story of ‘Ant-Man‘ and his abilities are very cool. When I had my comic book store, I actually had the first five issues of ‘Ant-Man‘ ever. I really dug those comics. Imagine how excited I was when news broke that director Edgar Wright signed on to write and direct the film.
Ant-Man and Black Panther Make Appearance in Captain America 2!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
So it begins. Marvel Studios has gotten underway with principal photography in Atlanta, GA on ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. In addition to the superhero cast we’ve expected from the new Cap film we’re still getting a few surprise announcements.
Check Out The Trailer For Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Marvel and Disney have the goose that lays golden eggs with their collaborations on comic movies, no one can deny the success of ‘The Avengers‘ or ‘Captain America‘, not to mention ‘Iron Man‘ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. So it was a safe gamble to move forward with the lesser known ‘Ant-Man‘, and the fan excitement for the film shows it was a good choice.
Oscars: Here are My Oscar Predictions for the 87th Academy Awards!!

Again, we will be delivering a live commentary full of jokes, trivia, facts, winners, losers, and giving away free gifts throughout the night. So please, keep it right here during the Oscars and use the hashtag #boomstickcomics when posting to social media. But, let’s talk about predictions for a minute. I’m sure some of you have put some money down on Oscar pools at works or with your friends to see who comes out the winner this year. There were some excellent movies this year along with some amazing performances, so needless to say, this year will be extremely difficult to predict.
Comic Con: Dallas Fan Days 2015 – The Cosplay!!
Hillary T., Here…
This weekend, at Fan Days 2.0, Taylor and I spent a great deal of time watching and loving all of the fabulous cosplay. There was so much of it- Black Cat (Krystle Starr looked amazing!), Flash(there was an entire family!), Arrow, Arsenal, Lego Hulk (this was genius), Captain Marvel- I could go on! People brought it out, in full force, and it was on point.
Will Chris Pratt Play ‘Indiana Jones’?

Chris Pratt is having one hell of a year. The talented funny actor, mostly known for his role on ‘Parks and Rec‘, hit superstar status a the lead in James Gunn’s Marvel film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. Here he proved he was meant for the big time. Since then, he is starring in the 4th ‘Jurassic Park‘ film and a revamp of ‘The Magnificent Seven‘ with Denzel Washington.

