That’s not the case at all with ‘Fate of the Furious‘ or the 8th installment of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise, because there are no signs of this franchise slowing down, being remade, or losing any of its fun cast.

Fast & Furious: Civil War

After the death of Paul Walker and the 7th film there has been lots of speculation as to where the Fast & Furious franchise would go and the 8th movie definitively answers that question: Anywhere it damn well pleases. By the end of The Fate of the Furious, the loudest, most insane, and dumbest (in a good way) entry in the series, the stage is set for 100 more of these films and I’d sign up for 99 of them. While many franchises are working as hard as they can to justify spinoffs and team up films, the Fast & Furious put itself in a position to justify a number of spinoffs. As a film universe goes, Fast & Furious is behind only Marvel.

Gary Gray (‘Straight Outta Compton‘) directed the latest in the ‘Fast and the Furious‘ line of films Additional cast includes Jordana Brewster, Lucas Black, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Helen Mirren, and Kurt Russell. The film hits big screens on April 14, 2017.

Plus new cast members including one suave, charming dude that wasn’t at all shy about kicking a chick’s ass in ‘The Hateful Eight‘, that’s right – Kurt Russell. If you had to pick a leading female actor to play the villain in what’s largely been a male dominated franchise, like for the eighth installment of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise, who would it be? If it were me, I might look at the star of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘, Charlize Theron. She was a welcome addition to the George Miller film which has gained multiple Oscar nominees.

Film Review: ‘Furious 7’!

It’s difficult to talk about ‘Fast and Furious 7‘ or how it’s billed ‘Furious 7‘, without mentioning the tragic accident that cost actor Paul Walker his life back in November. This accident was not part of filming, but did drastically change the story line and halted production for quite a while. Walker had not finished filming his scenes, but you wouldn’t know it, as the filmmakers used a combination of amazing CGI and stunt doubles to add him through the entire film. It’s seamless and flawless in that aspect, and yes, there is a very moving tribute to him at the end of the film, which might cause you to choke back a few tears. I know I had too.
HBO’s ‘True Detective 2’ Will Star Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn!!

HBO has just announced some casting for the much anticipated second season of ‘True Detective‘. The new season will be eight episodes long and will shoot in Calfornia. Nic Pizzolatto will return as show runner and writer with Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) directing at least the first two episodes. So far, we know that there will be three police detectives and one big bad criminal who will navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a grisly murder, according to HBO.
‘Fast and Furious 7’ Will Feature a CGI Paul Walker!!!

After months of grieving the death of cast mate, Paul Walker, shooting has resumed on the set of ‘Fast & Furious 7‘. We’ve also learned how Walker will remain in the film. “They have hired four actors with bodies very similar to Paul’s physique and they will be used for movement and as a base,” one source close to production tells us. “Paul’s face and voice will be used on top using CGI.” The same source says this is the best option the producers and Universal Pictures have decided on, the studio feels confident fans of the series will feel satisfied with the result.

Have movie makers gone SO dry of original ideas that they continue to re-make perfectly good movies that aren’t even that old, yet? I take these re-makes personally since most of them are from the 80’s, which means I grew up on the films they destroy with a re-birth. Was Patrick Swayze really one of those actors that was so horrible, none of his work is safe from a re-make? Let us keep in mind that Swayze is now a verb, not just a noun. It takes an epic actor to make that kind of difference. Not only did they have to annihilate the Red Dawn I grew up with, there are still projects in the works that will destroy Dirty Dancing, Point Break and Ghost! I can add to that list of Swayze comfort movies that seem destined for destruction, Road House. It’s the sad truth.

So I guess Kurt Russell is now officially a part of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise. And why shouldn’t he be? He is an avid car enthusiast, likes to do a lot of his own car stunt work and is somewhat of a professional driver. Hell, you can watch the bonus footage or the actual film of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Death Proof‘ to see just how much Russell loves cars.
The ‘Fast and Furious’ Spoof, ‘Superfast’ Has Cast Its Leads!!!

