Film Review: ‘Million Dollar Arm’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 15th, 2014

Hillary T., Here….

Million Dollar Arm Film

This was another film I was unsure about. Of course I adore Jon Hamm, and his work on Mad Men is beyond incredible. And Lake Bell is a definite keeper after seeing her film “In A World” and her recurring role on ‘Children’s Hospital. But this movie could have been a hit or miss for me. Disney has made a great family movie with ‘Million Dollar Arm‘ that I wasn’t expecting to get sucked into and obviously invested in. You can tell it was passionately and lovingly made and disney quite possibly has a home-run on their hands.

by Gumbercules9000 on May 10th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

Jon Ham (Mad Men) has joined the cast of ‘Million Dollar Arm’ where he’ll play a sports agent based on real life agent J.B. Bernstein.  Bernstein discovered professional pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel through a reality show he staged in India with cricket players.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Seriously people.  What the fuck?  The worst movie of all time is re-released in theaters in 3D and rakes in $73.4 million dollars in two weeks.  Did you think the movie somehow over time became better?  This is beyond belief.  So far ‘Episode 1’ has made over 1,009.4 billion dollars which will soon pass ‘The Dark Knight’ for the number 10 top grossing movie of all time. $1.5 million away to be exact.  So you know it’s going to happen.

Hi Bryan Here….

The Geek Deal of the Day is all about ‘The Office’.  Each season is on bluray and comes with tons of extras and that glorious 1080p HD transfer.  Plus, I think this might be some of the cheapest ‘Office’ on bluray ever, so take advantage.  I mean for over 70% off, you can’t beat that.  These would add to your collection or be great gifts for someone.  Enjoy.

LP Review: ‘Luke Cage Season 2’ Soundtrack!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2018

Marvel is certainly on a roll with their content over this past decade with their billion dollar movies and their successful television shows across multiple platforms. One of these shows is called ‘Luke Cage‘, which just debuted its second season on Netflix. Luke Cage was the first black superhero in comic books to be featured as the main protagonist with his name as the title. Cage is an ex-convict who was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit who was experimented on, thus creating his superpowers of strength and unbreakable skin. Once he hones in on these powers, he basically becomes a hero for hire and is one of the coolest characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

4K UHD Review: ‘Ready Player One’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 18th, 2018

THE FILM

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is finally upon us with Steven Spielberg’s return to the fantasy/sci-fi realm in ‘Ready Player One‘, which is based on the pop-culture fandom novel from 2011 of the same name by author Ernest Cline. The novel was a best-seller and was chock-full of the 1980s and 1990s references in the form of video games, movies, TV shows, and more. in fact, every page of the book was like reading a nostalgic diary of your past childhood favorite things. ‘Ready Player One‘ takes places a few decades into the future where a simulated and very realistic virtual reality game is the main form of entertainment where people put on goggles and can be anyone or anything they want.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Ninja III: The Domination’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 14th, 2018

THE FILM

Back in 1984, the world was given a movie by the name of ‘Ninja III: The Domination‘, which was the third film in a trilogy. If you were to go back and watch all three Ninja films, you’d be hard pressed to find a similar tone or continuity throughout each of them, minus a small ninja aspect. After the first two ‘Ninja‘ films, it was time to throw everything in the bag, including the kitchen sink, which eventually became ‘Ninja III: The Domination‘. The movie plays out like Hunter S. Thompson wrote it over a drug-induced bender in Vegas, but only had a few dollars to make the film that is a mix between ‘Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo‘, a horror film, and the wackiest Kung-Fu movie this side of the Mississippi. In fact, the star and director of ‘Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo‘ also star and direct ‘Ninja III‘, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. This is a film that I imagine had fantastic intentions and thought it was going to be the biggest blockbuster ever made, but the results gave us something much more. It gave us a movie that was so beyond weird and insane, that cult audiences around the world fell in love with it and keep it alive still to this day.

