Hi, Bryan Here….

Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone will fight each other in ‘Grudge Match’ for Warner Bros.  Kevin Hart will play the fight promoter who retrieves these two old and retired boxers to step in the ring one last time.  Peter Segal will direct with ‘Entourage’ creator Doug Ellin working on a the latest draft of the script.  So Balboa vs. La Motta, huh?  Not sure whether to laugh or be excited about this.  I just hope the tagline is, “No matter who wins, we all lose.”

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Good news and bad news, folks. The good news is that Fox is releasing two amazing TV Shows for their Anniversary  on September 19th, being Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly from Joss Whedon. There will be new packaging and collectibles with each set. The bad news is that there still isn’t and won’t be a Blu-ray or high definition version of Buffy, which just sucks and drives a stake right through my heart. This show looks terrible and is in badly need of an HD upgrade.

Jean Claude Van Damme Returning To ‘Kickboxer’?!?!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 1st, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Jean-Claude Van Damme is heading back to his roots. Well, at least as far back as 1989’s ‘Kickboxer‘. Van Damme starred as Kurt Sloan, the corner-man for his brother and U.S. kickboxing champion, Eric Sloan. Kurt witnesses Eric’s intentional paralyzation in the ring by Thailand champ Tong Po. Of course, Kurt vows revenge, as any good brother should. He finds a trainer, Zion, and meets Tong Po in the ring for the fight of his life. My favorite thing about this film, was a very young Van Damme, and the name Tong Po. The name is just fun to say. Tong Po!

It is 8 LPs of sheer 180g awesomeness, and if you don’t believe me, pick up a copy and see for yourself!

The Jimi Hendrix ‘Winterland’ box set hit the streets yesterday, and Amazon definitely has the best deal in town. Originally priced at $100 before its release you can now pick up this gem for about $60 if you act now!!! This price won’t last long!!! Dude, think about it…that’s like buying two records at an Indie store and getting the other six LPs for free. Hell yes. But wait, there’s more! By ordering from Amazon you will also receive an exclusive CD with additional unreleased material, which sounds incredible all on its own.

What is more criminal? This steal of the price or the fact these brilliantly sounding gems have been hidden away from the public all these years?!? It’s time your ears hear this material at a price that would even make your accountant happy. However, if vinyl isn’t your thing (and shame on you if it isn’t) the CD version is available at a great price, too.

Weekend Box Office Roundup

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2010

I can’t believe October is already here.  This year has been going by fast.

Well everone’s favorite social network Facebook is on top this week.

Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Network” was #1 at the box office this weekend.  It brought in $23 million dollars.  It’s budget was double that.  So it has a ways to go.

Staying at the #2 spot this week is the cgi animated film “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”.  It brought in almost $!1 million dollars bringing its two week total to at little of $30 million dollars.

The Wall Street sequel dropped from #1 to the #3 spot this week bringing in $10.1 million dollars for a combined two week total of $35.8 million dollars.

Ben Affleck’s “The Town” dropped down one spot to #4.  It brought in $10 million.

Easy A dropped down 1 spot as well to the #5 spot bringing in $7 million.

The Renee Zellweger thriller, “Case 39” opened up at the #7 spot bringing in only $5.3 million dollars.  The premise of this movie looks amazing, but I do not think it was marketed well.

The remake of one of the best vampire films EVER, “Let Me In” opened in at #8 bringing in $5.3 million dollars.  GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

For the first time since its opening, “Inception” drops out of the top 10 list and goes to #12.  It brought in less than 1 million dollars this week.  It is going on its 13th week in release.

That’s it for this time.  Stay tuned for next weekend.

The crown jewel of Legacy Recordings’ monumental Jimi Hendrix catalog project, West Coast Seattle Boy – The Jimi Hendrix Anthology is the first Hendrix collection to bring fans access to a comprehensive treasure trove of previously unreleased recordings — including demos, alternate takes, live concert jewels and more — from all phases of the artist’s recording career (1964 -1970).

West Coast Seattle Boy – The Jimi Hendrix Anthology offers the most complete collection of Jimi’s pre-Experience R&B performances (including his singles with the Isley Brothers, Little Richard, Don Covay, King Curtis and more) to ever be officially anthologized while bringing together the most comprehensive and revelatory set of unreleased, fully realized songs, never before heard live performances, alternate studio takes, acoustic and electric demos and other rarities drawn from every chapter of Jimi Hendrix remarkable life and career.

