The ‘Transformers‘ franchise has been at a low point for me over the last few films, maybe it was the director, maybe it was the story line, regardless of the reason, the next film in the tunnel has some news that is a little more exciting. Director Michael Bay is returning for the fifth installment with Josh Duhamel.

Hi, MDP Here…

Dean-Ambrose

On a night that was supposed to be all about WWE’s championships, and on a night where he wasn’t even scheduled to appear, the takeaway from Night of Champions is that Dean Ambrose is the coolest. Ambrose had been off for a month after Seth Rollins and Corporate Kane took him out on an episode of Monday Night Raw. Rollins was scheduled to face Roman Reigns on Sunday, but Reigns underwent emergency surgery over the weekend and will be out for several months. While Rollins was gloating in the ring after demanding that the ref declare him the winner via forfeit, Ambrose arrived (via taxi cab; what timing!) and attacked Rollins.

Attention Batfans, Jana here,

I’m a bonafide Batfan from way back when Wonder Woman and Batgirl were on my knickers. This includes all things batty. Not like regular animal bats, because that would just be weird, or at the very least, awkward. If you call your pad the Batcave and you’re a Batman fan, all is well, if you call it the Batcave because it’s full of real bats, you might need to spend some time in Arkham Asylum. Don’t worry, it’s perfectly safe…er…well usually.

Theatre Review: ‘The Lion King’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 16th, 2018

Ever since ‘The Lion King’ (1994 film) debuted in movie theaters, the musical’s popularity has conquered more than just that box office. Only third in line to the thrown of Disney’s top-grossing films, it was inevitable that this animated picture would be adapted into a stage production. Satisfying the lingering hunger of audiences, ‘The Lion King’ (1997 musical) is not only Broadway’s third longest-running show, but it surpassed the film’s success as Broadway’s top-grossing musical ever. Combined with phenomenal puppetry, vibrant costumes, a sensational set design and a disreputably epic soundtrack, it’s easy to see why ‘The Lion King’ has been crowned the best. Be prepared for a royal experience—this interactive musical will pounce on your emotions and leave your heart roaring with excitement!

Hey guys, Jana here,

Straight from it’s dynamic debut where it premiered January 21, 2018, at the Sundance Film Festival in the Midnight section, comes ‘Hereditary‘ to theaters nation wide June 8th, 2018. It’s a combination drama/mystery/horror film that will make anyone take a second look at their family. The writer director Ari Aster is the man behind this film, both from his pen and his artistic vision that brought the project to fruition. This is Aster’s first feature length film after helming and writing   a handful of short films. With positive reviews coming in, it seems his first attempt at a full length film was a success, at least that’s what the 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes would suggest. I’m sure that’s a relief for PalmStar Media (‘Collateral Beauty‘), Windy Hill Pictures, and A24 (‘Lady Bird‘, ‘The Florida Project‘, ‘The Disaster Artist‘) who were the production companies backing the flick.

2015 Disney Film Release Dates With Trailers!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

star-wars-disney-570x307

While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

Sequel to TMNT Announced!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey everyone, Jana here,

Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtletop

I get so sad for the future of American film some days. This film is a perfect case-in-point. First off, we had to know that once Michael Bay got his hands on the film rights to one of my childhood favorites, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘, that regular rules of paying respect, homage, or even a gentle nod to their beginnings as a comic book was a long shot. I think the first warning of potential trouble had to come when we saw Bay was involved. Most people would think well, he’s just a producer and not going to direct and be such a vital part of the final product. Those people would be wrong.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

84B2523B-74BC-44B2-B2FF-AE4880AB302B

If you haven’t seen the original film ‘Black Dynamite‘, you should highly consider taking a few hours from your weekend and watching it. It’s highly entertaining. From the big cult success of that film, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim picked up the storyline in the form of an animated series. Needless to say, the series was just as good as the film. Hell, the first episode had Black Dynamite fighting an evil version of The Jackson Five. The series will be available July 15, on Blu-ray and DVD and will Include the 10 First Season Episodes Plus  a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette, and an Original Pilot and Video Commentaries.