2015 Disney Film Release Dates With Trailers!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!
Bryan’s Best and Worst of 2014 List!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2014 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2014 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2014 with some added categories down at the bottom. I believe this year I watched over 145 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some chocolate snacks covered in marshmallow cream, I finally had a TOP 10. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.
Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.
‘Jurassic Park’ Has Teased Us with a Tease for the Teaser!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Prehistoric dinosaurs have been extinct and that’s the way most of us feel they should stay. In 1993’s ‘Jurassic Park‘ we saw cloning pioneer John Hammond not only pursuing the knowledge to create many long-dead species, but to turn it into an amusement park. We all know how that first run ended. Twenty-Two years later, ‘Jurassic World‘ is open for business.
Michael Rooker’s Fan Q&A Panel From Tulsa Comic Con!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
I had the opportunity to sit in on Michael Rooker’s fan Q&A panel at Tulsa’s premier of Wizard World Comic Con. Rooker is a megastar right now with his characterization of Merle Dixon in AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ and as Yondu from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. When Rooker took the stage that evening, he looked every bit the movie star we know he is.
Marvel Confirms Rumors About Third Phase of Cinematic Universe Dates!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Marvel made an announcement today, actually several announcements, about the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve all been hearing rumors about upcoming projects but nothing has been verified until today. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage to lay out a timeline for their next few films.
In the category of we-all-knew-it-would-happen-eventually Marvel is paving the way for an epic battle between Captain America and Iron Man with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr will reprise their previous roles and Chadwick Boseman will make his first appearance as the Black Panther. Cap’s Civil War hits big screens on May 6, 2016.
‘Ant-Man’ Begins Production and Fills Out Cast!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Today marks the beginning of filming for Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’. It has been a winding road getting to this point though. There has been a change in director and the loss of 3 cast-members due to scheduling issues because of delays. Some of us probably thought it would be a miracle of Marvel proportions if it were to ever make it to the big screen. Some of the reason for doubt stems from the fact that original director Edgar Wright had been working on bringing the 2D superhero to life since 2006 with very limited success.
Sequel to TMNT Announced!!!
Hey everyone, Jana here,
I get so sad for the future of American film some days. This film is a perfect case-in-point. First off, we had to know that once Michael Bay got his hands on the film rights to one of my childhood favorites, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘, that regular rules of paying respect, homage, or even a gentle nod to their beginnings as a comic book was a long shot. I think the first warning of potential trouble had to come when we saw Bay was involved. Most people would think well, he’s just a producer and not going to direct and be such a vital part of the final product. Those people would be wrong.
Film Review: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
It has been 21 years since we’ve had a ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ live action movie in theaters. In 2007, there was a CG animated ‘TMNT‘ film, which was actually quite good. And of course there have been the comic and two different animated series. And now we have a complete reboot of the entire franchise in live action form from Jonathan Libesman (the guy who directed ‘Wrath of the Titans‘ and ‘Battle Los Angeles‘). You can add to that so-called talent the worst filmmaker to ever come out of Hollywood, Michael Bay (‘Armageddon‘) as a hands on producer. The sad thing about this reboot is that it has tons of potential to be a great film. A really great film. But everything went wrong everywhere with the movie, and poor decisions were made, and now we have a steaming pile of shit for a film that could have run with the best of the Marvel Comic book films.
Sony Plans To Make Female-Driven Superhero Movie!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
It would seem the collective consensus thinks the film-watching world is ready for a female driven superhero movie. I’m not so sure about the idea. Sure, it’s a hot time for leading ladies, but we can’t forget the horrors of the past that quickly. Of course I’m talking about the two names most synonymous with crappy female superhero movie attempts – Halle Berry’s ‘Catwoman‘ and ‘Elektra‘ starring Jennifer Garner. The films were poorly written and the leads were unable to connect the acting with the characters. Maybe it’s the Marvel blood in Berry’s excellent portrayal of Sue Storm in the ‘X-Men’ series that rejected the DC infusion. Regardless of the reasons, there were no attempts to create more (thank God).
Michael Caine Cast In ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ with Vin Diesel!!!
Hi all, Jana here,
Vin Diesel has been giving the press a little sneak peek during his promotion of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. Diesel mentioned that a certain actor was going to join the cast on ‘The Last Witch Hunter‘. Lionsgate has confirmed that Michael Caine has officially joined the Breck Eisner (‘The Crazies‘, ‘The Sahara‘) directed ‘The Last Witch Hunter’.
Josh Brolin Will Play Thanos for Marvel!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
That’s right. Actor Josh Brolin has been signed on to play the big bad villain in the next few Marvel movies, Thanos. Thanos was the the purple guy in space seen at the end credit scene in the first ‘Avengers‘ film. And now the guy who played Brand, the older brother in ‘The Goonies‘ will play him. This is excellent news.
‘Walking Dead’ Alums Tackle New Project!!!
Jana B. here,
Robert Kirkman has mastered comics and television with ‘The Walking Dead‘, also gaining a great working relationship with Dead’s own Daryl Dixon – Norman Reedus. The two have teamed on a feature film titled ‘Air‘. Reedus and Djimon Hounsou will star and Kirkman will produce the sci-fi thriller.
Zoe Saldana Cast as Rosemary in NBC’s ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ Remake!!!
Hi, Bryan Here…
Zoe Saldana has been cast in NBC’s four-hour miniseries “Rosemary’s Baby,” an adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin. Saldana will play Rosemary, the iconic young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a darkly storied past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.
Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Reuniting for New Film, ‘Devil’s Night’!!
Jana B., Here….
I love a good buddy movie and won’t even pretend that I don’t. That being said, I loved Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly teaming up in Step Brothers! Needless to say, this news about a new film from Sony and Ferrell’s joint company, Gary Sanchez Productions, with Adam McKay, got me excited for what this movie will have in store. Sony is remembering that sweet payday that Step Brothers brought them when it earned $100 million in domestic box office sales, I’m sure. Devil’s Night is the name of this potential comedy gold. If that name doesn’t evoke memories from movies like The Crow and Grosse Pointe Blank, well you just haven’t been paying attention.
Check Which Superheroes Will Be Getting the Big Screen Treatment For Marvel!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Marvel Studios has not let up one bit with prepping new films for more characters in their universe. We do know that we will be getting a treasure trove of new superhero films over the next few years, which will lead up to ‘The Avengers 2‘ in 2015, which Marvel is calling Phase Two. I guess Phase One started with the first ‘Iron Man‘ and ended with ‘The Avengers‘.
Film Review #2 ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’!
Dan M., here….
I realize that I am late on this one. I was out of town when it came out and frankly, there were just higher movies on the list I needed to see. Well I got to see King Arthur: Legend of the Sword finally and let me tell you… it is really good. Out of every summer movie this year that I have seen, including Fate of the Furious and Guardians Vol. 2, I left the theater thinking about a sequel to King Arthur the most.
Jean Claude Van Damme Returning To ‘Kickboxer’?!?!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Jean-Claude Van Damme is heading back to his roots. Well, at least as far back as 1989’s ‘Kickboxer‘. Van Damme starred as Kurt Sloan, the corner-man for his brother and U.S. kickboxing champion, Eric Sloan. Kurt witnesses Eric’s intentional paralyzation in the ring by Thailand champ Tong Po. Of course, Kurt vows revenge, as any good brother should. He finds a trainer, Zion, and meets Tong Po in the ring for the fight of his life. My favorite thing about this film, was a very young Van Damme, and the name Tong Po. The name is just fun to say. Tong Po!
Bryan Takes On The ‘Challenge of the Gobots’ DVD!!! (A Review)
Hi Bryan Here….
Oh GoBots. You will always hold a special place in my heart. You are like the HD-DVD to bluray. Gone too soon. In Kevin Smith’s ‘Clerks 2, Jason Lee’s character Lance Dowds references the Gobots as the “K-Mart” of Transformers. This is very true. In every way, shape, and form, the Transformers have outsold and outdone the Gobots. And the Gobots were first on the scene one year before Transformers ever were. There are tons of similarities between the two universes. For instance, Gobots came from Gobotron and a year later the Transformers came from Cybertron. But even the Gobots with their generic brand, it is still a good cartoon by the great team of Hanna-Barbera and quite fun.
