Jenna Elfman usually does comedies, but she’s trying her hand with drama in the coming months. She will be joining the cast of DirecTV’s Damages, along with Ryan Phillipe. The main cast is led by Glenn Close (The Big Chill) and Rose Byrne (X-Men: First Class).

Elfman’s character is an investment bank employee having some issues with her company. When she approaches the founder of a website attempting to reveal government transparency (played by Phillipe), it sets the ball rolling for the case that will pit Patty Hewes (Close) and Ellen Parsons (Byrne) against each other.

Elfman was last seen in Friends with Benefits, which was sort of a flop. However, she is a talented actress and surrounded by serious starpower in Damages.

This is Damages‘ fifth and final season, so we all know it’s going to be a showdown. Close and Byrne have good chemistry, and the foundation is laid. Here’s to an explosive climax.
