Hey guys, Jana here,

Ryan Reynolds‘ star power just gets higher and higher, and it looks like he’s not slowing down in any way, shape or form. The ‘Deadpool‘ ringer’s production company, Maximum Effort, has signed a 3-year first-look deal with Fox. This is a timely announcement as Twentieth Century Fox’s feature assets will be transferred to Disney. It looks like they’ve found their first project and it’s going to be interesting.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Mississippi Grind‘ is one of those loose, lively road movies centering on Ben Mendelsohn as Gerry, a talented but on a good-run-of-bad-luck gambler who changes his fortunes when he meets Curtis (Ryan Reynolds), a younger poker player. The pair become immediate friends and Gerry persuades Curtis to join him on a road trip to a legendary high stakes poker game in New Orleans. Of course, theirs is not a direct line with no stops and they hit just about every bar, racetrack, casino or pool hall they can find experiencing the ultimate highs and lows of gambling, each win or loss cements their friendship creating a genuine bond between the two.

If you’re like me you’ve been on pins and needles awaiting casting information from one of the latest films covering the canon of the Marvel universe, ‘Deadpool‘. Wise-cracking Wade Wilson aka Deadpool is a fan favorite for his ass-kicking capability and his witty master of the English language. Marvel originally introduced Wilson in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine‘ in 2009 played perfectly by Ryan Reynolds. In a somewhat strange turn of events, Reynolds confirmed that the current ‘Deadpool’ will have no connection to the character he originated in the Wolverine movie, but will be playing him again, in the new incarnation. This time around Wade Wilson, an assassin who undergoes a procedure to cure his cancer that ends up leaving him twisted and scarred but carrying superpowers. ‘Deadpool‘ is slated to begin filming in March and slated for 2016 release.

Hello, Jana here,

beauty-of-helen-mirren-2

Ryan Reynolds is the latest to join Helen Mirren in The Weinstein Company’s ‘Woman In Gold‘ or ‘The Golden Lady‘, not sure which title they are going to go with. Daniel Bruhl is in negotiations, at this point. Mirren will play real-life heroine Maria Altmann,  a Jewish WWII survivor who fought the Austrian government to get back several paintings by Gustav Klimt that were stolen from her family during wartime. Reynolds will play the attorney who took this case despite knowing little about art and Bruhl, will play his adversary.  Looks like George Clooney’sThe Monument’s Men‘ missed a few paintings.

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Big Eyes’ tells the true tale of Margaret and Walter Keane, a couple whose famous and one of a kind paintings of wide-eyed children became a hugely successful in the pop art community in the fifties and sixties. There is a surprise revelation to the story though.  Walter  stood as the frontman for the whole venture, where he took credit for his wife’s work.

Hi Bryan Here…..

I was totally smitten with ‘Real Steel’.  I went into the film thinking that it wasn’t going to do much for me, but I was blown away on how great this movie was.  I really enjoyed it.  The FX are top notch and it looks incredible on bluray.  The extras are pretty decent as well.  The movie warms the heart, has some very thrilling and tense fight scenes, and a bit of comedy.  This could be fun for the whole family, and it will.  I definitely recommend ‘Real Steel’.

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Cannonball Run’ is most certainly an acquired taste.  Much like a fine scotch.  It’s not for everyone.  If you’re a fan of those late 70’s early 80’s silly goofball comedies, than ‘Cannonball Run’  is the movie for you.  However, if you aren’t, then this movie will be like nails on a chalkboard.  I will say that it has an amazing cast with the likes of; Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, Dom Deluise, Roger Moore, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Chan, Adrienne Barbeau, and Jamie Farr to name a few.  This i movie is a lot of fun if you’re into this sort of thing, and my guess is that like myself, you have seen this over a dozen times.  ‘Cannonball Run’  is a zany film to have fun with.

Hi Bryan Here….

There has been tons of versions of this tale over the years.  This 2002 version is highly entertaining and does quite a bit right.  ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ is a tale of pure and simple revenge.  It really is the best motivator isn’t it?  So for this version, the meat and potatoes are taken from the novel and turned into a pretty great adventure full of thrills and excitement.  Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce are amazing in the film.  Definitely a fun film and a great telling of this classic novel.

Bryan Takes The ‘Green Lantern’ Oath!!! (A Review)

by Bryan Kluger on Jun 23rd, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

I know it’s a little late to the party, but better late than never right?  I am actually glad I am chiming in on ‘Green Lantern’ after it has been out for a while.  It seems that most critics are ripping ‘Green Lantern’ a new asshole.  A lot of negativity is surrounding this film.  I get why most of the people are upset, but not to this extent.  Now when I watched the first couple of trailer fort his film, I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw.  It looked horrible and was not what I read in the script at all.  Whoever cut that trailer should not be allowed to work anymore.  But then that big theatrical trailer came out, and all seemed right with the world.  I was excited for Green Lantern and couldn’t wait to see it.  The film works.  Yes it has a bit of fat around the edges, but it is a solid film and most of all, it is entertaining and fun.