The ‘They Came Together’ Trailer Is Here!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on May 2nd, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

tct_article_story_large

If you want to make a spoof of every romantic comedy you’ve ever seen, you should cast Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. That’s what ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘ director David Wain did with ‘They Came Together‘. Poehler is the perfect choice for a corny spoof. She’s gained legions of fans with her quirky performances in ‘Saturday Night Live‘, ‘Mean Girls‘ and ‘Blades of Glory‘. Rudd is always going to be the dorky Dave Paris in Baz Luhrman’sRomeo + Juliet‘.

Here are the nominees for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. Wow, there were a lot of snubs here. And how did ‘Rush‘ make the list for Best Picture? No way! And what about ‘The Way Way Back‘, ‘Mud‘, or ‘Short Term 12‘ not being nominated? For shame. Let me know what you think of this nominee list?

rumour-marvel-keen-on-aaron-taylor-johnson-to-play-quicksilver-136719-a-1370846169-470-75

Before, I get into the future project of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a.k.a. Kick Ass, let me just take a moment to express how absolutely gorgeous this guy looks without the frizzy hair of his first appearance as the normal dude turned vigilante. I kind of slid my eyes past him because I could not see the hottie he had hidden. I just checked out a picture of him and was freaking gobsmacked at the boy looking back at me that will be filling my night time thoughts. Yummy. Now that I’ve stated the obvious but important point of his looks I can get on with his new project.

James Gandolfini left an emptiness in his wake, especially for those of us that loved him on HBO. His legacy lives on with HBO, as befits Gandolfini’s biggest and arguably best starring role in, the numerous award winning, ‘The Sopranos‘.  Gandolfini played a role in the ‘Criminal Justice‘ pilot, that will be filled by none other than, Oscar winner, Robert De Niro. The actor who is no stranger to playing mafia characters has stepped into the vacated too soon size 12’s James Gandolfini left behind after his untimely death in June of this year. Robert DeNiro is a legend in his own right playing such famous parts in ‘Taxi Driver‘, ‘Godfather II‘, ‘Raging Bull‘, and ‘The Untouchables‘ to just name a few.

‘Man of Steel’ Will be 3D!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 7th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The upcoming Superman film, ‘Man of Steel’ has jest been given the go ahead to be released in 3D.  Smart movie, since 3D ticket prices are significantly higher than normal movie ticket prices.  And with these big epic superhero films, they all want to milk every last penny .  Since Avengers (was in 3D) made over $1 billion and Dark Knight Rises (not in 3D) did not so easily, I think all studios want the extra cash.  Like I said, it’s smart, but not necessarily a great move.  Out of the 100 or so films I have seen in 3D, only two or three of them really made a difference being in 3D.  I doubt this one will as well.  However, if you are a fan of the format, then this should excite you.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Seductive, fearless and outrageous, Marina Abramović has been redefining the meaning of art for nearly 40 years. Using her own body as a vehicle, pushing herself beyond her limits, and at times risking her physical safety, she creates performances that challenge, shock and move. From first-time director Matthew Akers, MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ THE ARTIST IS PRESENT follows “the grandmother of performance art” as she prepares for a major retrospective of her work at Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 2010, highlighted by a new exhibit that is breathtaking in its simplicity: two chairs facing each other, with Abramović sitting in one and audience members taking turns sitting in the other, gazing into each other’s eyes in silence. In true Abramović style, she remains in the chair for seven and a half hours each day – every day the museum is open for three months – without eating, drinking or moving, a feat of mental and physical endurance that is challenging even for a veteran of such performances.

TOP 133 FILMS OF THE LAST DECADE #’S 68-54

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 22nd, 2010

Bryan Here…

Knocking out this list on time and schedule nowadays.  Feels good.  Some great films on this part of the list.  Some that I have not seen in a while that I will have to watch again soon. We’re getting down to the #1 spot pretty quickly.  Enjoy this part of the list #’s 68-54.  As usual, you will get the title of the movie and the date it was released plus a mini review/memory by me.  Also a link to purchase the movie if you are ever so inclined which would donate a small percentage back to this website so we can keep giving you AWESOME material and prizes.

Enjoy

68_ Iron Man – May 2, 2008

Another comic book film.  Iron Man is really really good in pretty much every way.  Robert Downey Jr. is killer in this film as the super-hero and Jeff Bridges is a pretty convincing bad guy.  This film is a lot of fun and full of laughs and action.  Can’t wait for the sequel and Avengers film.  Go Sam Jackson as Nick Fury.