West Coast Seattle Boy – The Jimi Hendrix Anthology includes the 90 minute DVD Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child, a new documentary directed by the Grammy award winning Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology, Festival Express, Beatles: The Studio Recordings). The acclaimed documentary tells Jimi’s incredible story in his own words. The documentary features some of Jimi’s greatest performances as well as rare and never before seen footage and photos. Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child also includes–for the first time ever—examples from the Hendrix family archive of the late guitarist’s personal drawings, postcards home to his father, song drafts, sketches, and lyrics. Jimi’s interviews and private writings shed new insights within the extraordinary life and career of the greatest guitarist of all time.

Movie Box Office Weekend Roundup

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2010

Ben Affleck is on top again at the box office.  His movie “The Town: starring himself and John Hamm from the AMC series “Mad Men” is number 1 at the box office this weekend bringing in almost $24 million dollars.

Coming in at number 2 is the teen comedy “Easy A”.  This movie is loosely based on the classic novel “The Scarlet Letter”.  It brought in a little over $18 million dollars.  It only had a budget of $8 million.  So kudos there.  Read Cowdefender’s review HERE.

At number 3 is the M. Night Shyamalan film “Devil” bringing in a little over $12.5 million dollars.  This is the first in  series of films thought up by M. Night Shyamlan who other people write and direct.  Supposed to be a creepy film.  Read Cowdefender’s review HERE.

Resident Evil: Afterlife went from the top spot last week to number 4 this week bringing in $10 million for a combined two week total of $44 million dollars.

George Clooney’s “The American” went from the number 3 spot to the number 7 spot this week bringing in about $2.7 million dollars for a combined three week total of  about $32.8 million dollars.

In a surprising movie, the blockbuster hit “Inception” went from being number 10 last week to number 8 this week bringing in a little over $2 million dollars for a combined 10 week total of a little over $285 million dollars.

Machete came in at number 10 bringing in $1.7 million dollars for a combined 3 weeke total of about $25 million dollars which has surpassed its budget.  Hopefully this means sequel.

Also something to note is Sly Stallone’s “The Expendables”.  It came in at number 12 bringing in $1.4 million dollars for a combined 6 week total of $101 million dollars.  That is an uber violent rated “R” film bringing in that much money.  Kudos Sly.  Kudos.

That’s it for this week.  Stay tuned for next weekend.

X-BOX LIVE raising their subscription prices.

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 30th, 2010

X-BOX LIVE raising their subscription prices.

Yes, I just received an email from X-BOX informing me that they are increasing subscription prices for Gold Level membership to their X-BOX live subscription by $10.00.  Now it will be $60.00 per year rather than $50.00 per year.

So it will be roughly $5.00 a month now starting in November.  Not a huge hike up but still, more money.

I read further into this and was informed of some new changes and upgrades such as: ESPN will be streaming live and on demand content and highlights.  So from what X-BOX says you can watch just about any game you want to.  Sounds great if you love college sports.  In addition, a couple of Kinect features will be added such as video and interaction with your friends online.  The last upgrade they mentioned was Hulu Plus, which I am not sure what that means yet, but hopefully it means all access pass to tons of shows through Hulu.

In all, some cool features will be added that I will use and X-BOX still has the best online networking around.  Plus when Halo Reach and Call of Duty Black Ops are released it will be all worth it.

Tell me what you think of the price increase.

The Prodigy: Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 7th, 2019

The Prodigy is an early-in-the-year horror film that checks most of the boxes of the horror genre while at the same time, showing us something fresh with a possibility of something much larger in scope. Which ever the case is, this film is very promising and I hope there is a sequel of some sort down the line, because this is an avenue of horror that needs to be explored.

‘Bumblebee: Film Review!!

by Janet White on Dec 22nd, 2018

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

B-127 is a film that is centered on one of the most beloved Transformers. Most people love Optimus Prime and a few “special” people love Megatron, however, B-127 is cooler than them both without question. B-127…you know whom that is, right? Bumblebee formerly known B-127 was sent to Earth under the order of Optimus Prime as its protector. Bumblebee landed on Earth and immediately into battle as well. A Decepticon pounced on Bumblebee and robbed him of his voice communications module. One additional hardship befalls Bumblebee as his memory is corrupted and amnesia weighs him down to an infant child. Plot sound familiar? Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘Venom’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2018

