Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment brings Hugh Jackman’s celebrated seventeen-year run as Wolverine to a close when the box office phenomenon Logan arrives on Digital HD on May 16 and 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™and DVD May 23. Sir Patrick Stewart (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Star Trek: The Next Generation), Stephen Merchant (Hello Ladies, The Office), Boyd Holbrook (Narcos) and newcomer Dafne Keen join Jackman in the iconic character’s final chapter, directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine, Walk the Line).

You can mark another win for Drafthouse Films, the film company connected to The Alamo Drafthouse Theater chain. This past week at the Cannes Film Festival, Drafthouse Films picked up a crime thriller called ‘La French‘ that stars Jean Dujardin and directed by Cedric Jimenez. And get this – Drafthouse bought the U.S. distribution rights after the people at Drafthouse watched an eight minute reel of the film. Not only that, but Jimenez was signed to one of the top talent agencies in Hollywoood, which is WME.
Fantastic Fest 2018 Second Wave of Motion Pictures Announced!
Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.
The second wave of movies (1st wave can be seen here) – has been announced, including the US Premiere of the upcoming sequel ‘HALLOWEEN‘ from director David Gordon Green, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, who reprises her iconic role as Laurie Strode. In addition to that, Jeremy Saulnier‘s new film ‘HOLD THE DARK‘, will have its US Premiere at the festival. Also, Gaspar Noe’s newest movie ‘CLIMAX‘, will be shown too. The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.
Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I took my wife to ‘Jaws‘ on the Water last night presented by Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow. Before I even got invited to this I knew Drafthouse was the best theater chain in America when it comes to putting on the best presentation. Now after attending this event, I can confirm they are the best chain in the World.
American Assassin 4K UHD is Coming Soon!

‘American Assassin‘ is coming to 4K UHD and Blu-ray on December 5th, as well as Digital streaming on November 21st, which is just in time for Thanksgiving. The film stars Dylan O’Brien and Michael Keaton and is based on the fictional character and book about a first time CIA officer. There looks to be some worth-while extras, including a Q&A at the Alamo Drafthouse.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, it’s not Christmas, but rather movie-lover Christmas, because the best film festival of all time – FANTASTIC FEST is up on us. We have the first wave of programming to get you all excited and up in arms about attending this year. If you love films more than life itself, then FANTASTIC FEST is the festival for you. It has everything you could possible want, including horror, sci-fi, action, foreign, documentary, and even adult movies. I’m looking at you X-Rated Supermarket. A New Film Festival Will Open at ‘The Shining’ Hotel!

Good news, everyone. There is a new horror genre film festival looking to scare people next year, which will be called ‘The Overlook Film Festival‘ and will start on April 27th at Oregon’s Timberline Lodge, which was used (exterior shots) for Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’. Festival heads Michael Lerman and Landon Zakheim announced the event this Halloween and are planning on bringing classic films, new films, experimental events, and interactive fun to the Timberline Hotel. This first year will be a four day event and looks to be quite fun as it is being put on by a ton of people from the Alamo Drafthouse and ‘Fantastic Fest‘.

As a writer for Boomstick Comics, we are charged with going to see a lot of movies. I thought that this past year, I saw quite a few. Apparently, with the opening of the Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson, the movies I saw this past year weren’t all new. There were some that were classic programming at a new venue. What can I say? James Wallace knows that I like (“Sixteen Candles”, “Aliens”, “Big Trouble In Little China”, “True Grit”, and “Conan” just to name a few), but I did see a “Few Good Movies.”

‘Fantastic Fest’ Second Wave of Programming Looks Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!!

‘Fantastic Fest‘ has released their 2nd wave of programming with a huge roster that would work as an entire film fest on its own! Add it to the first wave programming seen here, and by Jupiter’s Cock, it’s going to be exciting!!! There will be advance screenings of ‘The Martian‘, ‘High-Rise‘, ‘Green Room‘, and ‘The Keeping Room‘.
“This is a big year for genre cinema. We’re exceptionally proud to honor incredible filmmakers and welcome back some of Fantastic Fest’s favorites,” said Tim League, Fantastic Fest and Alamo Drafthouse CEO/Founder.
Sticking true to Fantastic Fest’s penchant for chaos and explosive events, they welcome Itchy-O to Austin for the first time. Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX is gearing up for it’s 11th annual Fantastic Fest and as usual, they’ve released their first wave of the programming lineup for the event that has been hailed as one of the film festivals not to miss. The Drafthouse hosts not only viewings of genre-specific films but hosting writers, directors and casts of both the well-known and little-known varieties. FF takes place this year from September 24 – October 1 with a world premiere of ‘Bone Tomahawk‘ set for closing night with Kurt Russell, cast and crew to attend.

Since Dallas Comic Con has been acquired by Canadian parent company Fan Expo, the guest list for this event has expanded and grown to almost astronomical proportions. This May, it was no exception! They really pulled out all the stops and had almost all of Dallas Convention Center (with the exclusion of the F Exhibit Hall) open for business.

Back in 1981, Tippi Hedren, Noel Marshall, and Melanie Griffith made a movie called ‘Roar‘. Tippi and Noel were married in real life and Melanie was Tippi’s real-life daughter. While in Africa, Noel and Tippi raised awareness to stop poachers and hunters from killing the wildlife, particularly lions, tigers, and other wildcats. Soon enough the came across an abandoned ranch house that was taken over by a bunch of lions and tigers.

Fantastic Fest is one of the best film festivals in the U.S. not to mention the biggest. Everything there is awesome and amazing. Definitely the place to go if you love genre films as they feature the newest films from all categories featuring in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action from all over. Some of the best and most loved films have had their world premieres at the festival. Hoping to take its place next to huge hits like ‘There Will Be Blood‘, ‘Zombieland‘ and ‘Apocalypto‘ is ‘Tusk‘. The oddly named flick comes from the brilliant and irreverent mind of Kevin Smith.

South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin is known for being the cool place to be for music, movies, and tech every March. And it’s now starting to branch out into the art scene. For last 2 years Mondo Gallery, a collectible art boutique with a rabid fan base and part of the uber popular Alamo Drafthouse, has had gallery openings during SXSW with lines of buyers, stretching for blocks, waiting for hours, and in some cases, days.

Fantastic Fest is excited to announce Walt Disney Pictures’ Frankenweenie will have its world premiere on September 20 as the opening night film for the 2012 festival, happening September 20-27 in Austin, Texas at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. “Tim Burton stands as a titan of modern genre cinema. To world premiere the feature adaptation of his early beloved short is a huge honor for me personally and for the festival in general,” said Fantastic Fest Co-founder & Creative Director Tim League.

Damn this show was fucking hilarious. It was cancelled way too soon. Kinda like how ‘Arrested Development’ was cancelled too soon and how there has been talks for what seems like years and years of a film to come. That is slowly but surely happening, but at a recent ‘Party Down’ marathon at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, the entire cast and creator Rob Thomas told viewers some info on a possible ‘Party Down’ feature film.