National Lampoon’s Van Wilder‘ came out sixteen years ago and more or less re-lit the fire for National Lampoon. This also paved the way for Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds, as this was his first feature film in a leading role. Some of the jokes don’t hit too well in our current politically correct culture, but it’s silly enough to have fun with it. It’s just unfortunate that the filmmakers went the gross-out humor route solely and failed to develop these good characters, but that seemed to be the case in 2002. Also, it’s unfortunate that this is not a new remaster or transfer. This is the same video and audio presentations from the 2007 Blu-ray release, which of course had its problems. I imagine Lionsgate is trying to make a quick and easy dollar for the release of ‘Deadpool 2‘, hence this re-release that has no new extras on it. Still, if you’re a fan of the film and want the Digital Copy, this is a way to get it.

Blu-ray Review: ‘I, Tonya’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

Yes, I’m old enough to have been alive and understand all that went down back in 1994, in regards to the Olympic Figure Skating competitors. Specifically that of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. It was such a media circus of epic proportions and very bizarre culmination of events that made worldwide news for months and even years after the 1994 Olympic games. Directed by Craig Gillespie (‘Lars and the Real Girl’, ‘Fright Night’, ‘Million Dollar Arm’), ‘I, Tonya‘ follows the life of Tonya Harding, from her upbringing, her abusive home-life with her mother and other relationships, that lead to her competing in figure skating and the infamous attack on her USA teammate Nancy Kerrigan.

Software App Review: ‘Film Budgeteers’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 3rd, 2018

THE PROGRAM

When preparing to make a movie, short film, or TV series, there are quite possibly a million things that you will have to decide on and plan in advance to get the ball rolling to execute your vision on screen. Actors, crew members, marketing, sets, props, makeup, hair-styling, food, lighting, cameras, and tons of other aspects are required to make a movie. Unless you’re making a movie in your own home, by yourself with your iPhone, I’m willing to bet your film – no matter how big or small it is, will require you to pony up some money for it to be made. Now, pretty much all films have a budget. A budget can be as small as $5000 or can be as huge as $250 million. You’re going to have to budget and not go over your budget in order for you film to work. So how can you work out a film budget on paper that shows where all the money is going to? Usually, you would hire someone for that, but there’s a new app in town called ‘Film Budgeteers‘, which essentially does all the work for you.

4K UHD Review: ‘The Dark Knight Rises’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

The threats of terrorism, war, chaos, and financial ruin are all too real these days.  ’The Dark Knight Rises’ dives into these issues on a massive scale, which makes any film in the Marvel universe look like mere “child’s play” (no reference to a knife-wielding murderous doll).  Compared with the other Batman movies, everything is bigger in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and there is so much more at stake.  Not one second of this film is wasted, the writing and direction is straight to the point, cohesive, and comes across as totally fulfilling in its 164 minute run-time.

Sicario 2: Soldado Trailer is Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 19th, 2017

Sicario‘ was one of the better films of 2015. It was only fitting that we would receive a sequel called ‘Sicario 2: Soldado‘ that stars Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener. In this sequel, Benicio and Brolin team up to fight the cartel and their terrorist on US soil, which looks to be super violent and suspenseful. Taylor Sheridan has returned to write the screenplay, but director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) has not returned.

Ocean’s 8 Full movie Trailer is Here!

We’ve been hearing for a while that there will be a full female film called ‘Ocean’s 8‘, which will coincide with the ‘Ocean’s 11‘ movies. In fact, Sandra Bullock will play Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) sister with Cate Blanchett playing the role that Brad Pitt played in the trilogy of movies. It looks to be set in the same universe and stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, with Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter. There will be many other cameos as well, including Matt Damon, reprising his role as Linus.

Is this a dream? I’m dreaming, right? Quentin Tarantino is about to beam up to the ‘Star Trek‘ franchise and that’s not joke. Tarantino, who is a big fan of all films, came up with a ‘Star Trek‘ storyline for a new film and talked with JJ Abrams about it. Abrams liked it so much, because why wouldn’t he, and the two have started to assemble a writer’s room who will knock out a big script based on Tarantino’s idea.