67_ Brick – March 31, 2006

This film is great.  A wonderful homage to the old 30’s noir films.  Set in present time but take the characters and have them talk like they did in the 30’s noir film and a plot and story line likewise.  It is so great.  Tons of twists and turns.  Joseph Gordon Levitt is amazing.  I am proud to have this on the list.  Love this film.

66_ Drag Me To Hell – May 29, 2009

Sam Raimi’s return to the horror genre from his long stint on the Spidey franchise is 100 % AWESOME.  Sadly no Bruce Campbell, but Drag Me To Hell is Evil Dead I & II and Army of Darkness rolled into one film.  Yes it is that great.  This is your standard tale  of a gypsy woman curing a young girl this curse activates a demon to terrorize its victims and DRAG THEM TO HELL.  Good scares and great laughs.  A lot of fun.

65_ Zoolander – September 28, 2001

Ben Stiller is great director and a great character actor.  Tons of quotable lines from this film even today.  A dark comedy in the world of super-models.  I mean in the first five minutes of the film a few super models die in  a gas station fire which they started.  HILARIOUS.  Tons of great cameos and acting all around.  Zoolander will always have a place in my home and heart.   I mean he did found the Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good.

64_ Napoleon Dynamite – June 11, 2004

I saw this film five times before it was initially released wide and I loved every minute of it.  I really cannot tell what time period it is in other than sometime in the vague present, but Napoleon is a kid in high school who is maybe the most awkward kid ever, but he means well.  This is the story of his life in the span of a few weeks.  It is quite hilarious in this dry humor.  This character is one of the cult icons now in history.  The dance number at the end to Canned heat classic.  Love this film.

63_ Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind – March 19, 2004

A gem of a film from Gondry.  This film is fantastic film.  Almost like you are in a dream and nightmare at the same time through out the whole film.  A couple undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.  Truly fantastic.

62_ Ratatouille – June 29, 2007

I really liked this pixar film.  All about the restaurant and food and cooking industry.  So much heart and love is in this film.  It looks beautiful and and the voice acting by Patton Oswalt is wonderful.  Anyone can cook, even a rat.  Love it.

61_ The Departed – October 6, 2006

A really great gangster film from the best gangster director.  That is Marty Scorcesse.  Boston gangs.  All-star cast and tons of twists and references to other mob films.  Leonardo Di Caprio plays an undercover agent in the mob and tries to keep his sanity and wits during the whole time.  What a great film.  Alec Baldwin is hilarious in this film.

60_ Munich – December 23, 2005

A Spielberg film about the true events and revenge of the horrible attack at the Munich Olympic games against the Israel team.  Eric Bana leads the grou to kill one by one the terrorists responsible for the murders.  What an amazing film.  Everything is great about this film except for the last ten minutes which is what to expect from Spielberg films.

59_ Thank You For Smoking – March 17, 2006

I really loved this film.  This about lobbyists in our nation.  Lobbyists for tobacco, guns, and alcohol and how they persuade politicians and important people to keep their industry making large amounts of money.  It is very good and entertaining.  Pretty scary too that this actually goes on.  Great writing and acting all around.

58_ The Hangover – June 5, 2009

Form the director of Old School and Road Trip comes the next film about a crazy Bachelor Party in vegas with strippers, guns, tasers, naked people, Mike Tyson, tigers and much much more.  I believe this film is the highest gross out of any R rated film ever.  It is very funny.  Very funny.  Leslie Chow.

57_ Superbad – August 17, 2007

Oh this great comedy film brought tears of laughter to my face.  Oh so funny.  Jonah Hill and Michael Cera are best friends in their last days of high school who have only really hung out with each other and are invited to  a huge party and are asked to supply the liquor which is the “entire funness” of the party.  This is their journey to accomplish this with their friend McLovin who is a cult icon now too.  This film is great and has most of the Apatow gang in it.  Not only does this film bring the best jokes but it also has a great heart and soul in it as well.  Friendship.