Venom is the latest example of a movie trying to be too many things. I don’t know if we need to blame the writers, director, or studio tinkering but somehow this movie attempts to be everything to everyone and fails miserably. That isn’t to say its a bad time at the movies, I actually truly enjoyed some aspects of Venom. I think if the movie focused on trying to do one thing instead of a million it may have been one of the best comic book movies in years. Instead, as a whole, it should be launched into space.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 2nd, 2018

Jurassic World‘ burst onto the scene as a sequel/reboot hybrid film that made over $1.6 billion at the box office. Of course, there would be more, but at what cost? ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘ takes place a year or so after the events of the first film where the island where the theme park and dinosaurs were on are ravaged by an exploding volcano. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard team up again to save the dinosaurs, however they are misled by a maniacal businessman who has other plans for the dinosaurs, mostly being selling them at an auction to warlords across the country in hopes of turning these dinosaurs into military killing machines with freaking lasers attached to their heads for a profit. I’m not making this up.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Phantasm IV: Oblivion’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2018

The ‘Phantasm‘ series is legendary with filmmaker Don Corsacelli and his villain the Tall Man front and center. What’s fun about this series of horror films is that each sequel starts off right where the previous movie left off. This fourth film had an insane pre-production history. Roger Avery of ‘Pulp Fiction‘ and ‘Rules of Attraction‘ actually wrote a screenplay for this 4th film where it centered on a post-apocalyptic future world. It even was set to star Bruce Campbell too.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2018

The ‘Phantasm‘ series is legendary with filmmaker Don Corsacelli and his villain the Tall Man front and center. What’s fun about this series of horror films is that each sequel starts off right where the previous movie left off. This third film plays out like ‘Inception‘ in a way, where characters are living in a dream within a dream, or shall I say nightmare through a lot of the film. There are some incohesive moments, but overall it’s still a lot of fun.

Film Review: ‘The Meg’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 10th, 2018

If you watched the trailer for The Meg in which a 90-foot shark appears to stalk a wedding party because the bride’s tiny dog jumped in for a swim while ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ blares over the speakers and hated it, then The Meg is not for you. The Meg is continuing a growing trend of low-tier Hollywood movies knowing exactly what they are. It is big, loud, preposterous, silly, funny, and so over the top, it hurts. It leans into these descriptors so hard that I found myself sort of admiring the fact that everyone involved was like, “We’re gonna see how ridiculous we can make this and the audience will either smile or their eyes will roll out of their head.” I found myself chuckling at the absurdity of it all, but not in a malicious way. I enjoyed the movie but will never see it again.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Matrix’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 25th, 2018

THE FILM

There are only a handful of times where a single film completely flips the entire cinema world upside down and becomes the landmark and milestone for future movies and filmmakers in the decades to come. In 1999, the filmscape was forever changed with a sci-fi action movie called ‘The Matrix‘ by the Wachowski siblings. Nobody had ever heard of the filmmaking duo before and there was not a single soul in the world that though Keanu Reeves would become the action star he became after this movie, but it all worked out well and drove a ton of creative people to think, philosophize, and create even more work based on ‘The Matrix‘.

Film Review: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2018

Ryan Reynolds was born to play the Marvel Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Reynolds just pours all of his unique charm, wit, comedy, and physical choreography into the character. It’s almost like Reynolds is the actual Deadpool in real life, and indeed the world is better for it. Marvel and Fox decided to play nice a couple of years ago and we got a rated R Marvel superhero film with ‘Deadpool‘. It was a gamble for sure with the strong bloody violence and foul language, but the film ended up making almost $800 million at the box office and  was met with rave reviews across the board.

Film Review #2: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 15th, 2018

Deadpool 2 checks all the boxes of  the very entertaining first film to the point you wonder if the script was some sort of mad lib experiment. Don’t get me wrong, letting Ryan Reynolds go full Ryan Reynolds in an R Rated superhero movie is a 90 minute blast just like it was the first time around but that’s kind of the problem… Deadpool 2 brought nothing new to the table. The Deadpool movie formula works to an extent because Reynolds is so damn fun and the first time you hear the jokes and references they land almost every time. Every criticism of the film can be 100% true but also not matter one bit with this franchise because Ryan Reynolds‘ charm is turned up so damn high that you gloss over the abundant flaws because there was a joke that you actually choked on a drink from.

