‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 6th, 2019

“‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ is this year’s most remarkable movie.”

Two unlikely friends pair up for an adventure of a lifetime in ‘The Peanut Butter Falcon‘, (not to be confused with ‘The Peanut Butter Solution‘). With a modest helping of heart, soul, and comedy, along with some sprinkles of Mark Twain, ‘Stand By Me‘, and the best thing in the world – Pro-Wrestling, this film hits all of the right notes from start to finish and quickly became on my favorite movies.

Film Review: ‘Everest’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

everest-movie-2015

Based on the 1996 Mount Everest Disaster where several climbers lost their lives, director Baltasar Kormákur (‘2 Guns‘) shows us what happened in those days that led up to that horrifying experience. I consider myself a little bit of a daredevil here and there. I love to bungee jump whenever I can, although I admit it’s been a while since I have, but I don’t think I have the guts to climb a mountain like Everest, which is the tallest mountain on the globe at almost 30,000 feet in the air. But year after year, people trek out there and climb it and succeed, where others don’t.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage.  I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter.  After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories.  There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.

Film Review: ‘The Sessions’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 8th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I know I’m a tad late with this review, but here it is and I highly recommend it.  Ben Lewin’s film, ‘The Sessions’ is a remarkable film.  The performances that John Hawkes and Helen Hunt give are worthy of any acting award, and Lewin’s ability to tell such a magical and funny tale is done perfectly.  Lewin mixes the art of sex with ethics, humor, religion, and love in a way that you want more.  ‘The Sessions’ is a must see.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books.  ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy.  Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’.  Can’t wait.  Below is the official press release.  Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Films announced include titles in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes. The announced films include 17 Galas and 45 Special Presentations, including 38 world premieres.

Check Out The Trailer for ‘The Sessions’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Based on the poignantly optimistic autobiographical writings of California-based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien, The Sessions tells the story of a man confined to an iron lung who is determined–at age 38–to lose his virginity. With the help of his therapists and the guidance of his priest, he sets out to make his dream a reality.  This film screened at Sundance and was a big hit with the crowds.  It stars John Hawkes, Alan Arkin, William H. Macy, and Helen Hunt.  Ben Lewin served as director.

Hi Bryan Here….

After fleeing his North Carolina hometown, washed-up major-league pitcher Kenny Powers spent a soul-searching season in Mexico as “La Flama Blanca” – and ended up returning to the States a changed man.  Or is he?   Find out when the comedy series EASTBOUND & DOWN, executive produced by Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay, Jody Hill and Danny McBride, kicks off its eight-episode third season SUNDAY, FEB. 19 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, just as real-life baseball spring training begins.  The new comedy series “Life’s Too Short” debuts immediately after the season debut at 10:30 p.m.  Jason Sudeikis joins the cast this season.

Hi Bryan Here…

This little gem of a film is exactly that.  Remarkable and nail biting as all hell.  I knew very little walking into ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’, but after its viewing, I knew I witnessed something special and spectacular.  The less you know about the film going in the better, so I will try to keep this review light on spoilers.  Bu tI just walked away from this film with a new hope for filmmaking and storytelling. With so much crap out there these days, it was so refreshing to see this film.  ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’ was original, beautifully shot, tense, scary, darkly romantic, and very well acted.  I wish I could buy a ticket for the world to see this movie.

Bluray/DVD Releases for the 4th Week of November!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 23rd, 2010

Hi Bryan Here…

The biggest shopping day is upon us and the holiday shopping spree season has already begun.  I am kinda disappointed in this lack of releases this week.  I figured the studios would be pushing their biggest titles this week because it is the largest shopping weekend and weekend of the year.  But they just sort of half-assed it.  Maybe because of all the incredible sales on past releases that have started and will continue on through Monday.  Oh well.  As usual, you will get some info about the disc and the extras that come with the movie as well as a personal opinion about the movie and a link to purchase the film over at AMAZON where you can save quite a bit of money, and it will give a small percentage kick back to this site so we can continue bringing you excellent stories and sales.

Enjoy and Here We Go!!
