As time goes by the albums that have already obtained classic status continue to become greater classics, nay, timeless. Of course, there is also room for more recent albums of late to obtain such status, but some become classics the day of their release, such as The Black Keys’ debut LP “The Big Come Up.”

I thought I take a moment to recognize a really great record from the last ten years into a new segment for Classic Waxxx. It was also an opportune moment to word play on “Black Friday” as well as celebrate the band’s first release, as they ready their seventh and latest LP “El Camino,” which is sure to be a great addition to the rest of their catalog. As long as I can remember Thanksgiving has been my favorite holiday. There really is no holiday on the calendar that centers around food and family, and it’s the one day of the year where it is ok to stuff yourself into a food coma. Thanksgiving is also a favorite holiday for many, but many love the holiday because of the shopping day after known as ‘Black Friday.’

The older I get the less inclined I feel to venture out into the crazy public and spend money the day after Thanksgiving, especially since I feelcompletely lethargic after all that turkey and stuffing. But thanks to Record Store Day Black Friday, I again have an excuse to spend some cash on music and perhaps walk off some of those calories. Read the rest of this entry »

I know there are several people out there like me who count down the days for new Ryan Adams music. Thankfully, the wait is over as Adams’ latest LP, “Ashes & Fire” is now on the streets.

“Ashes & Fire” is Adams’ first record of new material after a lengthy (according to Adams) two year hiatus, and one that is much more mellow that some of his previous solo efforts. That doesn’t go without saying that the material is second class or fluff, but perhaps the softer approach is Adams easing back into things after taking some time away from music. The A-Side track features “Johnny B. Goode,” a blistering live performance captured to tape during The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1st show on May 30, 1970 at the Berkeley Community Theatre and included on the album Hendrix In The West. The B-Side features a previously unreleased recording of “Purple Haze” recorded on October 10, 1968 during The Experience’s performance at San Francisco’s famed Winterland Ballroom and is exclusive to this limited edition vinyl single.

On 22 November, Warner Brothers / Reprise will release Clapton Blues, an Eric Clapton blues box set. The five vinyl LP collection will include the three albums From The Cradle, Riding With The King and Me and Mr. Johnson along with an exclusive lithograph of the cover image photo of Eric. This edition will be priced at $124.98 (US). Additionally, a limited edition version pressed on blue vinyl will be available only from EC’s official website, ericclapton.com.

One of my top two favorite musicians is Tom Waits.  He is definitely the coolest guy on the planet.  His last album was ‘Orphans: Brawlers, Ballers, and Bastards’ with a live concert album called ‘Glitter and Doom’ from his Glitter and Doom tour.  Well he has been hard at work on his new album titled ‘Bad As Me’.  I seriously cannot wait for this album to release, which will be October 25th.  So not to much longer.  Actually you can purchase the single ‘Bad As Me’ for download right now from your favorite digital retailer.