Beka’s Review: ‘Red Sparrow’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 1st, 2018

Do you love spy movies? Are you way too into the Russia probe? Do you like gratuitous torture scenes? Did you miss the Jennifer Lawrence nudes? Get your tix for Red Sparrow, because it’s right up your alley. Walking in and realizing this movie is two hours and twenty minutes sets you back, but I have to be honest, once it started, it doesn’t drag. Without spoiling this spy thriller for you, the most I can say is that Jennifer Lawrence is a prima ballerina whose leg legit gets shattered during a performance and in order to keep her government paid housing and medical care for her ill mom, her dirty uncle sends her to whore school to learn to be a spy. She becomes their best student. AND. HERE. WE. GO.

4K UHD Review: ‘Hell or High Water’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2018

THE FILM

(The film portion was written by Liz Tramer)

Director David Mackenzie’s latest film, Hell or High Water, is a perfect example of how slow and steady wins the race.  The film is a little slow to start, but once it gets going, it’s fantastic. The story centers around two brothers, Toby  Howard (Chris Pine) and Tanner Howard (Ben Foster) who are desperately trying to save their mother’s farm and keep it in the family. The brothers are literally under the gun to find the money and decide the quickest way to make the deadline is to rob banks. Toby is intelligent, calm, cool and collected and the brains behind the operation. Tanner is an ex con hothead who relishes the crime spree and does little to control either his rage or his inclination toward violence.

4K UHD Review: ‘Jigsaw’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 16th, 2018

THE FILM

Wait, what? He’s back? He’s really back with his infamous contraptions that kill people? Of course he’s back, even after a seven year hiatus, which was the last time we watched the Saw franchise on the big screen. Jigsaw marks the 8th film in the series since 2004 and with an eight film combined budget of $77 million, the box office gross of all eight films is a hair-line under $1 billion. So if you think there will be more Saw films with more Tobin Bell, the answer is a hard “yes”. The Spierig Bros. (Undead, Predestination, Daybreakers) are in the director chairs this time around as they put Jigsaw/John Cramer (Bell) in the center of the story.

4K UHD Review: ‘Kick-Ass’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 2nd, 2017

THE FILM

Back in 2008, Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. created a new comic book that was kick-ass, that they in fact named it ‘Kick-Ass‘. It was basically Spider-Man if Spider-Man had no superpowers and was had a hardcore R rating. The amount of creative energy, violence, comedy, and character development that went into the comic was magical as it was entertaining and wonderful. Millar just had a way with words and story plot that made this comic book called ‘Kick-Ass‘ solid gold. It was to nobody’s surprise that only two years later, we got a feature film directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman) and produced by Brad Pitt, that ignited a new breed of R rated superhero films.

Film Review: War For The Planet of the Apes!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 12th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

I believe we all thought that Tim Burton killed the Planet of the Apes franchise back in 2001 with his horrible version of man vs. ape. Luckily in 2011, the studio breathed new life into the franchise with Rupert Wyatt’s early telling of what is to become with Planet of the Apes with astonishing visual effects, acting, and one hell of a story. That film – Rise of the Planet of the Apes showed that one ape named Caesar (Andy Serkis) was to become the first highly intelligent and humanized ape, but it came at a great cost with a virus that wiped out most of Earth’s population. In the sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that was taken over by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), Caesar and his ape friend are battling for their lives against the humans that have survived the virus outbreak. Now we have arrived at the conclusion of this epic trilogy – War For The Planet of the Apes, with Reeves in the director’s chair again as we see an aging and grayish haired Caesar tending to his family and still battling the demons of his former human-hating friend Koba, whom was killed in the previous film.

In what looks like to be the BEST film of the year, ‘The Marine‘ is on its 5th installment, which is headed direct to Blu-ray and DVD on April 25th, but will be available for HD streaming on March 28th. The first ‘Marine‘ film came out eleven years ago in 2006 and starred John Cena as a marine who gives the Attitude Adjustment to terrorists. Solid gold entertainment, Jerry. Solid gold. That first film cost $15 million, but only made $22 million at the box office. I guess that was enough to have WWE Studios create a franchise, which now we are on Part 5 with Mike ‘The Miz‘ as Cena’s replacement.

Halloween-main

We’ve talked about a ‘Halloween‘ remake before here. Hell, Rob Zombie even made two remakes of ‘Halloween‘, which really didn’t live up to anything that resembled a horror film. But that was long ago and we like to forget such films ever took place. The original horror master and filmmaker John Carpenter, who made the original film is putting together a reincarnation of his own film and just announced that Danny McBride and David Gordon Green will be writing and directing the new film. As you probably already know, McBride and Green have a long lasting relationship, as they both worked on ‘Pineapple Express’, ‘Eastbound and Down’, and the recent ‘Vice Principals’.