Hey Riggs! ‘Lethal Weapon 5’ Might Happen!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 27th, 2017

You’re never too old for this shit as Warner Bros. is talking with everyone about a new ‘Lethal Weapon‘ film that brings back the original cast. According to some sources, director Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, Superman, The Goonies) would return in the director’s chair with Channing Gibson writing the screenplay. That name isn’t a typo either. Channing Gibson wrote ‘Lethal Weapon 4‘ and ‘Walking Tall‘ with The Rock. This would also bring back Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in their respective and iconic roles.

Written By Bryan Kluger:

THE FILM

(This film review portion was written by Dan Moran.)

The fifth installment of Disney’s nearly $4 billion dollar franchise is a Pirates movie through and through. It is about 20 minutes too long, has a needlessly complex plot, fantastic action set pieces, and way too many characters. I found it to be a real roller coaster viewing experience, where some points I was loving every single second of what was on screen and others I wanted to check my phone to see how much longer was left. There were no scenes in this entire movie that I was just ‘Ok’ with. I was either loving it or tolerating it. When it was all over I was pleased with the ending and, more importantly, that it ended.

Netflix is Raising Prices Again!

Prices are going up 10%, which is only a dollar a month, making it $10.99 now. Film Review: War For The Planet of the Apes!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 12th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

I believe we all thought that Tim Burton killed the Planet of the Apes franchise back in 2001 with his horrible version of man vs. ape. Luckily in 2011, the studio breathed new life into the franchise with Rupert Wyatt’s early telling of what is to become with Planet of the Apes with astonishing visual effects, acting, and one hell of a story. That film – Rise of the Planet of the Apes showed that one ape named Caesar (Andy Serkis) was to become the first highly intelligent and humanized ape, but it came at a great cost with a virus that wiped out most of Earth’s population. In the sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes that was taken over by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), Caesar and his ape friend are battling for their lives against the humans that have survived the virus outbreak. Now we have arrived at the conclusion of this epic trilogy – War For The Planet of the Apes, with Reeves in the director’s chair again as we see an aging and grayish haired Caesar tending to his family and still battling the demons of his former human-hating friend Koba, whom was killed in the previous film.

Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

Ever since Keanu Reeves jumped into the role of John Wick in 2014, we all have wanted a sequel in the worst way. Filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch created a monster of a franchise with that film that brought the action genre back to a high point. That first film had a simple story and some of the best action sequences in a long time. Some bad guys steal John Wick’s car and kill his precious puppy dog a few days after his wife dies. Not knowing John Wick is the best assassin in the world, Wick sets out on revenge and literally kills everybody. It was just so good and showed the world what everyone secretly wants to do if some jerk killed your dog. The first film had a modest budget of only $20 million, but ended up making almost $90 million, which leads us to future sequels.

If done right, who doesn’t appreciate a muscular war film decorated with a cherry of passion on top? fast-and-furious-04252011

I saw The Fast and The Furious when I was 14 or 15. As someone who grew up watching Point Break on VHS and other 80s/90s action movies it was right in my wheel house. I have never been a car guy but I still remember that summer talking with my friends about Honda Civics, Nos, and spoilers that we’d all be getting when we turned 16. The first movie is a step by step remake of Point Break, right down to letting the “bad guy” go at the end with “I owe you a 10 second car” instead of “Vaya Con Dios.” It stared two relatively unknowns in Paul Walker and Vin Diesel who will never be confused with Daniel Day Lewis but were born to play these parts. Ultimately was a fun summer popcorn movie that no one thought they’d hear from again, let alone turn into an almost 4 billion dollar franchise.

Just What is ‘Extortion’?