56_ Serenity – September 30, 2005

Man Joss Whedon kicks ass.  His vision of a sci-fi/western world is phenomenal.  This was a television series before a film.  The film is equally awesome as the show was.  I wish more films were like this.  It is entertaining, scary, funny, romantic, and pretty much all the emotions across the board in the span of two hours.  This will entertain you for years to come.  There is a reason all these shirts and posters say Joss Whedon is my Master now.  It is true.

55_ 300 – March 9, 2007

Frank Miller’s brutal Spartan comic became a reality when director Zack Snyder took the helm and adapted it into a movie.  This movies is 99% shot on a green screen with a “crush” technique that gives the film its rustic vintage look.  I was wondering how they were going to turn a 32 page comic book into a whole two hour feature length film, but they did.  And did it well.  I saw a screener of this movie way before its initial release and it was introduced by UFC Champ Chuck Liddell.    Chuck got us all in the mood for a hardcore brutal film about honor and freedom.  The fight scenes were filmed extremely well and has been copied in many other movies after this one.  I am referring to the normal pace to the slow- mo action beats all in one shot.  The use of heavy metal music was an added booster to the balls this movies has.  I really liked this movie.  Very entertaining.

54_ Hot Fuzz – February 14, 2007

The second feature film from BADASS director, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), brings us his vision of the ultimate fast paced action thriller in Hot Fuzz.  This film starred the same cast as Shaun of the Dead, and was about the best police officer in London getting re-assigned to a very small quiet village.  The people who live in the village are not what they seem.  This film packs a huge punch of action and gut busting laughs.  The end action sequence lasts about 25 minutes and is balls to the wall AWESOME.  Edgar Wright can do NO wrong.  I saw the U.S. premiere of this film at AFI, and met Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Edgar Wright, and Dolph Lundgren (who introduced the film).  A great film that I will enjoy through the ages and one of the best action films EVER.

Top 133 Films of the Last Decade #’s 84-69

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 20th, 2010

Hey, Bryan here, with the next part of the list of the Top 133 Films of the past decade.  Sorry it has been delayed here recently.  With all the news, movie premieres, being out of town, running the comic book biz, and writing new scripts, I have simply not had the time to get more films added to this list.  So hopefully from now on, I will be able to get this list knocked out every day or two.  Thank you for your patience.  This is list #’s 84 – 69.  Enjoy it.  As usual, you will get the title of the film and the year of release, plus a mini review/memory of the film plus the link to purchase the film which gives a small donation to this site so we can continue bringing you more AWESOME news and prizes.

84_ Irreversible – January, 2003

Oh Gaspar Noe.  How you have imprinted my brain with your films forever.  Especially with this one.  This is a frightening film on all levels.  Not in the monster way, but in the sick sadistic way we are as human beings.  This film is made backwards with no cuts so as to give the viewer no escape of the darkness in this film.  So the film starts out with  a gruesome murder and you find out why this happened.  It is amazing.  Tons of people walked out on this film when it premiered at Cannes.

83_ Wonder Boys – February 23, 2000

A true writer’s film.  A great film about a college professor who struggles with writing his book, drinking, drugs, killing the dean’s dog, and having an affair with his wife and stealing Marilyn Monroe’s coat.  It is a solid film with Robert Downey Jr., Tobe Maguire, and Michael Douglas.

82_ Dog Soldiers – May 10, 2002

A kick ass Werewolf movie from the director of The Descent and Doomsday.  A military unit is sent on some mission and the all end up dead.  2nd Special ops unit is sent out to find out what happened and they come across werewolves.  Tons of great gore scenes and action sequences with some great comedic dialogue along the way.  One of the great werewolf flicks.

81_ Saw – October 29, 2004

The first film that led the way for all these torture films we have seen recently.  This film is on the list because this film is what it is all about making movies.  Take friends who created this world and made this very tiny budget film shot over two weeks.  An original story, plot, and great dialogue formed this film.  It was unleashed upon the world and has spawned six more films and revived careers as well as created new ones.  It is always great to see new and inventive films.  And we got a new monster movie.  Jigsaw.  If you keep making them, I’ll keep seeing them.

80_ Watchmen – March 4, 2009

A magnificent comic book.  One of the first comics that was a complete adult theme that dealt with rape, murder, and genocide.  It was going to be very difficult to adapt this comic into a film.  But they did it very well.  I loved almost every aspect of this film.  They got it mostly right.  The filming is beautiful, the acting by Jackie Earle Haley is  top notch, and the fight sequences are amazing.  See it if you haven’t already.  Another great one by director Zack Snyder.