Finally. I’m surprised it’s taken this long for there to be a spoof made from ‘The Fast and Furious‘. The writer-director team of Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg who have both brought us’Vampires Suck‘, (as if ‘Twilight‘ didn’t already show us that), and ‘Meet The Spartans‘. Personally, they ought to be grateful King Leonidas isn’t around to kick their arses all over the place for that one, but I digress. They’re sticking to the method they know best by filling the roles in ‘Superfast‘ with up-and-comers.
Lucas Black is Returning For ‘Fast and Furious 7’!!!

To all the fans yelling for more of the Sean Boswell character from ‘Fast & Furious 3: Tokyo Drift‘, the movie gods have heard your cry and answered. Lucas Black, who starred in Fast & Furious 3: Tokyo Drift, is returning to reprise his Sean Boswell role in Fast & Furious 7. Black, has signed a deal that calls for his character to become a regular in the series and he will be part of at least the next three installments of Universal Pictures’ most lucrative film franchise. Fast & Furious 7 will be released next July 11.We most recently saw Black flex his acting muscles as Pee Wee Reese in the Jackie Robinson film ‘42‘. Before that he featured in ‘Friday Night Lights‘, ‘Cold Mountain‘ and my favorite Lucas Black role as Jeep Hanson in ‘Legion‘.
Film Review: ‘Fast & Furious 6’!!

Universal’s biggest film franchise has hit number six with more than $1.5 billion in previous sales. And it looks like this new sequel/prequel will even push that amount further into another billion, despite its awful dialogue and numerous over-the-top, zany action sequences, which seems to make the audience laugh more often than cause suspense. That being said, this film does deliver what the audience has wanted since the first film. That is all of the original actors are back this time, which includes Michelle Rodriguez. I have no doubt this will score big at the box office. At least Universal seems to think so, as they have already greenlit part 7, which will be released next July and promises more stars and bigger action.

‘Fast and the Furious‘ fans hang on to your seats. Justin Lin is not coming back to direct the 7th installment of the blockbuster franchise. Universal wanted the new film out in the summer of 2014 and with post going on with F&F 6 right now and Lin directing the last four movies, he has bowed out due to “franchise exhaustion”.

It’s amazing and causes me to have headaches to write about more ‘Fast and Furious‘ movies. I don’t get the draw here at all besides Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson slumming it to be in these horrid films. However, there have been quite a few of these movies and there is at least going to be two more films. So, with that said, according to the good folks over at Aintitcool, this upcoming ‘Fast and Furious‘ film will be the 6th installment, with the 7th movie being filmed directly after. Kind of like how Peter Jackson filmed the ‘Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy.

It’s Super Bowl Day, meaning us fellow movie geeks are only interested in a couple of things. 1) Movie trailers. 2) The commercials. 3) Food. 4) The Puppy Bowl. Not necessarily in that order. I mean, the Puppy Bowl is really the only time out of the year where the entire world is at peace and everything is a bit brighter. But, this isn’t about the Puppy Bowl. Yes, The Rock was my favorite WWE performer in wrestling’s heyday at the turn of the millennium. But in 2003, Dwayne Johnson left WWE to become the thinking man’s Vin Diesel. He used his success as a WWE Superstar to springboard into movies, and that’s great. But CM Punk doesn’t want to springboard anywhere. CM Punk wouldn’t trade the WWE Championship for a featured role in the Fast and Furious franchise, and no one looks at CM Punk and thinks “Oh yeah, the strong man’s William H. Macy.”

When I first saw the line up of this concert I knew this was something I had to go to. It was one of those once in a life time concerts you had to go to if you even remotely considered yourself a metal fan. Granted, out of the four bands, I only knew 3 of them, Motorhead, Megadeath, and Lacuna Coil. I had no idea who or what a Volbeat was. For a month I thought the fourth band on the list’s name started with an “I”. It was two days before the show, that I even went to see who the fourth band on this truly epic line up was. But two legends of rock and a band that I adored, those I knew. Without Motorhead, there would be know Megadeath. As it was so eloquently put after the concert by a fellow fan, “without Motorhead, there would be no Metalica, without Metalica there would be no Dave Mustane and there for no Megadeath.”And Megadeath influenced their own slew of musicians. Needless to say I was tickled pink to be able to say “I will be there.” And be there I was!

