May/2020

Hi, Bryan Here….

This looks like as close as we’ll get to a ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ sequel in the next year or two, but Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, David Wain, and Michael Showalter are all teaming together for a new film called ‘They Came Together’.  Wain and Showalter penned the script soon after ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ was released.

The Lovebirds – Film Review (Netflix)!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 21st, 2020

“The Lovebirds is a great addition to the romantic comedy genre.”

A once-loving relationship is gasping for its last breath of life as Jabril (Kumail Nanjiani) and Leilani (Issa Rae) are forced to spend their final night as a couple on a whirlwind escapade of murder, law enforcement, and aristocratic orgies in Michael Showalter’s latest film – The Lovebirds.

Favorite Movies of 2017!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2017

Was 2017 a great year for movies? Of course it was. There were some excellent films to be released in 2017. There were also some bad ones for sure, but the focus on this article are some of the Best films that stuck with me long after viewing. Most people will give you their Top 10 list, but this is no Top 10, because there are just so many movies that I loved and feel passionate about, that I find it difficult and unpleasing to rank them.

Instead, these are my favorite movies of 2017, which I hope you’ve seen already. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a real treat and I can’t wait for you to see them. Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..

Blu-ray Review: The Big Sick!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

The Film portion is written by Beka Perlstein:

If The Big Sick isn’t on your must see movie list, do yourself a favor and rewrite the list. This film is the real life love story of how actor/comedian Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) met his girlfriend and (spoiler alert) now wife, Emily Gordon. It’s not another Fault in Our Stars or Me Before You, it’s so much more than a love sick story. Behind the romantic comedy model is a story about a Pakistani immigrant who is struggling with identity, relationships, family, career and religion. To put it simply- he’s just trying to figure out this thing we call life.

Favorite Movie Scene of the Day #11!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 12th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

When David Wain, Michael Showalter, and Michael Ian Black showed up on the entertainment scene, they brought comedy into a new direction with their unique humor and jokes in the Stella shorts. If you haven’t seen those, I highly suggest you check those out. A little bit later on, they made a tiny movie called Wet Hot American Summer, which became an instant beloved cult classic that has spawned multiple sequels/prequels in tv series form on Netflix. Speaking in terms of specific scenes though, one in particular comes to mind that makes me laugh out loud every time I see and think about it.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 22nd, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-06-22 at 10.34.57 AM

You all taste like a burger. I don’t like you anymore. Of course, I joke. The next installment in the new Wet Hot American Summer franchise is almost here with Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later. When the first film came out, there was a scene in the movie where all the camp counselors discussed coming back to camp ten years later for a reunion.

More ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘ is coming to Netflix in 2017 with eight new episodes, and is subtitled ‘Ten Years Later‘. I guess they are really going to abide by that scene in the original film where everyone discusses meeting back up ten years later, and then trying to actually schedule a time and date. It was pretty funny. This last series of episodes was entitled ‘First Day of Camp‘ where the original film was set on the last day of summer camp.

Film Review: ‘Hello, My Name is Doris’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 17th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

287907

I didn’t know a whole lot about ‘Hello, my Name is Doris‘, other than that Sally Field was starring in the film as true genuine free spirit of sorts, but when the director’s name flashed on the screen in the opening credits, I knew immediately I was in for a real treat. That director is Michael Showalter, who you might remember from ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘, ‘Stella‘, or ‘The Baxter‘, which was his last big directorial feature film some eleven years ago. ‘Hello, My Name is Doris‘ walks a fine line between the comedy and dramatic realm, but Showalter’s screenplay and directorial effort walks the line quite well, mixing some genuine and silly comedy with some intense dramatic moments.

A ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Sequel Might Happen!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 21st, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Director David Wain recently sat down with Jeff Goldsmith for a Q & A session and they talked about the upcoming tenth anniversary of that cult comedy instant classic ‘ Wet Hot American Summer’.  When discussing the anniversary, Wain said that Universal won’t release a 10th Anniversary edition of the film.  Universal is stupid to not do this.  This movie has such  an all-star cast which were all almost unknowns at the time.  They included: aul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooperand Elizabeth Banks as well as Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Ian Black, A.D. Miles, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Zak Orth, Margurerite Moreau, Judah Friedlander and Michael Showalter who co-wrote the script along with director David Wain (”Role Models,” “Children’s Hospital”).

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

whas

Netflix is in final talks with director/actor David Wain and writer/director Michael Showalter to revive their hit cult comedy film ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘, which is one of the funniest films of all time. Wain and Showalter are looking to make this into a prequel series, which will reunite the entire cast from the original film back in 2001, a lot of those actors being Oscar and Emmy winners now.