79_ Eastern Promises – September 14, 2007

A follow up to History of Violence with same director Cronenberg and actor Viggo Mortensen.  A Russian teenager living in London who dies during childbirth leaves clues to a midwife in her journal that could tie her child to a rape involving a violent Russian mob family.   What a great film.  Extremely violent and what a knife fight scene in a shower.  WOW.

78_ Hero – August 27, 2004

I saw this film a couple years before it was released in the USA.  This is one of the most beautiful films you will ever see.  Picture Lord of the Rings epic, but with a Japanese dynasty war twist.  A series of Rashomon-like flashback accounts shape the story of how one man defeated three assassins who sought to murder the most powerful warlord in pre-unified China.  You haven’t seen anything like it.

77_ One Hour Photo – August 21, 2002

Wow.  Does Robin Williams do an exceptional job at creeping me the fuck out?  YES YES YES.  This film is ungodly awkward and tense.  Robin Williams plays a photo clerk at a supermarket who develops all the customers photos.  Only problem is he has an unhealthy obsession with his customers by stalking them, breaking into their homes, and posting their pictures all over his apartment walls.  CREEPY.  Stellar performance.

76_ A Mighty Wind – April 16, 2003

Another gold gem from Christopher Guest.  This mockumentary is about folk music bands reunited for a one night celebration and the lives they have been living and the anticipation and set up before the big event.  The music is just phenomenal and the comedy is top notch.  Love this film.  I had the distinct pleasure of seeing one of the bands live in concert.  BRAVO.

75_ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – June 4, 2004

The third film in the Harry Potter series is my favorite still.  It is the most beautiful of all of them so far and it is directed by Alfonso Cuaron of Children of Men and Y Tu Mama Tambien fame.  I love this story in particular because it deals with time travel and the relationships of the kids growing up.  Coming of age sort of thing.  I love all these films and this one is at the top of the list.

74_ Spider-Man 2 – June 30, 2004

The amazing sequel that was just as good or better than the first film.  Loved it.  Doc Ock is awesome.  I love the references to Evil Dead and Army of Darkness in this film.

73_ Ocean’s 11 – December 7, 2001

The remake from the rat pack days with an outstanding cast.  This film is so much fun and spawned two sequels.  What works most with these films is the interaction and chemistry between the whole gang.  They are like a big family.  It makes you feel good.  The twists and comedic dialogue are amazing.  I wish for more, but sadly no more.  RIP Bernie Mac.

72_ The Descent – August 4, 2006

A scary film from Doomsday and Dog Soldiers director.  This film seriously freaked me out.  It is a spelunking film.  So take an extreme claustrophobic atmosphere and add monsters to the equation.  I did most certainly sweat during seeing this film.  No men in this film really.  Tons of chicks kicking ass.  Tons of gore and scares.  See it.

71_ Casino Royale – November 17, 2006

The revamp of the James Bond series is GLORIOUS.  The last several have been silly, boring, and unentertaining.  Finally someone came into the series and made badass again.  Daniel Craig brings a new life to James Bond.  I was glas to see him starting out as not a 00 agent and working his way up in the ranks.  It was also good to see Bond get his ass kicked and not be afraid to get dirty and violent.  I am looking forward to more James Bond films.

70_ King Of Kong – August 17, 2007

One of the greatest documentaries ever.  And it is about getting the high score in Donkey Kong.  Yes the arcade game.  But this is again is a classic Good Vs. Evil story but in real life.  Steve Weibe is going for the gold in beating the reigning champs high score.  The reigning champ (Billy Mitchell) will not let him achieve his gold easily.  Tons of shit goes on that is considered fraud and evil and betraying in this film.  It is crazy as well as hilarious.  GO STEVE WEIBE.

69_ Paranormal Activity – September 25, 2009

I really liked this film.  Made on a $15,000.00 budget and has made millions and millions of dollars so far as well as a sequel soon, this film shows us that you do not need any special effects or gadgetry to be scary or great.  Every time the couple is asleep and the famous shot of the entire bedroom and hallway comes on, I tense up and hope nothing happens, but always something does whether it be footsteps, doors opening or closing, sounds, or banging.  This is a scary ghost/demon story.  It definitely made me think twice about walking down the dark hall at night.