“Fast Five, or as I like to call it, 2 Fast too Fiveious. If you haven’t been a fan of the more recent Fast & Furious movies then this may not be the movie for you, as it basically has the same feel as the previous film (Fast & Furious). HOWEVER, if you want to see several late model cars ripping up streets and burning more fuel than you could eventually get from Jurassic Park, then believe me when I say that this is the film for you!

Lionsgate Releases ‘Acts of Violence’ To Home Video!

Lionsgate is prepping the action-packed thriller ‘Acts of Violence‘ for distribution onto Blu-ray, Digital HD, and DVD available on March 27. The high-octane flick stars Bruce Willis (‘Die Hard‘ franchise), Ashton Holmes (‘A History of Violence‘), Shawn Ashmore (‘X-Men 2‘, and TV’s ‘The Following‘), and Cole Hauser (‘2 Fast 2 Furious‘). Dr. Vin Diesel or How I learned to Stop Caring and Love the Ride!

I saw The Fast and The Furious when I was 14 or 15. As someone who grew up watching Point Break on VHS and other 80s/90s action movies it was right in my wheel house. I have never been a car guy but I still remember that summer talking with my friends about Honda Civics, Nos, and spoilers that we’d all be getting when we turned 16. The first movie is a step by step remake of Point Break, right down to letting the “bad guy” go at the end with “I owe you a 10 second car” instead of “Vaya Con Dios.” It stared two relatively unknowns in Paul Walker and Vin Diesel who will never be confused with Daniel Day Lewis but were born to play these parts. Ultimately was a fun summer popcorn movie that no one thought they’d hear from again, let alone turn into an almost 4 billion dollar franchise.
Film Review: ‘The Meg’!
If you watched the trailer for The Meg in which a 90-foot shark appears to stalk a wedding party because the bride’s tiny dog jumped in for a swim while ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ blares over the speakers and hated it, then The Meg is not for you. The Meg is continuing a growing trend of low-tier Hollywood movies knowing exactly what they are. It is big, loud, preposterous, silly, funny, and so over the top, it hurts. It leans into these descriptors so hard that I found myself sort of admiring the fact that everyone involved was like, “We’re gonna see how ridiculous we can make this and the audience will either smile or their eyes will roll out of their head.” I found myself chuckling at the absurdity of it all, but not in a malicious way. I enjoyed the movie but will never see it again.
The Hope of ‘Star Wars’!
Star Wars feels like the one franchise that everyone agrees on that one fundamental thing: We want it to be good and we are hopeful it will be. I can’t think of a film franchise that offers so much hope with every installment. I’m not talking about what happens on screen either, that is for someone else to write. I’m just discussing the general public and their anticipation for each entry.
Baby Driver is Coming to 4K UHD and Blu-ray!

Perhaps the best film of the year BABY DRIVER is coming to 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and Digital HD, which I couldn’t be more excited for. On September 12th, you’ll be able to watch the film on any digital platform. On October 10th, the 4K UHD and Blu-ray will be available with a ton of bonus features. I’m super excited about this release and I hope it wins an OSCAR. Details below.

Going in Style, a remake of the 1979 film of the same name, struts out of the Warner Brothers’ catalog to fill theaters with laughter once again. Joe (Michael Caine, formerly played by George Burns), Willie (Morgan Freeman, formerly Lee Strasberg), and Albert (Alan Arkin, formerly Art Carney) mix it up to form a hilariously bad trio bent on robbing the establishments that robbed them of their pension. For thirty plus years they worked for Wechsler Steel Company who suddenly relocates out of the country and dissolves their pension fund. Faced with foreclosure, a need for a kidney transplant, and the knowledge that they were robbed to pay their former employer’s utility bills drive Joe, Willie, and Al to rob WSB bank.
Vin Diesel is Remaking Miami Vice!