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

How much would you pay someone that has kidnapped your family and threatening to kill them if you don’t pay them millions of dollars? If money wasn’t in the cars, what would you do in that particular situation? That’s the question that is asked in a new film called ‘Extortion’, which stars Danny Glover, Eion Bailey (Once Upon a Time), and Oscar nominated actor Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips). If I was in this situation, I feel I would have two options. One, cut my losses and start over with beautiful wife (or wives) with big breasts with all the cocaine and Dr. Pepper we can handle, OR I would hire John Wick to take care of things. Since the latter option is movie magic, I’m going with option one. It’s what God would have wanted anyway.

Film Review: ‘Rings’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 3rd, 2017

Dan M., here….

the-ring-the-ring-33255133-853-480

I went back and streamed The Ring to make sure I remembered what the movie was about. Before I started it, I remember that this was a top 10 hand-holding movie back in high school when it came out. I obviously knew that some ghost girl who died in a well would come out a TV and kill anyone who watched a VHS tape. After catching up 15 years later, I can confirm that I have a photographic memory and the entire movie is about watching a tape that sends a creepy girl through the TV to kill you. That girl is named Samara and she is still creepy to look at. Horror movies are such a weird creature because they often contain some really great conflicts. The way to save yourself from being murdered through your TV is to make a copy of the tape and send it on to someone else. The internal conflict of that was actually explored pretty well in the first Ring movie. I was hoping this would be explored more in RINGS so I headed off to the theater.

the-founder-movie-2016-trailer-michael-keaton

As a lawyer, one of the first things they teach you is to always put things in writing. As a criminal lawyer, one of the first things I tell people is never put things in writing. ‘The Founder‘ is a lesson in contracts and how as Roy Kroc says, “Contracts are like hearts, they were made to be broken.” This film explores the story of how McDonalds became more than just a local burger joint- exploding onto the map as a nationwide franchise. Quite honestly, it was darker than I expected, and cast a bit of a cloud on the French fried potato goodness that is Micky D’s, but I suppose that when you pull back the curtain and expose the inner workings of any organization, you are bound to find a few skeletons in the closet.

Film Review: ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 19th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Has it really been 15 years since we last saw Vin Diesel as Xander Cage, jumping off mountains and beating up the bad guys across the globe? Why yes it has. Only a few years later, we got a ‘xXx‘ sequel with Ice Cube in the spotlight, rather than Vin Diesel. It was stated in the sequel that Vin Diesel’s character was killed off, leaving Ice Cube to pick up the pieces and become the action star in the early 2000s. Now, it’s 2017 and Vin Diesel makes $1 billion dollar ‘Fast and Furious’ movies, so Hollywood finally gave the greenlight to another ‘xXx‘ film that has Diesel returning as Xander Cage, despite the fact that he’s already dead. These things don’t matter with this third installment, titled ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage‘.

Film Review: ‘Go North’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

NORTH25

Documentary filmmaker Matt Ogens brings his narrative screenplay to life with ‘Go North‘, which is a post-apocalyptic story with kids. Of course, we’ve seen this genre and story play out time and time again over the past several years with tons of young adult movies that involve kids in a ravaged post apocalyptic scenario. These films all run together, because they are in fact all the same movie with different titles and character names. ‘Go North‘ breaks the mold in one certain aspect, in that it doesn’t take place in a largely dilapidated big city scape in the future with hundreds of millions of dollars going to dumb CGI effects or any big over-the-top action sequences that may involve monsters, robots, zombies, or any combination of the three. Instead, this is a fairly low budget film with none of the above, which is a breath of fresh air in this over-saturated genre.

What’s better than watching 1970’s TV series? Watching a movie based on the show that’s full of throwback glory written and directed by the one and only Mr. Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard. Warner Bros. debuts the trailer for ‘CHIPs‘. Shepard gets another credit for starring in this film that looks to be one of the funniest things I’ve seen. Dax stars as Jon Baker and Michael Peña co-stars as Frank ‘Ponch’ Poncherello. Lindsey Taylor, Adam Brody and Ryan Hansen co-star with an ensemble cast that is just flat-out hilarious.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM

Have you read ‘Hunger Games’?  Do you know what ‘Hunger Games’ is about?  If not you’re in for a real treat.  ‘Hunger Games’ is based on a trilogy of novels by Suzanne Collins.  It’s geared towards young adults.  The premise is a whole lot like ‘Battle Royale’ where a group of young kids or teenagers are picked in a lottery system to battle each other in a designated area until there is only one survivor.