TOP 133 FILMS OF THE LAST DECADE (#100 – #85)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2010

Here we are in the Top 100 films of the last decade.  There are some great titles on here.  Enjoy.  As usual, there is the movie title name along with the date it was released, a mini review/memory of the film and a link that takes you to AMAZON where you can purchase the flick for a great price.

100_ Signs – August 2, 2002

I really enjoyed this Alien film from M. Night.  Total Hitchcockian throughout.  That scene with the alien stuck in the pantry of and Mel Gibson tries to get a glimpse of it with the  reflection of a butcher knife is so tense.  If aliens do come to Earth, hopefully they are not hostile.  A very good solid alien film.  Very tense.

99_ Garden State – July 28, 2004

Zach Braff shows the world he is a very talented director, not just a comedic tv actor.  This film has tons of heart and soul in it.  You really feel for the characters. Nothing is forced and it moves along nicely.  Natalie Portman is so lovely in this film. The soundtrack is one of the best of the decade as well. Go Shins.  I wish more films were like this. I look forward to more directorial efforts from Braff.

98_ A Serious Man – October 2, 2009

The latest film from The Coen Bros.  A very dark comedy.  The story follows a Jewish man who has a family, a job, and everything else but respect.  Everyone shits on him.  I can say that if you are NOT jewish or you do not have any jewish friends then you most likely wont get a lot of the film, but this film is hilarious.  This is suppose to be the Coen Bros. Biopic piece about themselves growing up.  I can relate.  Pretty funny.  A must see.

97_ Dawn of the Dead – March 19, 2004

The only complaint I had about this film is that I wish it wasn’t called Dawn of the Dead, which tells people it is a remake of the Romero classic.  It is not, although same story line in a way, but no.  This zombie thriller is BALLS TO THE WALL awesome.  It has got some of the best deaths, chills, and survival scenarios ever.  The scene where they shoot zombies that look like famous people is priceless.  Love this film.  Go James Gunn and Zach Snyder.  Some of the best head shots in cinema history.

96_ Match Point – January 20, 2006

Another Woody Allen film.  This marks the first in a set of films that Woody filmed in England.  This certainly does not play out like a typical Woody Allen film.  It is not funny whatsoever.  It is a serious drama.  So well played out and acted and directed and written.  Everything really.  This film follows a young man who meets a girl from a wealthy family.  The family takes him in as one of their own, buying him and their daughter a house and getting him the job of a lifetime.  This guy has a long affair with the beautiful Scarlett Johanssen.  When our main character wants to break off the affair he does so by murder.  What a film.  A must see.

95_ Hard Candy – April 14, 2006

What a brutal film this was.  A young Ellen Paige is the star in this film.  I literally had the flop sweats when I saw this in the theatre because I was so tense.  Wheww.  Just thinking about it gives me shivers.  Tons of twists and turns in this film. I do not want to give anything away, but seriously….see this film.  It will make you sweat.

94_ Super Troopers – February 16, 2001

Broken Lizards first feature film hit the jackpot and changed our lives forever with the immediate cult icon Officer Rod Farva.  This film follows the Highway patrol team and their hilarious antics with civilians.  People still today quote this film and will for some time.  I remember laughing out loud in the theatre for fifteen minutes straight at the biker line.  If you like comedy, then get off your ass and see this film if you have not already.  You will love it.

93_ Best In Show – September 29, 2000

A wonderful mockumentary from Chris Guest about Dog Shows and the people who take their dogs there.  We all know these types of people.  Dog People.  And it is all sorts of funny to watch all of their worlds crumble.  Oh the nut rant is prime.  This is dry humor at its best and your gut will hurt from all the laughter throughout the film. Stellar performaces all around.  More please.

92_ Fahrenheit 9/11 – June 23, 2004

An amazing documentary about the 9/11 attacks and the events leading up to it and all the questions we had about it.  We just didn’t know the truth, but we do now, and it was not pretty.  Michael Moore was the first to show us the truth on this.  This documentary will anger you and make you laugh and cry.  This is what I think is the start of the fall of George W. Bush.  You see who he really is in this film.  Go M.M.

