Hello, Jana here,

beauty-of-helen-mirren-2

Ryan Reynolds is the latest to join Helen Mirren in The Weinstein Company’s ‘Woman In Gold‘ or ‘The Golden Lady‘, not sure which title they are going to go with. Daniel Bruhl is in negotiations, at this point. Mirren will play real-life heroine Maria Altmann,  a Jewish WWII survivor who fought the Austrian government to get back several paintings by Gustav Klimt that were stolen from her family during wartime. Reynolds will play the attorney who took this case despite knowing little about art and Bruhl, will play his adversary.  Looks like George Clooney’sThe Monument’s Men‘ missed a few paintings.

THE GOOD LIAR – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 16th, 2019

“If you love Mirren and McKellen, I wouldn’t miss The Good Liar, as their performances are always good.”

The Good Liar pairs Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen in what purports to be a twisty cat-mouse thriller. The two actors are by far the most thrilling part of the film, as there’s not much of a thriller to be seen. The performances though are quite enjoyable and the pairing is one that brings an otherwise bland con-game to life on screen. This film, directed by Bill Condon (Beauty and the Beast) brings Nicholas Searles’ novel to life; however, I think it may have unfolded better page after page in a nice reading nook than in a dark theater over two hours.

Blu-ray Review: The Fate of the Furious!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM

We’re eight movies into this franchise, which would have you assume that these films would have lost steam, been remade, or have a completely new cast. That’s not the case at all with ‘Fate of the Furious‘ or the 8th installment of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise, because there are no signs of this franchise slowing down, being remade, or losing any of its fun cast.

Dan M. Gives His Thoughts on ‘Fate of the Furious’!

Dan M., here….

Fast & Furious: Civil War

(Feel free so scroll to the bottom if you’re here to talk Jason Statham.)

After the death of Paul Walker and the 7th film there has been lots of speculation as to where the Fast & Furious franchise would go and the 8th movie definitively answers that question: Anywhere it damn well pleases. By the end of The Fate of the Furious, the loudest, most insane, and dumbest (in a good way) entry in the series, the stage is set for 100 more of these films and I’d sign up for 99 of them. While many franchises are working as hard as they can to justify spinoffs and team up films, the Fast & Furious put itself in a position to justify a number of spinoffs. As a film universe goes, Fast & Furious is behind only Marvel.

Dan M., Here….

fast-and-furious-04252011

I saw The Fast and The Furious when I was 14 or 15. As someone who grew up watching Point Break on VHS and other 80s/90s action movies it was right in my wheel house. I have never been a car guy but I still remember that summer talking with my friends about Honda Civics, Nos, and spoilers that we’d all be getting when we turned 16. The first movie is a step by step remake of Point Break, right down to letting the “bad guy” go at the end with “I owe you a 10 second car” instead of “Vaya Con Dios.” It stared two relatively unknowns in Paul Walker and Vin Diesel who will never be confused with Daniel Day Lewis but were born to play these parts. Ultimately was a fun summer popcorn movie that no one thought they’d hear from again, let alone turn into an almost 4 billion dollar franchise.

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

Film Review: ‘Trumbo’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 13th, 2015

Rebecca S., Here…

trumbo

I went into ‘Trumbo’ expecting a slightly dull, somewhat stoic look at Hollywood’s past transgressions during the Communist scare at the height of the cold war. However, the movie ‘Trumbo‘ I watched, was interesting, heartwarming, infuriating, lovely and, surprisingly very funny.  I may have trouble writing this review because there are only so many ways to say “it’s so, SO good. Go see it!”… but I’ll give it a try.

Movie Quotes

Isabella:
Dear Alice , you disappeared like anyone else. But who else can i talk to? I'm lost. When you left - when he left - you took everything with you. But the absence of him is everywhere I look , its like a huge hole has been punched through my chest. But in a way I'm glad . The pain is the only reminder that he was real- that you all were real.