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The-Secret-Life-of-Pets-3

It seems like there are a wealth of animated talking animal movies these days. With Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks releasing ‘Zootopia‘, ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, ‘Finding Dory‘ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3‘ recently, it only seems fair that Universal dipped their hands into the sub-genre as well with ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘. Universal’s animation studio Illumination Entertainment brought us ‘Despicable Me‘ and those darn ‘Minions‘ to the big screen, which has made the entertainment business billions of dollars. It seems logical for the studio to cash in on the talking animal genre now, since everyone else is doing it, however with an already over-crowded market for these films, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ may fall short of beating out ‘Zootopia‘ and ‘Finding Dory‘ in both the financial and critical realms. I’m not saying that ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ is a bad movie or anything. In fact there are some great moments that are funny and charming, but it loses itself in the second half of the film when it becomes an action-caper movie that becomes over-the-top and even drags in its short run time of less than 90 minutes.

Jodie Foster has proven yet again that she is a force to be reckoned with both in front of and behind the camera with Money Monster, which stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts. The premise is familiar, so stop me if you’ve heard this one. A large investment firm loses millions of dollars, leaving investors confused and looking for answers. In this case, the firm is IBIS, and Kyle Budwell (Jack O’Connell) refuses to accept that the loss of his life savings is due to a “computer glitch.” Budwell is determined to find out the truth and takes financial talk show host Lee Gates (Clooney) hostage in an attempt to get answers and discover the real story.

Film Review: ‘X-MEN: APOCALYPSE’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 9th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

cdn.indiewire.psdops

And we are back with yet another ‘X-MEN‘ movie, marking this the 9th film in the franchise, that is if you count the ‘Wolverine’ movies and what not. If you’re just counting purely ‘X-MEN‘ films, than this is number six with it being number 4 from director Bryan Singer, who started this whole comic book movie crazy back sixteen years ago with the first ‘X-Men‘ film. From there, we have seen the Marvel and DC Universe take off into a multi-billion dollar industry. It’s quite mind boggling, and this new film ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ seems to take everything we’ve seen since Matthew Vaughn’s ‘First Class’ and sculpt it into this one film.

We all remember the horrible times from 2007-2010 with all that went on with the housing crises and stock market crash. Tons of people lost their homes, went broke, lost their jobs, and even committed suicide. This was all due to the major banks and loan officers, giving people bad loans no matter what their income situation was. It’s odd that it has taken this long for a sequel to come out for this. Sure, there was a short-lived television show, but that’s because most of the original cast and crew did NOT return. ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding‘ cost $5 million to make and was produced by Tom Hanks himself. This little romantic comedy ended up making $369 million dollars in the box office. Now if that isn’t a mega hit, I don’t know what is.

It’s been 35 years since we last saw Charlie Brown and his friends grace screens with a new film, but in this era of reboots and bringing vintage and retro projects back to the limelight, 20th Century Fox has brought back the Peanuts in a big way. How big? A $100 million dollar CGI ‘Peanuts Movie‘, that’s how big. Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The year 2015 marks the 24th ‘James Bond‘ film in the 007 franchise. It also marks the most expensive Bond film to date, which is also in the top two most expensive films ever made with a budget of over $300 million. Even in addition to that, this new 007 movie, titled ‘Spectre‘ is the longest running Bond film with a runtime of 148 minutes. With the billion dollar success and critical acclaim from ‘Skyfall‘ a couple of years ago, the studio and its executives thought it would be a good idea to go bigger and “better” on everything. That’s not always a good thing, as is the case with ‘Spectre‘, which is bloated and disappointing.