Film Review: ‘SPLIT’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 18th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

M. Night Shyamalan has sure given us some wonderful and unforgettable films over the years. Somewhere along the way, Shyamalan lost his way as a filmmaker. So much so, that the studios would leave his name off all advertisements for the movie. It wasn’t until ‘The Visit‘ when Shyamalan came into the good graces of his fans again. Perhaps this is because he only had a very small budget to work with and got creative control without a ton of studio interference to do his own creative work. Now we have a new small budget film from Shyamalan called ‘Split‘, and is yet another step forward for the filmmaker in the third part of his career, which seems to drop the Spielberg aspect and go straight for the B-Movie genre.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

interview-with-the-vampire-kirsten-dunst-96219_1500_1008

Someone alert Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise again. Anne Rice has the theatrical rights to her ‘Vampire Chronicles‘ once again and looks to make a TV Series and maybe even more movies. Anne Rice released here first book on the vampire lore back in 1976 with ‘Interview with The Vampire‘, which had a sequel book in 1985 titled ‘The Vampire Lestat‘. Warner Bros. got the rights shortly after and made the Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt film, which made over $220 million. Not exactly a light-weight.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

acs-home-header-ac_movie_trailer-fox-official_249544

Yes, we are all a bit nervous when it comes to video game movies. There is good reason for that too, since most of them are fairly terrible, even though some make a ton of money at the box office. The ‘Tomb Raider‘ films with Angelina Jolie made a ton of money as did the many sequels of ‘Resident Evil‘. Let’s not forget the recent ‘Warcraft‘ movie or ‘The Angry Birds‘ movie either – all of which made a big box office splash, despite the quality of story and performances.

THE FILM

Back in 1988, an excellent creative team consisting of director Tom Holland, writer Don Mancini, producer David Kirschner, and visual effects wizard Kevin Yagher got together and made ‘Child’s Play‘ and psychological thriller turned horror film about a serial killer’s soul that is transferred into a kid’s toy doll and wreaks havoc on this family in Chicago. Nobody knew at the time, but this small little film would be an instant cult classic with rave reviews from audiences and critics alike for years to come. Not only that, but this film hatched numerous sequels and created one of the most famous horror icons in pop culture – Chucky.

FILM REVIEW: “OPERATION MEKONG”

by Justin Cline on Oct 4th, 2016

operation-mekong_poster_goldposter_com_1

Justin C. here,…

Operation Mekong waits until the final credits roll to inform its audience that the film they’ve just witnessed is based on a true story. I can’t help but feel that this may have been by design as it certainly would have lessened my enjoyment to think that the filmmakers meant for me to believe even for an instant that what I was watching was true.

More than anything else, Mekong is an action movie, but does the element of realism hurt it or help it? Read the rest of this entry »

FILM REVIEW: “THE GREASY STRANGLER”

by Justin Cline on Sep 26th, 2016

Justin C. here,..

Correct me if I’m wrong, but at one time the term “cult film” referred to a movie that failed at the box office during its initial release but eventually found its niche, either through home video release (The Evil Dead) or midnight screenings (The Rocky Horror Picture Show). Nowadays, it seems as if certain filmmakers have grown disinterested in commercial success and are instead targeting that fringe audience they consider underserved by mainstream fare.

Such is the case with The Greasy Strangler. Read the rest of this entry »

Donnie Darko‘ is a 2001 film from Richard Kelly (‘The Box‘, ‘Domino‘) that boasts of a ridiculously star-studded cast and is one of the first films mentioned when putting together a list of cult-classics. Yes, ‘The Conjuring 2‘ made it difficult to sleep for a few nights for me, and since I’ve seen that excellent sequel, I still get visions of one of the demons, which was a nun. It was truly terrifying. Well, just like ‘Annabelle‘ was a spinoff of the first ‘Conjuring‘ film, ‘The Nun‘ will be this sequel’s spinoff movie with James Wan and Peter Safran teaming up again to produce the film.