Bryan’s Most Anticipated Films for 2011!!!

by Bryan Kluger on Jan 7th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

So 2010 is over and 2011 has just begun.  I was recently talking with a friend and we both agreed that 2010 was kind of a let down as far as movies went.  Don’t get me wrong, there were some precious gems riddled throughout the year, but they were not many.  Basically I said, that it was a very uncool year with flashes of coolness in regards to films.

The Old Guard – Film Review!

by Bryan Kluger on Jul 14th, 2020

“The Old Guard is a blast.”

This is a perfect Netflix movie and why I hope the streaming giant continues to spend millions on original content every year. An R-rated, high concept, sci-fi, action team origin story starring Charlize Theron that travels all around the globe? Sign me up every time. You may be saying to yourself, “But Dan, Six Underground and Extraction both came out on Netflix this year too.” Well, let me tell you why this movie is vastly superior to those two… two words… Charlize Theron. Don’t get me wrong I love Ryan Reynolds and Chris Hemsworth and their Netflix movies were entertaining but The Old Guard is elevated because Charlize is so overqualified for this role and the director focused on the characters first, action second.

7500 – Film Review!

by Bryan Kluger on Jun 17th, 2020

“7500 is a quick potboiler of a movie with a couple of fun storytelling devices and a good performance from Levitt.”

Not to be confused with the 2014 spooky film that starred Leslie Bibb and Turtle from HBO’s Entourage, 7500 is a hair-raising thriller set in the mile high club with a couple of gimmicks from German film director Patrick Vollrath. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises), this suspenseful film barely allows room to breathe as a passenger airplane is hijacked by a group of terrorists with a Jr. co-pilot forced to take charge for the duration of the flight.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu – Film Review!

by Bryan Kluger on May 9th, 2019

“Pokémon Detective Pikachu has no business being this enjoyable. It is funny, quick, and delivers a B level story that fits in the strange world it has created.”

Pokémon Detective Pikachu is better than it has any right to be. I’ll admit when this movie was first announced my cynical brain immediately wrote it off as a failed experiment that will bomb at the box office. I assume it would try too hard and take itself way too seriously. Then the first trailer came out and it was announced Ryan Reynolds would be voicing Pikachu and I was intrigued. Reynolds is essentially doing a PG version of Deadpool with Pikachu and I won’t lie, I kind of loved it. Instead of being a serious, self-righteous money grab by a studio desperate for a franchise, it turned out to be a light, fun, and truly enjoyable money grab that is no doubt the start of a franchise.

Film Review: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Bryan Kluger on May 16th, 2018

Ryan Reynolds was born to play the Marvel Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool. Reynolds just pours all of his unique charm, wit, comedy, and physical choreography into the character. It’s almost like Reynolds is the actual Deadpool in real life, and indeed the world is better for it. Marvel and Fox decided to play nice a couple of years ago and we got a rated R Marvel superhero film with ‘Deadpool‘. It was a gamble for sure with the strong bloody violence and foul language, but the film ended up making almost $800 million at the box office and  was met with rave reviews across the board.

Film Review #2: ‘Deadpool 2’!

by Bryan Kluger on May 15th, 2018

Deadpool 2 checks all the boxes of  the very entertaining first film to the point you wonder if the script was some sort of mad lib experiment. Don’t get me wrong, letting Ryan Reynolds go full Ryan Reynolds in an R Rated superhero movie is a 90 minute blast just like it was the first time around but that’s kind of the problem… Deadpool 2 brought nothing new to the table. The Deadpool movie formula works to an extent because Reynolds is so damn fun and the first time you hear the jokes and references they land almost every time. Every criticism of the film can be 100% true but also not matter one bit with this franchise because Ryan Reynolds‘ charm is turned up so damn high that you gloss over the abundant flaws because there was a joke that you actually choked on a drink from.

National Lampoon’s Van Wilder‘ came out sixteen years ago and more or less re-lit the fire for National Lampoon. This also paved the way for Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds, as this was his first feature film in a leading role. Some of the jokes don’t hit too well in our current politically correct culture, but it’s silly enough to have fun with it. It’s just unfortunate that the filmmakers went the gross-out humor route solely and failed to develop these good characters, but that seemed to be the case in 2002. Also, it’s unfortunate that this is not a new remaster or transfer. This is the same video and audio presentations from the 2007 Blu-ray release, which of course had its problems. I imagine Lionsgate is trying to make a quick and easy dollar for the release of ‘Deadpool 2‘, hence this re-release that has no new extras on it. Still, if you’re a fan of the film and want the Digital Copy, this is a way to get it.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’!

by Bryan Kluger on Nov 22nd, 2017

THE FILM

On paper, ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard‘ sounds like a solid gold winner. You have Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in a violent action-comedy with enough “motherfucks” for two films, that is directed by the guy who made ‘The Expendables 3‘ – Patrick Hughes. Those looking for a ‘Deadpool‘ style character from Reynolds will be disappointed, as he’s the straight arrow here, or as straight as Reynolds could possibly be. Samuel L. Jackson on the other hand is amped up to 11, as he plays Kinkaid, an assassin for hire who will testify in a global crime ring against a foreign mad man, played by Gary Oldman, complete with a hard Russian accent.

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 15th, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,

Just to give you a taste of what Deadpool 2 is going to be about, Twentieth Century Fox had this to say about the sequel –