I guess since NBC is a fast sinking ship down into the ocean, it has to reboot its own vintage TV shows. This time, it’s with Miami Vice, which was a hit action-crime television series in the 1980s that spawned a huge fandom, music, and fashion. In 2006, director Michael Mann remade Miami Vice on the big screen with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. To add insult to injury, Vin Diesel and Chris Morgan are producing this reboot, both of which have been involved in all of the Fast and Furious films.

Film Review: ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’!

Has it really been 15 years since we last saw Vin Diesel as Xander Cage, jumping off mountains and beating up the bad guys across the globe? Why yes it has. Only a few years later, we got a ‘xXx‘ sequel with Ice Cube in the spotlight, rather than Vin Diesel. It was stated in the sequel that Vin Diesel’s character was killed off, leaving Ice Cube to pick up the pieces and become the action star in the early 2000s. Now, it’s 2017 and Vin Diesel makes $1 billion dollar ‘Fast and Furious’ movies, so Hollywood finally gave the greenlight to another ‘xXx‘ film that has Diesel returning as Xander Cage, despite the fact that he’s already dead. These things don’t matter with this third installment, titled ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage‘.

Remember what it was like to dream? I’m not referring to our current dreams of better jobs, or more money, or a new car, but dreaming without restriction? As a kid, I dreamed several times of experiencing that bicycle flight in front of the moon with E.T. at the helm. I dreamed of discovering pirate gold and sneaking a kiss from my older brother’s girl like Mikey. I sat in spaceships and fighter jets made of cardboard boxes. I gave life and personality to a slew of GI Joe’s, even little green army men with no functional limbs. I dreamed. There was no lack of depth to those dreams. No impending Trump administration. No knowledge that the guns used for pretend are replicates of actual war machines taking lives every single day. My simple imagination was rampant without knowing otherwise, but I grew up.

Sweet suburban couple, Jeff and Karen Gaffney (Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher), is immediately fascinated. Can you blame them? The Gaffneys’ lives are quite mundane despite the fact that their children are away at camp. The Joneses are chic, publicly affectionate, and suspiciously nice. So here’s the new trailer for ‘Star Trek Beyond‘ from director Justin Lin. Trekkies appear to have mixed thoughts on the new trailer. The year 2015 marks the 24th ‘James Bond‘ film in the 007 franchise. It also marks the most expensive Bond film to date, which is also in the top two most expensive films ever made with a budget of over $300 million. Even in addition to that, this new 007 movie, titled ‘Spectre‘ is the longest running Bond film with a runtime of 148 minutes. With the billion dollar success and critical acclaim from ‘Skyfall‘ a couple of years ago, the studio and its executives thought it would be a good idea to go bigger and “better” on everything. That’s not always a good thing, as is the case with ‘Spectre‘, which is bloated and disappointing.

Lin gave us the new title for the third film in the rebooted franchise. ‘Star Trek Beyond‘. I wonder if the incredibly retro looking patch is going to win over any of the haters that torched the last film, in particular, ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ because of how much it felt different to the series it’s based on among other reasons.

There have been three ‘Terminator‘ movies since ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day‘, all of which were made by people other than James Cameron. How did they turn out? CinemaCon in Las Vegas has shown Universal rolling out release dates for highly anticipated sequels. By far, the most heartbreaking segment came when actor Vin Diesel took the stage to share the studio’s plans for ‘Furious 8‘ to be released April 14, 2017. Diesel reminisced from two years ago, when he took the same stage with Paul Walker, his costar who died as result of a car crash in 2013, when they announced the plan to move forward on the seventh film in their rocket hot ‘Fast and Furious‘ series.