91_ Black Snake Moan – March 2, 2007

I really did enjoy this little film.  I believe this film was loosely based on the great blues legend R.L. Burnside’s life.  It definitely has the great music to back it up.  Sam Jackson plays a old genuine God Fearing man who comes across a beaten up tramp played by the gorgeous Christina Ricci and takes her in to his home to get her well.  She was left for dead.  She gets all better and Sam Jackson chains her to his heater and he aims to cure her of her wickedness and make her a better person.  It is really good.  See it.

90_ Grindhouse – April 6, 2007

Oh yes. Tarantino and Rodriguez pay homage to the 70’s grindhouse experience by making a double feature of badassery, exploitation, and violence.  An allstar cast in both films.  One film deals with zombies and the other film deals with a crazed killer in a kick ass car.  The soundtrack is out of this world.  If you want to get a group of your friends together and pound a ton of beer and eat tons of junk food, then put this double feature on and enjoy the hell out of it.  So much fun.  I look forward to another double feature in the future from these two brilliant filmmakers.  Thank you for giving me this pleasure.

88_ Thirst – July 31, 2009

A really fantastic Korean Vampire film from the director of OLDBOY.  I like this one so much for its way of showing you every aspect of being a vampire and the guilt it causes and your need to feed.  More vampire films like this.  This director is amazing.  Not too much gore but just enough.

87_ Burn After Reading – September 12, 2008

I loved this Coen Brothers comedy.  Not a lot of people did.  It grows on you.  It is a comedy dram about the US government.  Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, and John Malkovich.  If you liked Big Lebowski, you will like this film.  Tons of laughs.

86_ Night Watch – February 17, 2006

The first film in this Russion Horror trilogy.  This film is pretty epic and I believe is the biggest budget film Russia has ever done.  There are shape shifters, ghosts, murders, robots, monsters, vampires and much much more.  The visuals are stunning.  I highly recommend these films.  Classic Good vs. Evil here.

85_ Sin City – April 1, 2005

Finally the comic book of hardcore comes to the big screen.  I love these comics and the fact that Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino brought in Frank Miller to make this shows me just how brilliant they are in filmmaking.  Pretty much shot for shot and the same dialogue as the comic.  It is beautiful.  I love this modern Noir style.  Mickey Rourke as Marv is genius.  This is gruesome, funny and action packed.  Brittany Murphy does a stellar job in this too.  Cannot wait for the rest of the comics in comic book form.

Top 133 Films of the Last Decade (#133 – #120)

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

Earlier in the year, I made my list of favorite and best films to come out between the years 2000 and 2010.  A ten year span of great films.  Films that I completely forgot about.  Films you may have not even heard of.

So I came up with 133 films which was narrowed down from about 300 or more.  Below is the start of the list which has the film title, the date it was released, and my brief personal memory and review of the film.  Plus the link to purchase the movie for a cheap price.

It was a great time coming up with this list.  It was also fairly difficult once I got down to the last 20 or so because they are in fact in order from great to the absolute best of the year.

So over the next few days I will be posting more titles as we get to the #1 spot.

I hope you enjoy and feel free to comment.

133_ Wet Hot American Summer – July 27, 2001

How could this movie not be on a favorite list?  Especially a list of top films of a decade.  This film is balls out hilarious, but in that silly way.  It takes place in the 80’s at a summer camp on the last day of camp.  Directed by David Wain from Stella, Role Models, and The Ten, with an all-star comedic cast including Janeane Garofalo, Paul Rudd, David Hyde Pierce, Amy Poehler, and Michael Ian Black, amongst others.  There are plenty of quotable lines and tons of gut-busting laughs.

132_ The Bridge – October 27, 2006

This is a very haunting documentary that I remember having many conversations

with people after viewings.  Two filmmakers set out to make a documentary film on the Golden Gate Bridge on its history and beauty.  As they were filming the bridge, the filmmakers noticed people committing suicide by jumping off the bridge quite often.  This documentary is about those suicides and interviews with  the vicitims families and friends.  You will actually see people talking on the phone – hang up – then jump to their death.  It is unforgettable.