I’ve been talking about it for almost two years now and finally Dallas will host Wrestlemania of the 32nd kind! WWE just announced when tickets will go on sale, which will be November 6th, which is just about one month from this very day. Wrestlemania will be held at AT&T Stadium, which most likely will go down in history and break world records for the most attended event EVER. I’m expecting around 103,000 people there. Not much is known about matches, but I would venture to guess Stone Cold Steve Austin, HBK, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, and the Undertaker will all be in the ring at some point. Oh yes, and The Rock should be there as well or at least I hope. This will definitely be the biggest Wrestlemania yet. Official announcement below.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Finally, we have M. Night Shyamlan back in rare form with his new horror-comedy film ‘The Visit‘, which definitely doesn’t look like a Shyamalan movie at all. In fact, this is one of those “found footage” movies that rejuvenates this sub-genre of filmmaking once again. The world was introduced to M. Night Shyamalan back in 1999 with his hit film ‘The Sixth Sense‘, which quickly led the young director to superstardom as one of the coolest and imaginative directors of this modern era. Not only that, but he re-invented the “twist ending” again, which became a trademark of his down the road.

THE FILM

I remember first seeing Wes Craven’sThe People Under The Stairs‘ on my television at home, when I rented it on VHS at the local video store, back when they had movie rental locations in the early 90s. I had already seen ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street‘ and knew who Craven was at that point, and I knew I had to see his new film. I instantly loved it, as it followed a kid my age in the film. I thought it was quite funny and scary all at the same time as Craven perfectly balanced the two genres here. It also did quite well in theaters, making over $31 million dollars on a $6 million dollar budget, and went on to become one of the cult classics we still love and cherish on television today.

Given Robert Downey Jr’s current state of badassery and awesomeness, I can’t think of anything he could do that would not bring in the fans. Once he turned the corner on his bad boy behavior in the 1980’s, he’s the equivalent of a golden ticket. Team Downey, which consists of RDJ and his wife, Susan Downey, has been harboring the idea of a fairy tale they want to give the live-action treatment. The tale of Pinocchio is one RDJ has been developing for years, somewhat on the sly, with Michael Mitnick (‘The Giver‘) writing the most recent draft while RDJ is ready to board the project as Geppetto, the toy maker.

It’s difficult to talk about ‘Fast and Furious 7‘ or how it’s billed ‘Furious 7‘, without mentioning the tragic accident that cost actor Paul Walker his life back in November. This accident was not part of filming, but did drastically change the story line and halted production for quite a while. Walker had not finished filming his scenes, but you wouldn’t know it, as the filmmakers used a combination of amazing CGI and stunt doubles to add him through the entire film. It’s seamless and flawless in that aspect, and yes, there is a very moving tribute to him at the end of the film, which might cause you to choke back a few tears. I know I had too.

The art of deception and the big con job are at the center of ‘Focus‘, which is a very sleek film full of charm, wit, and a giant basket of twists and turns that will have you yelling in your seat. There isn’t anything relatively new or fresh here in the form of changing the game or genre of the ‘con-artist’ film, but with Will Smith and Margot Robbie’s performances and the luxurious and glossy look this film has, this deceptive film has a place of its own with the rest of the fun thief movies we’ve seen. If it weren’t for ‘101 Dalmatians‘, we might not have had any more Disney animated films, including ‘The Lion King‘ or even ‘Wreck it Ralph‘. Back in 1959, ‘Sleeping Beauty‘ failed to live up to expectations and didn’t make enough money for Disney to do another project. In fact, it got so bad at Disney, that people were being let go and the studio doors were on the verge of being shut for good. Can you imagine that? No more Disney animated films after 1959? Comic Con: Dallas Fan Days 2015!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 9th, 2015

Hillary T., Here…

cc011

As a fangirl, I love comics and dressing up. I love being someone else for one day and let’s not lie, Comic Con is my mother ship. This weekend was no exception. I spent two days basking the glory and adoration that was formerly Sci-Fi Expo and is now Fan Days 2.0! It’s my family, and walking through the doors of the Irving Convention Center is always like being at home. It is very much like a space ship or the Sandcrawler from ‘Star Wars’, with its four levels, an over powering awning, and yet, when the parking attendant took mine and Taylor’s (lead camera) money, we were excited and ready to get out of the car and start mingling with everyone and see what Fan Days 2015 had to offer. I decided to go ahead and dress up, because hey, who doesn’t like it when press looks like someone else? My costume of choice? Totally obscure and amazing! I was ready to go as Special Agent Dale Cooper, from Twin Peaks. I even brought along a thermos of “Damn fine coffee,” and a bag of donuts. Dead Laura Palmer would be waiting for me at the convention, for sure!