Film Review: ‘Neighbors 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

0002-neighbors-2-ew_0

It’s rare when a comedy sequel works on all levels. With sequels, you’d hope the original cast comes back and there is a good balance of returning and new jokes and plot devices to make it stand on its own without doing the same recycled material as the original. With the case of ‘Neighbors‘, you had a pretty great cast with Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, in an ‘R’ rated comedy about a couple with a newborn baby, trying to raise a family next to a frat house. It was a solid premise with a lot of funny moments. The small budget film of only $18 million went on to make over $270 million at the box office.

Film Review: ’10 Cloverfield Lane’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 10th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Screen-Shot-2016-01-15-at-7.53.37-AM-620x400

Has it really been 8 years since we saw New York destroyed in ‘Cloverfield‘, which was the “found footage” film produced by J.J. Abrams about a giant monster in NYC. That film was highly secretive before it came out, and nobody really knew anything about it, but it did well at the box office and there was a lot of talk of a sequel for a number of years. A couple of years ago, things started popping up on sites that said “Untitled J.J. Abrams” project, and as of a couple of months ago, we got the first glimpse of a trailer called ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘, produced by Abrams again and directed by first time feature director Dan Tratchenberg (Portal short). The studio and Abrams himself said that this was not a direct sequel to 2008’s ‘Cloverfield‘, but it was a blood relative or spiritual successor to it, because where do you really go from the end of ‘Cloverfield‘?

Blu-ray Review: ‘Creed’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

Another year, another ‘Rocky‘ movie. Some of you might be saying, “When is enough, enough?” More times than not, you might be right with any string of sequels that goes back the third installment, particularly with the ‘Rocky‘ franchise. Sure, the first ‘Rocky‘ film from 1976 was spectacular, and arguably one of the better movies ever made. It even won a ton of Oscars that year, including Best Picture. ‘Rocky II‘ came shortly after, which was still excellent, but starting with ‘Rocky III‘, things got silly and the films lost some focus. Still, audiences world wide packed theater houses to see the Italian Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) underdog his way up to the top, never quitting and giving his best. It’s a great message.

Blu-ray Review: ‘A Lego Brickumentary’!

by Janet White on Jan 6th, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

A Lego Brickumentary

THE FILM

When you were a kid, which of your toys was limited only by your imagination?  Dolls?  Cars and fire engines?  Your Big Wheel? For many people, it was LEGOs.  If you could imagine it, with hard work and lots of LEGOs you could bring it to the third dimension.  A LEGO Brickumentary explores the origin, innovation, and longevity of this building block known around the world.  Guided by a trusty LEGO minifigure narrator (Jason Bateman), the film travels from the outer reaches of space to LEGO’s birthplace, Denmark.  What Ole Kirk Christiansen created started out as solid red blocks with small knobs to attach it to other blocks (“Clutch Power”) has evolved into translucent, motorized, and magnetic units available in a bevy of different colors.  Chock full of facts and awe-inspiring constructs, A LEGO Brickumentary reveals there is more to this block and its uses are infinite or are they?  For example, the name LEGO comes from the Danish word Leg Godt, which means “play well.”   Read the rest of this entry »

‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’ Finally has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 11th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

landscape-1435513480-my-big-fat-greek-wedding

It’s odd that it has taken this long for a sequel to come out for this. Sure, there was a short-lived television show, but that’s because most of the original cast and crew did NOT return. ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding‘ cost $5 million to make and was produced by Tom Hanks himself. This little romantic comedy ended up making $369 million dollars in the box office. Now if that isn’t a mega hit, I don’t know what is.

San Diego Comic-Con is all I’ve been talking about the last week, and with good reason! The epic trailers, the cast surprises, the tidbits of info that have been, previously, safely guarded. This week gives us a fantastic peek into the next year or two of film and gets us stoked for those release dates. One of the most exciting bits of information came from Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman. He gave us three words that sent fans everywhere into a frenzied sort of glee as to what ‘Wolverine 3‘ could entail, myself included, those words were “Old. Man. Logan.” Boom!

Film Review: ‘Ted 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 25th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

04

Who would have thought that Seth MacFarlane’s (creator of ‘Family Guy‘) first feature film about a pot-smoking foul-mouthed teddy bear would have made over $550 million at the box office back in 2012? I certainly didn’t expect it, but it’s the sole reason why we have the sequel to ‘Ted‘, simply titled ‘Ted 2‘. I’ll be honest with you. Macfarlane did a fantastic job with the first film, making an ‘R’ rated comedy with heart and enough laughs that are still memorable today. He even threw in some great cameos and nods to pop culture references, much like ‘Family Guy‘ does.
