Indonesian film The Raid won the Midnight Madness audience’s choice at the Toronto Film Festival this year. Naturally, this means America has gotten a hold of it.

The Raid chronicles the adventures of a SWAT team trapped by a drug lord and his martial-arts-trained warrior team, as well as a personal militia. Needless to say, the movie is non-stop action as the SWATs attempt to head for the exit. Directed and written by Gareth Evans (Merantau), the film did extremely well at the Cannes Film Festival as well as Toronto.

XYZ Films, the producer for the original film, will produce this version as well. Evans will executive produce, but not direct or write. No word yet on cast or crew. More as this develops.

Again, Hollywood proves that they have no original ideas. However, this looks like it could be a really fun film. This reporter is up for it.