131_ Bandits – October 12, 2001

I loved this film with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thorton who stole the show.  These two characters are criminals in jail who break out of prison and go on a bank robbing spree.  It is very heart felt and load of hilarity.  Not any of it seems forced.  Actually, the two bank robbers are the good guys.  Great film that I feel that was missed by a lot of people.  Check it out.

130_ JCVD – June 4, 2008

JCVD as in Jean-Claude Van Damme.  This film is brilliant.  It is fiction mixed in with documentary.  Very strange but oh so good.  This is NO action flick.  AT ALL.  JCVD plays himself in real life.  He is coming to terms that he is just a B movie actor that fights.  His personal life is in shambles and he has no money and his wife is trying to get custody of his kid in the bitter divorce battle.  Add to that while he is getting a wire transfer of money in his home town at the post office, criminals hold everyone hostage and want money and tell the press and officers outside that JCVD is the culprit.  This film is very emotional and very well acted.  Yes.  Very well acted.  I really hope to see what this director does next.  Truly excellent film.

129_ Kung Fu Hustle – April 8, 2005

From the makes of Shaolin Soccer comes King Fu Hustle with Stephen Chow.  This movie is all sorts of fun.  A Kung Fu film that does not take itself seriously and packs high end special effects and lots of laughs.  Typical evil vs good film.  I love these types of films and will always hold a place in my heart for Stephen Chow.

128_ Death To Smoochy – March 29, 2002

I’m a sucker for dark comedies.  This is one of the best.  I great cast of Edward Norton and Robin Williams who play kid tv show personalities who are bitter rivals.  This shows what the seedy underbelly of kids shows are really about.  Such great black humor and very well directed by Danny Devito.  Loved it.

127_ Ginger Snaps – May 11, 2001

A kick ass different take on werewolf movies that involve high school sisters.  Extremely gory and violent with a dark wit that takes you on a great journey on what it is like to transform into a werewolf in high school.  Sexy Werewolves equal AWESOME!

126_ Remember the Titans – September 29, 2000

I remember seeing this film and becoming very emotional while watching it.  Based on a true story in the south about a black high school football coach overcoming racism in the 60’s as he leads his interracial football team to win the championship undefeated.  The soundtrack to this film is top notch and a great performance from Denzel Washington.  One great heart felt Disney Film.

125_ Team America: World Police – October 15, 2004

From the creators of South Park comes a Jerry Bruckhemier/Michael Bay marionette production of a group US citizens who fight the war on terror.  Very crude and lewd and hilarious.  Oh the sex scene is worth the price of admission alone.  America….Fuck Yeah!

124_ Knocked Up – June 1, 2007

The sophomore effort from Judd Apatow is a great film about a stoner schmuck who scores a one night stand with a hot tv personality who becomes pregnant.  Apatow mixes great feeling and emotion with tons of dick jokes.  A perfect combination that makes a successful story and film. The deleted scene with Jonah Hill and Katherine Hiegel discussing Brokeback Mountain is one of the greatest discussions EVER!

123_ The Simpsons Movie – July 27, 2007

Finally!  Fifteen years in the making.  This had everything that I wanted in a Simpsons movie.  Good morals, great story, and lots of laughs and inside jokes made this brilliant movie a masterpiece.  Matt Groening made America’s favorite family a joy to watch all these years and the movie was NOT  a let down.  Keep up the good work.

122_ Chocolate – February 6, 2008

An awesome Thai film about a girl with emotional problems to the ppoint where she is almost non-sociable with anyone.  She has a great fondness for Chocolate and once she sees some Thai Fightin on tv courtesy of Tony Jaa, she learns to fight by watching it and then goes after bad guys in the neighborhood.  A film that has no stunt wires or special effects, but stuntmen who take real hits and fall hard.  A real treat in filmmaking.

121_ School of Rock – October 3, 2003

A perfect combination of Jack Black being Jack Black while Jack Black teaches kids about music and playing rock music.  This movie could have failed in so many places, but I was surprised on every corner.  This film plays very well to all audiences.  If you love music and comedy than this is a film you have to see.  Very well done.

120_ Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone – November 16, 2001

The first film in the whole series created a whole new world to everyone and in filmmaking.  Great filmmaking and acting as well as speical effects made this children’s book come to life and was great for the whole family.