Director Justin Lin (‘Fast and the Furious’) has taken the con after Roberto Orci left the project. Orci was a writer for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness‘ before he was tapped to direct the third installment. The director isn’t the only change in the project from the last film as the writing team that will be putting pen to paper is undergoing some staff re-vamps, too.

In order to run from his enemies, Quill forges an unlikely and uneasy truce with Rocket, a gun-crazy raccoon; Groot, a tree-like strongman with low verbal skills, a deadly assassin named Gamora and Drax who is focused mainly on revenge. Once the true power of the orb is discovered, the unlikely band of heroes comes together in a final battle that will decide the fate of the whole galaxy.
Janet’s Film Review: ‘Nightcrawler’!!

Nightcrawler opens with the moonshining down on the city of angels, we see a thief, Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) in action. He is cutting away chain-linked fence when a security guard spots him. A bright light shines on the sunken face and wiry form of Bloom. (According to IMDB, Jake Gyllenhaal lost 20 lbs. for the role.) The rent-a-cop asks for ID, but Bloom repeatedly diverts his requests with distracting comments and questions. Bloom is a fast-talker. Cut to bargaining with a scrap metal yard foreman in an attempt to sell the copper wire and chain-linked fence Bloom had collected. The foreman doesn’t waive on his offer and resolve, but Bloom rapidly counters like a string of firecrackers pushing for better pay. The foreman refuses to give Bloom a penny more than his offer. What does Bloom do in response to this let down? He asks for a job. As plainly as he can, the foreman assures Bloom that he would never hire a thief. Scraping to make ends meet and living in squalor, Bloom is desperate for a fast track to success.

Few films can weave a storyline around so many actors and cities and still be a huge draw at the box office, I’m giving you the news about one of them today. The series I’m talking about are the Jason Bourne films, starring Matt Damon. We started with ‘The Bourne Identity‘ in 2002, then ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ in 2004, followed by ‘The Bourne Ultimatum‘ in 2007. In 2012, Damon stood aside and cheered Jeremy Renner on as he made the character of Aaron Cross, uniquely his own, with ‘The Bourne Legacy‘. Renner brings to life another character from the expansive world that writer Robert Ludlum has created that both characters, and a score of others live in.

Those of us watching comic book news, or DC movie news in particular, already know who Gal Gadot is. If you’ve been a fan of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise you knew who she was before I did. I wasn’t a huge fan of those films, but once I found out she had been cast as Wonder Woman in the ‘Batman v Superman‘ film coming from Zack Snyder I hit www.imdb.com and discovered that I had seen her in the ‘Fast and Furious‘ films, but she hadn’t really made much of an impression on Hollywood other than that.

Diesel mentioned that a certain actor was going to join the cast on ‘The Last Witch Hunter‘. Lionsgate has confirmed that Michael Caine has officially joined the Breck Eisner (‘The Crazies‘, ‘The Sahara‘) directed ‘The Last Witch Hunter’.
Film Review: ‘Need For Speed’!!

I was trying to think of a movie that was based on a video game that was truly amazing. I couldn’t do it. I went through all of them, and while I enjoyed some of the attempts, nothing really stood out as being unforgettable or even that great. Sure, you have your ‘Resident Evil‘ movies and your ‘Tomb Raider‘ films, but ultimately those are still forgettable and don’t hold up all that well, although they have made a killing at the box office.

After being pitched the idea last year all is in place for him to sign onto ‘Susan Cooper‘ and costar with resident funny girl Melissa McCarthy. The feature film was written and will be directed by Paul Feig, I remember him clearly as Stanley from 1990’s campy and ridiculous ‘Ski Patrol‘.

Gerard Butler Joins ‘Point Break’ Remake!!

It pains me every time I hear of an existing movie being bastardized with a revamp. The newest title to head to the remake guillotine is 1991’s ‘Point Break‘. I will never be a fan of twisting a fantastic movie from my childhood into drivel, reflecting the current time frame. ‘Point Break‘ adds salt to the remake wound, but also and more importantly, the Patrick Swayze wound. It’s like Hollywood is telling us anything Swayze did was crap. It’s a shorter list to name the movies the remake fairies DON’T have their meat hooks into.