I love comic books, really I do, but the entertainment world is killing them! Today’s kids probably don’t even realize there were these papers covered in bright colors that told a story through word bubbles and POW’s and ZAP’s, we called them comic books. We used to pick them up and read a story about our favorite supes. Why would anyone pick up a comic book when they can just pull out the movie or series about that hero? The supe up for screen treatment is Supergirl.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The-Conjuring-HD-Wallpaper

In a move that should come as no surprise, ‘The Conjuring 2‘ has been announced and given a release date of June 10, 2016. Original plans were to release it before Halloween next year, but New Line decided to move it back to 2016.

Hey guys, Jana here,

When I was told director David Ayer was going to bring one of my favorite comics, ‘Suicide Squad‘ to life, I got excited and happy that immediately turned into stomach churning nausea. Why would I have such an extreme reaction to this news? I mean, comic books have been inspiration and fodder for dozens of high dollar productions, why would this be different? I’ll tell you what bothers me about it, the casting for the villains needs to be impeccable.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The 80’s were all about excess. If you liked neon, you didn’t wear just a little bit of neon in your wardrobe, you saturated yourself with it, if you wore makeup, it was caked on thicker than Dee Snider’s and if you watched a cartoon about a rich kid, he had to be the most opulent image of wealth a kid could fathom which basically came down to swimming in a pool of money with a dog named Dollar.

Marvel made an announcement today, actually several announcements, about the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’ve all been hearing rumors about upcoming projects but nothing has been verified until today. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage to lay out a timeline for their next few films.

In the category of we-all-knew-it-would-happen-eventually Marvel is paving the way for an epic battle between Captain America and Iron Man with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr will reprise their previous roles and Chadwick Boseman will make his first appearance as the Black Panther. Cap’s Civil War hits big screens on May 6, 2016.

Set against the backdrop of a post apocalypse-dystopian world comes the annual Hunger Games! We’ve read the books, watched the first 2 films, elevated Jennifer Lawrence to the new generations ‘It’ girl. She would be the perfect best friend, sister or girlfriend. As the breakout star, Lawrence has her pick of the projects she’s wanted to do, JLaw has shaken things up a bit with her choices, whether they challenged her as an actor, had a dream team she was dying to work with, or if it was just a story she read that she couldn’t wait to tell, fans have stayed close to their new heroine and ticket sales have proven that JLaw will bring the dollars.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Game_of_thrones_cast

Occasionally things go so right in my world that it feels as if the collective gods have smiled down on me. HBO is going to offer its own stand-alone streaming service beginning next year! This bit of info…and the pint of Ben & Jerry’s awaiting me after dinner feels like a warm hug at the end of a craptastic day. I have been hoping and praying for a service like this from the premium channel. I’m among the number of people that are living with the cord cut from cable and satellite conglomerates. I don’t have any real problem with the situation, sometimes I miss the live showing of ‘The Walking Dead‘, but in a few hours I’m watching it anyway, I can deal with that. The real problem comes when I want to watch a favorite series without digging through my cabinet of DVD’s or *oh mon Dieu* I don’t have the series, yet.  This has been the exact scenario that led me to the pitiful prayer for an HBO streaming service.

‘American Horror Story’ Renewed For Fifth Season!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 13th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

American-Horror-Story-Freak-Show

Ryan Murphy has some good ideas and even better success with the TV series those ideas grow into. What starts as a thought, turns into a multi-million dollar hit that networks should fight over. FX has taken a solid stand beside Murphy with ‘American Horror Story‘. What started out as a quirky storyline with one hell of a supernatural undercurrent became the AHS we love. With a unique setting and storyline for each season, the fan following seemed to grow overnight and never went away.

“Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?” That’s right, ‘Rush Hour‘, which has had three successful feature films that starred Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan as police detectives is being remade. But it won’t be a feature film. Instead it will be an action series for Warner Bros. TV. Bill Lawrence (‘Scrubs‘) and Brett Ratner (‘Rush Hour‘) will serve as showrunners and producers.

Film Review: ‘ Cub’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 19th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Straight out of Belgium comes a little horror movie called ‘Welp‘, otherwise known as ‘Cub‘ here in North America. ‘Cub‘ is a true return to the horror-slasher genre. I’ve never seen a slasher movie so brutal before. Usually, we see some form of jerk-off teenagers who plan a weekend vacation to get stoned, have sex, and drink like fishes. Then some supernatural force usually comes back to life or out from hiding to off each victim one by one in some gruesome fashion.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

batman25th

Since we are all still celebrating the 75th anniversary of our favorite hero ‘Batman‘, Warner Bros. has just announced that they will be releasing a special edition of 1989 ‘Batman‘ film that starred Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as The Joker. It will be called ‘Batman 25th Anniversary Two-Disc Edition, and will be on Blu-ray starting November 11th (2 days after my birthday – hint, hint). The new packaging is pretty cool as well and will fit nicely in for those of you who add this to your collection. But the big news is that this set also includes a new film called ‘Batman: The Birth of the Modern Blockbuster‘, which is a look at how the marketing and merchandising for this film set the stage for the rest of the superhero films to present day.

Is There a ‘Kick-Ass’ 3 In The Works?!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey fanboys and girls, Jana here,

MV5BMTMzNzEzMDYxM15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTc0NTMxMw@@._V1_SX640_SY720_

You may be asking yourself what is in the future for ‘Kick-Ass‘. Let me fill you in on the latest. When Mark Millar, the creator of the comic books the movies are based on, he’s not sure either. The freshman offering from the Kick-Ass universe took fans by storm and surprise. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve re-watched the movie, punched the air in victory or sat in shock watching the death of Big Daddy. Hit Girl is my personal favorite and I’ve tried telling my son numerous times that if he finds a girlfriend one day like her, I’ll be happy.

The film made stars out of relatively no-name actors Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz and moved them up to major players in the acting world from the bit parts they had been accepting. The budget for ‘Kick-Ass’ was a trifling $28 million dollars but brought $100 million at box offices and earned another $140 million in DVD sales. This kind of revenue would make any production company eager to sign on for a sequel and that’s what happened.

Sequel to TMNT Announced!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 11th, 2014

Hey everyone, Jana here,

Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtletop

I get so sad for the future of American film some days. This film is a perfect case-in-point. First off, we had to know that once Michael Bay got his hands on the film rights to one of my childhood favorites, ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘, that regular rules of paying respect, homage, or even a gentle nod to their beginnings as a comic book was a long shot. I think the first warning of potential trouble had to come when we saw Bay was involved. Most people would think well, he’s just a producer and not going to direct and be such a vital part of the final product. Those people would be wrong.

Film Review: Guardians of the Galaxy’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 30th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-Movie-Trailer-Pic

Since Marvel became their own movie studio back in 2008 with the first ‘Iron Man‘ movie, they have quickly become one of the most lucrative movie studios in Hollywood in less than ten years. With films like ‘Iron Man‘, ‘Thor‘, ‘Captain America‘, ‘Hulk‘, and the billion dollar blockbuster ‘The Avengers‘, you can see why so many people stand in line for hours on end to see the top visual effects, greatest actors, and the fun and thrilling story lines for their favorite superheroes. And of course we all know that Marvel is now famous for connecting each of their films with cameos of heroes from other movies and those exciting end credit sequences after each of their films.