So we have Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill returning as Superman for the ‘Man of Steel‘ sequel called ‘Batman vs. Superman‘. And now they have their Wonder Woman, who I guess will also be a big part of the story. And Wonder Woman will be played by Gal Gadot. Gadot hasn’t done much, but she is a main player in a few of the ‘Fast and Furious‘ films where she plays Gisele.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is leading the new action film from MGM, called Seal Team 666. I have to admit, this book is on my list of must-reads. It’s going to get bumped up to the list of must-read before seeing the movie, now. Johnson has proven himself to be a bankable asset for just about any movie he’s taken on. He hit fans everywhere with a jab by co-starring in the addicting Fast and Furious franchise. He intends to double that jab with Fast and Furious 7, then plans to hit us with a TKO with Hercules. After the dust settles from the 10 count, he will already be in operation mode for Seal Team 666.
Film Review: ‘Rush’!!

It’s no doubt that Ron Howard makes great films. His movies have won numerous awards and have starred the biggest names in the business at one point or another. That being said, I would go on to say that Howard’s films tend to be forgettable after the first year or so and begin to collect dust in people’s movie collections. There are a few exceptions with ‘Apollo 13‘, ‘Willow‘, and ‘Parenthood‘, but the rest of his resume tends to be forgotten and not watched as much as people claimed when it first came out. Unfortunately, this is the case with his new movie, ‘Rush‘. People will love it at first, but nobody will mention it next year.

If two films weren’t enough, there will be a third movie to laugh at. That’s right, ‘The Expendables 3‘ has a release date of August 15, 2014, which Lionsgate is proud to get behind. And why shouldn’t they be proud, the first two made over $575 million worldwide, which is the biggest franchise for Millennium Films. This time around, Patrick Hughes will be in the director’s chair, which his only feature credit is for a movie called ‘Red Hill‘, so she has his work cut out for him.

This is the brand new trailer for ‘The Wolverine‘ starring Hugh Jackman. This trailer should be in front of most prints of ‘Fast and Furious 6‘ this weekend, so be sure to look out for that. The film will be in 3D and is directed by James Mangold (‘Copland‘, ‘3:10 To Yuma‘). This is also a prequel to the whole X-Men series and will focus a bit on Logan’s time in Japan, which is a fan favorite in the comics. In this trailer, we get a big look at that side of the story. The film opens July 26th and I hope it’s a bit better than the previous film.

Fox has decided that it’s time to reboot ‘Hitman‘, which is a live action adaptation based on the popular video game from Square Enix. The original ‘Hitman‘ film was released in 2007 and starred Timothy Olyphant as Agent 47. However now, Fox has cast Paul Walker as the killer agent. It’s as if Fox wants this film to fail.

A film and story like ‘Battle Royale’ should not be made for network television. Hell, it shouldn’t even be remade. It’s a perfect film as it is. And if these assholes decide to remake it, give the money and talent it deserves. Not some hack at CW.

The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books. ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy. Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’. Can’t wait. Below is the official press release. Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Here’s yet another Tom and Jerry release from Warner Bros. that makes me giddy with nostalgic joy. This is ‘Tom and Jerry: In The Dog House’ which has twenty two cartoon shorts featuring the cat and mouse duo along with their sometimes pal Spike the dog. I’m definitely a fan of Tom and Jerry as I grew up watching them constantly. They don’t get old or tiresome. They’re still good for laughs and they do not show their years. It’s great to have these on DVD.

National Geographic Channel has teamed with Tony and Ridley Scott to produce a two-hour documentary based on ‘Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever’ by Bill O’ Reilly. The documentary, set to begin production in the spring for an early 2013 premiere globally on the National Geographic Channel, will keep the fast pace of the book, described as a historical thriller with a John Grisham-style narrative about the 1865 murder of President Abraham Lincoln and the furious manhunt for his killer.
